    Really good video I might get employed soon in a company that’s building a 3d data base of an entire city with both of these technologies and this helped alot

    Thanks for the very thorough comparison.
    Few questions I have:
    1. When capturing shiny objects, you can use cross polarization technique with photogrammetry which can eliminate most reflections, can the laser scanner compete with that?
    2. There are laser scanners which can provide an object with color texture in few minutes and save a lot of processing time that you have to do with photogrammetry, I'm not sure if the texture created by the laser scan is good enough but reducing the overall creating time of an object can be a serious gamechanger when you need to capture great number of items

      1. The laser scanner works on a different principle and so an object with glare has less of an issue but anything that would reflect the laser could cause an issue. It isn’t a simple answer.
      2. The laser scanner doesn’t have as good a camera as a good quality DSLR. Textures almost always look better with photogrammetry.

    Thank you for this video - a really great walkthrough of the two methods. For the field I am working in, I am sitting back with two questions: 1) How easy is it to combine either of the two methods with GIS, for a beginner? 2) Which one of the methods are better in terms of accurate measurements if you do not use GIS or "reference points". (Maybe you already explained it - and I just didn't capture it :)

      1 if you want to combine GIS coordinates to any of the Laser Scanner a Photogrammetry Projects, it’s possible through the use of ground control points. You just need to find a way of getting good control and then you enter those coordinates inside of the software at known points
      2 accuracy depends on scale. For smaller projects the laser scanner would be more accurate but for very large projects spanning several kilometers, it would be difficult to beat Photogrammetry. There are other factors so it is not a simple answer.

    Thanks for the video! May be you can tell something about combination the laser scanners and photogrammetry? Use both technologies to complement each other. In theory, this can improve the quality of the model in places where there are strong shadows, thin objects, etc. I know in 3DF Zephyr we can drape photo on 3d mesh created from laser measured point cloud.

      There are definitely advantages to using both Technologies but integrating them both is not always a simple matter and it often requires a bit of repair if you are working in the film or gaming industry. I guess it depends on what your after.

    With GPS RTK systems and measuring buildings or large exterior spaces, you can usually get down to about 1cm of accuracy.

      That's what they say, but as you probably know, there are a lot of caveats there.

    Thank you for your good video. Could you recommend software for human 3D modelling in door ? I use 1.2Mbpi cameras (120 pcs) and Reaitycapture SW.

    Can a mirrorless camera be food for photogrametry? Or is a full frame ? The reason I want mirrorless is quite burst shots.

      @@smallnuts2 Focus on taking good photographs and don’t forget the organization and arrangement of photographs are important too.

    Thank you for the information, im new to this subject.
    For an indoor controlled situation, lets say to scanner a 3D skull, can i lock the camera in one spot and then take pictures of the object rotating it on a plate? or is better the object stay fixed and take pictures in diferents spots like you said?
    Second, what is the best focal lengh to shoot for an good accuracy? 35mm full frame equivalent?
    Third, im thinking about potogrammetry for this project, i want the results to be most accurate possible texture, size and detail, do you think photogrammetry is the best choise? Panasonic G9 20mp can take photos 6k 80mp
