মাথায় আঘাত পেলে অবশ্যই যত দ্রুত সম্ভব রোগীকে হাসপাতালে নিতে হবে। এমনকি বাইরে থেকে রোগীকে দেখতে স্বাভাবিক মনে হলেও তাঁকে দ্রুত হাসপাতালে নিন। রোগীর আঘাতের সম্পূর্ণ ইতিহাস জেনে, শারীরিক পরীক্ষা করে চিকিৎসক আঘাত ও ক্ষতির মাত্রা নির্ণয়ের জন্য মস্তিষ্কের সিটি স্ক্যান করতে পারেন।
মাথায় আঘাতের পর রোগীর অজ্ঞান হয়ে যাওয়া, বমি হওয়া, নাক দিয়ে রক্ত বা পানি আসা, কান দিয়ে রক্ত বা পানি আসা ইত্যাদি হলো গুরুতর আঘাতের লক্ষণ।

Knowing the patient's full history of the injury, the doctor can perform a CT scan of the brain to determine the extent of the injury and damage.
