- A good feature is the fairly slow running speed, which enables you to at least have some chance of seeing the flame being 'licked'. Too many flame lickers are just a high speed blur, which defeats the objective, IMHO. - Excellent tip re the best lubricant, thanks. - QUESTION, PLEASE: I assume the valve on top of the cylinder avoids any tendency for compression and simplifies inlet valve design. Compression is conventionally avoided by inlet valve 'lift', requiring freedom in that direction, which is difficult to achieve with reliabilty. IS THAT CORRECT, PLEASE?
Me and my father tried to build one for months... no sucess... Does the chamber are square format inside? Does the vertical "tower" have some mechanism inside it or is it just for holding up the engine? We tried so hard man, so many afternoons. But we always tried that more generic cilinder format, we may try one like this one day. Any tips?
Hi Glathoppa, unfortunately youtube doesn't let me answer your comment directly. Please consider this: ruclips.net/video/9JstXOp0jjo/видео.html To your question: The valve is in fact only a ball lying on a round hole. No compression needed.
Latheman666 - Thanks for your speedy reply. I've altered my original post to read: 'Compression is conventionally avoided by inlet valve 'lift'...'(the word 'avoided' replaces a previous word 'achieved'). If it helps other readers, my alteration is now in sync withyour reply - many thanks. To summarise: eliminate compression. - Which specific Liqui Moly product do you use, please? I've Googled the name, only to discover that their product range is huge.
glathoppa In fact it was an other make: www.amazon.de/gp/product/B000U3UM7S/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1OW81R8UO3SIW It's only important that it contains Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2). Graphite would be the second best.
I'd be cool to have a harmonic balancer with pulley on the front with an alternator to charge a cellular phone with this steampunk device
Have alot of runout on that flywheel, you should really be supporting it on both sides with bearings.
beautiful.. I could watch that all day!
We need to have a talk about concentricity or crankshaft straightening. Nice engine!
Did someone smack the flywheel during assembly or did it fall from the table on display ?
I built one, never got it to run. Yours is very nice!

now, hook up to a 5 volt generator :)
Mystic Virgo steampunk phone charger
yip!
I have been wanting to see somone do that with a small hobby steam engine :)
Perhaps a wider shaft or longer for a secondary support there’s a lot of deflection there but a beautiful engine none the less
Wouldnt it be more efficient if we made hole at the bottom of cylinder and put a candle under it? This makes sense to me because heat goes up
Erinnert mich irgendwie an einen alten Traktor.
Schöne Maschine.
great video and I might start getting into hot air engines but like this one

Looks good pity you could not have made a new crank for it so at least it ran true.
Someone a very worked hard. It looks a bit like a central heating furnace
Awesome, your videos make me jealous. Where do you find these?
Most of them I found on ebay.
The power/connecting rod mechanism seems complex
Is the box around the engine a water jacket? 👍
Very nice!
Piston material?
Nice!
Very nice, but wd40 or similar are not great lubricants
Where does the exaust come out
Fishing with chase and morgan it has none
why cant we make a dynamo from this?
We could, but it would be very inefficient. The effciency of vacuum engines is less then 5%. Even steam engines are much better.
thanks, I was hoping to built a 110V Dynamo, :( using biogas or alcohol, much cheaper than petrol and enviroment-friendly
what is it good for. -absolutely nothing.
And that makes it perfect

it sounds like farting !!! XDDD
Flywheel is not good. Is the strong
