Hello, This is also my favorite Seiko Digital Watch.. I use a VARTA V15H rechargable battery.(NiMH 1.2 V 15 mAh) This works great in this watch! It also has the exact size and it charges on the solar panel...
I picked up a extremely cheap ebay a939 thanks to you, replaced battery/crystal and cleaned out pushers and its as good as new, many many thanks for your videos!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good review Tiberiu! A156 is my favourite Seiko model. I’ve never thought about how to remove the speaker grille and always just cleaned around it using small brushes. Thanks for the info!
I got nearly the same. I have the Seiko sports 100 a156 5040. My question is how do you change on your clock the time system from am/pm( used in the USA, Australia...) to the 24h system( used in Europe)? Thanks and keep going buddy.👍
Great Segment, i have a few mint examples of the model you showed with the speaker grill removed. Thanks for Sharing I actually have discovered a way of bringing the module back to life🤩
What a very good review of this iconic time piece. I am old enough to remember it's presentation and it was impressive. I also admire your collection in the back of the room. Thanks man!
I though a156 is the module, but the model you are actually showing is 5020 from 1979? The first solar model was dated at early 1978 and it was (a156) 5000.
I have one of these purchased new back in the 70s and need to replace the O ring seal for the screw-off cover. Are these O rings available? If not, what are the dimensions of the O ring? Thanks!
Just picked up the A156 5030 Silverwave, I did have a 5000 back in 1980, the A156 has been my fave all the way through, brings back so many memories of the early days, awesome review! See you on the FB page :-) Cheers!
Hi man. I have this one (similar) and need in deep clean. Have you ever dissamble it at all? The display is where it begins easy, just 4 screws, but I dont see how to tear appart the electronic machine from the green back piece in order to clean all the pieces. If you know how I appreciatte your answer. thanks.
Hi how are you i have 3 seikos Fiest is a C359 5000E that is for my Uncle grandfather and my father gift me so i want to do a service The next one is a C359 5010E i bought this to fix the first one because my father lose the hatch batery, but that Second watch come with the batery contact broken its possible fix? And the 3 one is A156 the same you show in that video and have the same problem with the C359 5010E the batery center contact are broken Any info really thanks from Miami I have like 7 years try to found the hatch for my seiko
Once again a great video and review of this must have seikos ( for me anyway) I didn’t know you could have used a standard battery for solar. Ps, thank you for the group shout out in your credits.
No problem Michael, and in the first comment someone recommended an alternative to the power cell, I already ordered one and I am keen to see if it works.
Note that this only works if the secondary powercell (the solar panel cell) is not damaged.. I also have a A156 that only works with a normal battery, because the secondary battery is damaged... (The panel will blink after a while, indicating the powercell have to be replaced) I hope you already tested the Varta V15H. I already have the watch running for over 4 months now without any problems... (the datasheet of this powercel says its Life Expectancy is about 6 years...)
acctually i bought the A156 on eBay with a 'normal' battery. I changed this with the Varta V15H. After e few weeks the 'normal' battery exploded! You don't want to have this happening when its inside the watch. so maybe its better to be safe and put tape on the charging points...
Hi man. Really great channel. Congratulations. I have this one and the melodic, it is beatiful. It has a missnig segment wich sometimes is shown, but it is almost always off. I cleaned zebras, LCD contacts and motherboard contacts but nothing. Do you have another techinique to bring it alive again? In bigger calculators I have seen a tech who pass the solder over all the contacts in order to refresh them if any is in bad condition, but the chip of digital watches is very small and I am afraid of pissing out. Thanks a lot. I have almost 200 digital watches, some of them very strange. Greets from Argentina.
Hi, and thank you for the comment. Good that you cleaned the zebra strips, make sure the LCD is also cleaned and the board. If everything is cleaned it is either the LCD or the board of the watch. You can test both but it is a little complicated. As for the soldering technique, it is just a technique and you can refresh the solder in any other way.
@@VintageDigitalWatches Thanks for your response. I catched a technique, maybe useful for you. Using a great lens, if looking at about 45 degrees the segments appear blue, they are ok, but if they appear grey, they are broken. Did you know that? Greets.
hi. i have a A158 and would appreciate any review/description available. i am keen to use it again but it appears that one of the connectors on which the battery rests/connects has come loose after being in its box untouched for probably over 25 years. thanks for any insights / inside views to restore mine.
I got this watch from my grandpa, the watch died, I took it to the service station and I had must to buy the solar battery, where could I buy/get the solar battery?
Hey, I discovered your channel thanks to the WatchUP69 recommended channel video and I am LOVING IT!!! Sadly my wallet will not be as happy 😄 Where are you from if I may ask?
Hi and greetings from Romania, and congrats on your channel as well I see some pieces there that I have been looking at. Phill's channel (Watchup69) does have some nice real world reviews which I quite like because of the realistic things he looks at. Regards. Tibi

Hi! I apology if this is not the right place to ask but I have a A159 Seiko and i damaged the piece of plastic ( I don’t know how to call this) below the glass (where there is information on it such as « light », « date+... what pusher do what, etc)... so I damaged it in the ultrasonic bath with the wrong solution while trying to refurbish it... ( i am a beginner and I feel so stupid)... my question is, can this piece of plastic be separate from the body of the watch... it seems so solidly attached... I am hoping to replace it from a donor watch. I don’t want to mess up again. Thank you for your time.
Vintage Digital Watches thank you for your help... in the mean time, I tried to remove the glass... I managed to successfully break it the glass... the graphic plate is removable that way indeed. Have you ever tried to remove a glass on those type of watches?... would you have tips?... because of the graphic plate, the space left to push it out is very small... mmmh would you a press?... fingers?.... hot/cold trick?
Hello, I'm tryng to fix mine. I disassembled the module , cleaned everything and reassembled. Then I put on a New battery (normal one 1,5v) . Watch seems dead but after some our it turns on. The problem is that when i press the right buttons they work (even beep) but watch turns off for a while. If i press left buttons (light(witch works), adjust ) watch turns off longer. Light always works. Can you help me?
I have a problem on the seiko module 158 there is no side contact of the batteries, there is only one that is under the batteries, everything is works but in the time display mode, it blinks,(on other modes not) the light does not work, but when the button is pressed, the clock stops blinking. I really need help who can help me and tell some advice?

I believe you can only remove it if you remove the front glass. The graphics are printed on a thin aluminium plate, that needs to come out.

Is that normal, or do the lights have to be replaced
I don't think the filament gets dimm over time. Try a new battery first.
