Band Maid playing live it's like dusting a shiny object. You get the raw view of what the object is. Sharp, real, attractive. With all the faults and little details that separate reality from its more polished but more attenuated version (its recordings). I can't remember many bands in rock music history that I can say the same about.
I just watched a neat video of her getting a tour of the Zemaitis shop and getting to do a little of each step of how they build their guitars. They loved having her there and it was clear that she was having a blast.
You’re the first person I’ve heard mention Miku being flat at that part. Finally! Haha. It is the one part of the whole song that I never forget because it’s so obvious. Bless Miku’s soul. Hahaha.
The tiny "flaws" and "imperfections" are (paradoxically) what make live performances so good. You know it's real. With enough production, almost anyone can be made to sound good in a studio. But this is raw and real and hits just right. I really love how Saiki digs into that rasp/growl. Soooo good.
Yes, and they are obviously difficult. No walking around the stage and making faces at each other during these songs. MISA even said something like she will not drink as much because she could screw up, unheard of :D
Yeah, Kanami usually seems to be doing something awesome in the background. And if she's not it's probably because Misa or Akane is doing the cool part. It's always fun to discover the details they put in.
warning has to be their best song just in general, not just on unseen world. Its strung together so perfectly and while i love every bandmaid song, warning just feels like a step above everything else

Band-Maid are great live, no quantizations, no autotune, just them playing their hearts out. It sounds just great. Can't wait to hear them play in front of thousands of fans.
Interesting to compare this to the live broadcast it was taken from. Some of Saiki's high notes I thought weren't _exactly_ on pitch for this and a few of the other early songs in the concert (this track opened), and that has been cleaned up. No criticism - it can depend on so many factors, and I've heard even the great Floor Jansen, live, take a few songs to get her pitch sorted exactly. Miku struggled a bit in her song live and sounded like she was running out of breath a bit, but that's been cleaned up too. (I noticed on their latest live show that Miku did her song _before_ her long speech and shouting, rather than straight after in this concert, and she was much more solid.) The MV has clearly used the live cameras, but I think the editor has selected the cameras a bit differently in places. The live camerawork and editing was great and well-practised, but I think it's picking up the action more precisely on the video. Which is good. This mix is so much better than the studio recording - as you said, everything is much clearer, and Miku and Kanami can be heard better. I like the raw edge to the sound - I agree, it suits them better and conveys the energy of their playing really well.
The band's discography is getting so large that many casual fans have no idea just how much quality work these ladies have accomplished in a very short period of time. They are a music generating force of nature raised with a do or die work ethic. Further they represent what should be far more than what is and as such l find a good measure of hope and optimism even in their songs that cannot be considered very optimistic. That is their gift. Sacramento loves Band-Maid. BTW the real difference between this and their first MV is Miku actually playing. She has been competently strumming the chords to songs and performing on the videos but she has yet to play any instrument on any prerecorded CD. Yet. That will change with the very next release.
@@_JimS She is certainly an inspiration on many levels. I am a rather mediocre guitarist. Small pigeon made me want to throw my guitar away and pick it back up at the same time. Amazing woman.

You make a great point about "raw" in live performances. Rick Beato had a great video about "The Era of Perfect Music" where every tiny "imperfection" can be corrected with computer technology which unfortunately gives us bland and sterile sounding music. Back in the old days you took the best takes and even small mistakes were often a part of the recording but no one cared because the music was great. Music without emotion is not music and when you play with emotion the sound is raw. Probably one of the best examples is Janis Joplin live at Monterey singing "Ball and Chain". She was re-living the emotion of a painful relationship on that stage for an epic performance. As for Band-Maid, I hope to have a chance to see them live. They are phenomenal.
I've been trying to get Rick Beato to notice Band Maid for a year. They are exactly the kind of high quality self composing live band he likes. No luck yet. Welcome any ideas anyone has.

BAND-MAID doesn't just deliver what you expected from the album, they give you even more... I often listen to both the studio versions of the songs then hear the live version of songs and wonder why they they toned things down in the studio version lol. hmm ... okay... unpopular opinion, but I saw that one when it was performed. It was the absolutely first song of the okyuji and they all had trouble with the rhythm and both saiki and Miku had pitch problems. It got *a lot* better by the time they played "Black Hole", but they were not at the top of their game on "Warning". So I'm quite certain that this clip needed quite a bit of work in post ... including some slight autotune.

We can all just continue to await the day they come back to our area of the world and play shows again. They are on the top of my list of bands I have to see at the first opportunity. I must be a part of that crowd.
I love how expressive Saiki is with her stage movements and hand gestures. She adds so much to her live performances, just as the rest of the band do also. They scammed the right girl to be center stage. :)
They played all songs from Unseen World in the May live stream except Giovanni (which they did play in Feb.). I was glad to see them show that much confidence in the new material.
Differences in the arrangement are a big reason I go to live shows, especially at a small venue. You're very much there /with/ the band, having this experience together, so even when they (or you, if you're the one playing) fuck up, you all just laugh about it and go on. And that is so much fun.
I never understood why people want a replica of the studio versions. If they wanted everything note for note perfect then we also wouldn't get these live versions of the songs that are better than the studio version warts and all. If you want the studio version, just listen to your cds then...
That is why we want to hear it live...because it is not perfect! Everytime they play it live, it is a little different. I have heard famouse bands in my life and some of them played only loud, I could hardly recognize the song. Bandmaid is always absolute cristal clear. The Queens of Rock.

Great as always👍 I think you're the first to mention Miku's fake tone. You're right of course but I always hope that Akane's never ending drumroll distracts from that😁. I would like to mention something else for everyone to consider. Even if they rehearsed many times before, this was still a single concert. What I mean is... in the last 50 years nearly all live records have been recorded at the end of tours. And of course there is a good reason for that.... With that in mind, the 33 songs are very well done. A fantastic live dvd, the many weeks of waiting were worth it☺
Miku did fall a little flat on those backing vocals, but like you said, it wasn't that bad. Her range is somewhat limited anyway. I felt really bad for her when she messed up the last notes in Sayonakidori in each of the last two online concerts. I think they need to take it easy on her with the high notes for the next album. LOL She had the flying V before she got the flappy pigeon. I think she only uses it for certain songs.
You may be right about Trill live but the MV was the first song I heard of Band-Maid and it will always have a special place in my heart, if you know what I mean.
i am one of the many many Madiacs that love hearing them live..slight imperfections for what they are playing is more than fine for the difference in energy they put out. im with you if i listen to a live or see a band live i dont expect a studio recorded like performance i want a raw energetic experience. having herd during the last online this whole album minus giovani(wich they played in the previous show) im amazed at how awesome they can perform them one after another...i beleive it was Honkai during the fast long vocal point you could hear Saiki struggle towards the end..that said its a long fast vocal section and seeing her pull it off seemingly in one breath live was something else
Warning! is already a Top 5 song from them for me but EVERY TIME I listen to it inches higher. I think you're right about this being one their best if not THE BEST chorus from them... I'm still kinda partial to Secret My Lips for that but I digress. Its so difficult to call out who is better on this song because, honestly they ALL shine very bright at specific points in the song, really incredible how they do that without playing over each other and competing for the attention (in the song). I think you like the live version of Thrill more for the same reason I do. It has a much more FULL sound to it and I think a large reason for that is Miku's playing on the live version. At the time it was originally recorded Miku didn't even really know how to play yet. Still with her Rickenbacker (her first guitar) that she was learning on. With her much better skill now she is playing a really thick rhythm that really compliments Kanami's lead... but, yeah, they were definitely a bit flat (not tone wise) for it vs. Warning!.
the one thing im afraid of when Band-Maid can tour again is them booking venues to small and underestimating the amount of their fans that will attend and want to be at all shows near them
I am glad Saiki and Miku don't use cheats like Autotune during their live performances. They have great voices and a little slip now and then doesn't change that.
This concert definitely started out a little off. It got better after the first couple songs though. For these last 4 or so shows being livestream shows, I still think they turned out pretty good. And there was definitely some post production magic slapped on this, and the others as well. It was the first thing I noticed, how much cleaner things sounded with the earlier songs from this show. It definitely sounded even more raw in concert. I'm still hoping to see them at a proper concert one day. I need these ladies in my life, lol.
Sometimes I wonder, if they can make live videos of their songs, and perform at this level on stage ...Why do they even make studio records. This version is SO much better than the studio version. Just sayin: .........
Surprise, MISA is sometimes playing a completely different song than the rest of the band xD As usual. This was the first song of the setlist. Especially Miku was a little wonky from the start, but you can clearly see in the first 3-4 songs that they are dialing it in, and then it clicks and stays so for the rest of the show. It must be really weird to have several months between shows.
Makes you wonder why they bother making film clips at all. They are so good live anyway. The thing is that the person you would notice most iff she did make a mistake is Saiki and she never makes any. She is the Su Metal of BAND-MAID.
Oh yeah there is a little clean up in post for these live videos. Mostly just enough to barely touch up some vocal flatness or stretching. You can definitely tell if you have the original recording. But I'm with you live raw Band-Maid is just as good if not better.
There were a lot of issues with the vocals in this concert esp. in the beginning. Miku would probably have to work quite a bit on breath control as she sounded out of breath and as a result flat multiple times. These official releases have the vocals edited significantly compared to the concert. That said, it was still great as the instrumentations were mostly on point and that’s always been the biggest draw of BM for me. Or it might be just that my bar for good vocals are just too high. At this point, I’m at the “just ok” stage considering Saiki’s improvements in the recent years. Her confidence and tendency to add more dynamics have shown a massive increase with Conqueror and especially Unseen World. I can finally admit with confidence that the vocals aren’t just fitting in/tagging along but actually adding something crucial to their music.
Agree, at the beginning Kanami was a bit too low in the mix, but they fixed it later on, glad the CD was more balanced than the first part of the show.

Miku for some reason just draws me in every time I see them perform lately… I’ll call her my Bias and Misa is the Wrecker 🤟🏻
I prefer to think of any imperfections as impromptu variations
We can all just continue to await the day they come back to our area of the world and play shows again. They are on the top of my list of bands I have to see at the first opportunity. I must be a part of that crowd.
Agree for raw!
Black Hole live is crazy! ...
Just saw them live in San Francisco (a great fan-cam-whole-concert) from end of 2018... they are awesome.
Thanks again for a great reaction and comments, spreading the Band-Maid gospel to the world.
MISA MISA MISA! right there with ya nothing beats that raw LESS processed sound miss the vocal effects on this version tho
Especially when the whole band is absolutely on point.
🥃🥃🥃🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
@@curtisrrobles7885 Curtis rather than being on point it looks like you are at the point of no return. How many drinks have you had it's not 3 now is it.
@@stephenchigwidden7504 just a few 😉
I really, really want them to start dropping live albums. Their sound is so much better live when the instruments are separated.
Have you listened to their "Conqueror" album yet? Would love to see you do a full listen of it!
A fantastic live dvd, the many weeks of waiting were worth it☺
You make an excellent point about they haven't had much chance to practice this
Miku did fall a little flat on those backing vocals, but like you said, it wasn't that bad. Her range is somewhat limited anyway. I felt really bad for her when she messed up the last notes in Sayonakidori in each of the last two online concerts. I think they need to take it easy on her with the high notes for the next album. LOL
She had the flying V before she got the flappy pigeon. I think she only uses it for certain songs.
You may be right about Trill live but the MV was the first song I heard of Band-Maid and it will always have a special place in my heart, if you know what I mean.
I love RAW tooooooo..they nailed okyu-ji all the time🥰 oh I can't wait to see them live once again🕊️
i am one of the many many Madiacs that love hearing them live..slight imperfections for what they are playing is more than fine for the difference in energy they put out. im with you if i listen to a live or see a band live i dont expect a studio recorded like performance i want a raw energetic experience. having herd during the last online this whole album minus giovani(wich they played in the previous show) im amazed at how awesome they can perform them one after another...i beleive it was Honkai during the fast long vocal point you could hear Saiki struggle towards the end..that said its a long fast vocal section and seeing her pull it off seemingly in one breath live was something else
My fave off album is Manners. In fact, I'd put it in my top 10 BM songs. Prefer this version to the album version
No complaints from me either, this is a great performance!
Nobody is gonna be perfect 100% of the time!
Absolutely we like it RAW! It's like a sushi which you'll never eat a cooked sushi! Thanx Mr. Champ
Warning! is already a Top 5 song from them for me but EVERY TIME I listen to it inches higher.
Warning!.
Good point about "Feeling" the raw energy...
I agree, live and raw is best. Does Akana ever quit smiling? Great reaction
the one thing im afraid of when Band-Maid can tour again is them booking venues to small and underestimating the amount of their fans that will attend and want to be at all shows near them
You have to watch the music video to Warning!
I always think of the mistakes as impromptu variations.:)
I am glad Saiki and Miku don't use cheats like Autotune during their live performances. They have great voices and a little slip now and then doesn't change that.
This concert is available on DVD and bluray witch I have a copy and in the set list they play black hole and it’s awesome
This song just screams "big back lit curtain drop set opener"
Man you need to react to Lovebites (Break the Wall - Live) this is Trashmetal. Midori has an insane guitar solo.
Best way to listen, is Live....
ooh baby I like it raw
This concert definitely started out a little off. It got better after the first couple songs though. For these last 4 or so shows being livestream shows, I still think they turned out pretty good. And there was definitely some post production magic slapped on this, and the others as well. It was the first thing I noticed, how much cleaner things sounded with the earlier songs from this show. It definitely sounded even more raw in concert. I'm still hoping to see them at a proper concert one day. I need these ladies in my life, lol.
I agree!
This Is .......... BAND MAID !!!
I noticed this also, saiki nailing it kanami killing it
Sometimes I wonder, if they can make live videos of their songs, and perform at this level on stage ...Why do they even make studio records.
I'm with you man. I also prefer music live & raw.
Makes you wonder why they bother making film clips at all. They are so good live anyway. The thing is that the person you would notice most iff she did make a mistake is Saiki and she never makes any. She is the Su Metal of BAND-MAID.
MISA!!! MISA!!! MISA!!! 🥃🥃🥃
Oh yeah there is a little clean up in post for these live videos. Mostly just enough to barely touch up some vocal flatness or stretching. You can definitely tell if you have the original recording. But I'm with you live raw Band-Maid is just as good if not better.
i agree they didnt seem to thrilled about it
if you are looking for more j-rock try mardelas with song apocalypse.fate gear-megabullets and aldious-we are.for more nemophila-raitai
Rush eventually retired "Working Man" from their live set lists. It's not a crime to move on, as your catalog expands.
The actual live was even more raw than this. Some of the adjustments they made in post are very welcome, others I'm not so sure were necessary.
Agree, at the beginning Kanami was a bit too low in the mix, but they fixed it later on, glad the CD was more balanced than the first part of the show.
Why automatic subtitles are not active?
your reaction of band maid live version are incomplete without reacting to their fancam version 😁
like this one ruclips.net/video/_vFuQ2xQkQ4/видео.html (intro + choose me) or this one ruclips.net/video/RxmRiWHZ3TI/видео.html (take me higher - freedom - moratorium)
Honestly surprised you calling warning the best song on the album, not because it isn’t (it very much is in my opinion :)) but I just assumed some of the other ones was more your favorites. Warning though is my new Blooming as far as favorite; but that entire album is just amazing!
Rawness is what's missing in today's music. Everything goes thru quantization nowadays and it sucks. I wanna hear the musicians not the computer version of them
Can't Band Maid!!!
Do these beauties write a bad song?
Yeah, but not a lot
I would say no! If so, I have yet to hear it!
I haven't heard a bad song yet. 110+ so far
One of the reasons that I'm not a fan of pop music is it's too polished and perfect. It's like a great car, if it's perfect, it's boring.
