Finally! The "evolution" part of the channel moved from Trailmakers to Scrap Mechanic! Edit: I'm going to ruin this comment by writing "Thanks for al the likes!".
Nah they done it in both scrap mechanic and trailmakers. If u were an OG who watched this group's progression you'd know. Go watch them they are great.
I like the new outline of your cog, Scrapman. It looks clean and does a nice job. Of showcasing your background/shelf. I hope your move has been fluid and life is getting back to normal for you, the wife, and the scrapdogs!
You should create a measuring surface you can weld to the ground. That way you can just paint the block where it ends without worrying about the block getting in the way.
Fun fact about 15:30 in ww2 the painted b17 bombers would survive much more then the unpainted because the paint kept the bolts in place even after getting hit by flak
Another fun fact about paint in aerospace: the NASA space shuttle's distinctive orange tank was left unpainted (after the very first mission) to save weight, its color was just from the insulation.
Ok so you could do somethig like this: You have like a currency and every piece you add costs you X amount. Each of you start with like 30 currency and when you finish the round you get more depending on how you performed, but the amounts go like this 3rd gets 20 2nd gets 15 1st gets 10 This so its constantly leveling out the competition
Do a Pine Wood Car challenge where you make cars that race each other using gravity and weight but with certain limitations. I remember gluing pennies on mine as a kid.
MPM Idea after watching the end of the video. Groundeffect evolution. starting with 20 or so blocks up to what ever you guys feel like. Launching from a similar catapult
Day 71 of asking scrapman to do a multiplayer where everyone starts at the crashed ship with a craftbot set up in the mechanic station and everyone has 30 minutes to build a vehicle from scratch, no glitches, thrusters allowed, after which everyone meets up and races along some road
I think keeping with the wing mod theme, try a helicopter lift challenge. You would have several different weights, I would include different grip points, slats on the bottom for a kind of pallet like grip, rails on the sides for a clamp, and a top loop for a hook. Each participant will need to design a helicopter to lift the weights using which ever grip they prefer, however the helicopter that can lift the most weight and carry it to a drop point in the least amount of time for each weight. You will need to lift off from a landing pad, fly to the load and pick it up, then fly the weight back to the landing pad and land their helicopter. Of coarse because you will be using the wings mod you will need to use rotation of the wings rather than thrusters to make it fly, this is for a real challenge both in terms of user control, but also in build functionality.
@SoupinSpace all you need is 2 counter spinning props, as long as there is 2 spinning in opposite directions the rotational force cancels out, then it's just tilting the props for forward, back, left and right.
For paper airplanes the best arrangements is to put weight on the front and have negative angle of attack in the back (facing downwards), so at speed the plane would tend to go up, but when stalling the front weight would help pull the plane downwards which would give the plane more speed which the plane would pitch upwards and then balancing out the front weight with the negative angle of attack.
I think it would have worked better if you attached the middle wings to a bearing on their forward center, and gave them a 3-5 degree elevation, while keeping the other large wings at 0, then adjust the small wings in the back to keep the glide flat.
The same concepts used in planes to give them natural stability work in scrap mechanic, so if anyone had thought to give their plane dihedral wings and balance their center of gravity, it would have been really good.
@@irrelevantsafetyplanes are usually made to be stable. In most planes, there is a slight upwards angle in the wings to do this. When one wing tilts down, it is now essentially flat which makes it generate more lift, flipping the plane back up. As far as center of gravity goes, planes have their center of gravity forward of their wings. Their wings act as a fulcrum of a lever. To balance the center of gravity, the horizontal stabilizer generates negative lift. It is often a symmetrical airfoil angled down. This slight angle (because of its further distance from the ‘fulcrum’) balanced the center of gravity. When the plane pitches down, that downward angle of attack is intensified, resulting in a pitch up motion. When the plane pitches up, the horizontal stabilizer has a lesser angle of attack which lets the center of gravity pull it back to center. The vertical stabilizer also provides stability based on varying angles of attack.
So, I was thinking, maybe you guys could do a challenge to see who can make an unmanned car that goes the straightest. You'd have to either make a course that's slightly raised with edges that slope down, or a long corridor.
I would have preferred a proper evolution challenge that would have had all players take the winning design of a round to try and improve it. If they were all worse the following round they'd keep the same generation into the next round. Only a better design would push the players into the new model. Would have made for a far more interesting evolutionary change.
Day 169 of Asking scrapman to make a Machine that make that uses the steal balls and magnets to make the steal ball orbit around your creation with out any thing touching them and try to take out a building with it in instruments of destruction
I'm pretty sure on scrapman's plane the "tail fin" piece was being contacted by the launch mechanism before the body on all of the iterations, meaning it was literally getting thrown at a downwards angle. a perfectly flat toss and perfectly flat glide would theoretically be the best option in both game and real world physics but scrap mechanic can be janky enough that I would not be remotely surprised to find that you can make a thing that consistently falls up, let alone to find that gliding doesn't work quite how you'd expect.
Intrestingly, the angle on the front wings is what caused Scrapman's planes to dip downward immediately: if you play the launches frame-by-frame, you can see the nose start to lift, but then the plane tips forward in response to all the weight being on the tail, causing a downward launch angle
Hi Srapman, is it possible to try to do a plane race or an aerial battle (cardboard plane) or make remote controlled planes if not continue like that ?
Should have done two straight winglets and the three middle wings with a 5 degree incline. Just to have those middle wings catch onto the air kindof like a sail would to help the plane fight against gravity a little longer. The winglets would just help at keeping it level, though they might not even be needed.
Can you do a Challenge/ Evolution with a plane that is powered by thruster thats connected to a timer, so the thruster gets power only 5-10 sec. and you have to get trough a course or you have to achieve the furthest distance
sensors that change the wing angle based on flown distance? since it was part of the rules that nothing can move one the plane besides the plane itself, it would have been cheating.
@@TheMRacer Yes, a sensor into a timer into a controller would make vor an easy way to tilt the wings up after the start and make up some of that lost height with it. And then its just adjusting the timing and angles That wouldn't be evolving much, but just fiddling with settings
I´d like to see a Helicopter race on the Country Roads map with a fixed maximum flight height of 20 blocks (limit that by a sensor below the seat for everyone) maximum of 1 thruster for each direction, 4 for lift, no glitches.
I would do this but measure at the front of the glider instead of the back, and try using the navy’s method to launch planes because since it pulls it from underneath, it can go even faster
I don't know if you've looked at it, it's an older game, but there are a LOT of mods to fiddle around with, quite active development, and a very active community, and I'd be quite interested to see what you and your crew would do with Space Engineers.
it would be cool to see one of these except you are allowed to have moving parts like sensors as long as it isn't powered from things like wheels or propellers so you're plane could do things like turn up if its close to the ground or adjust other things mid-flight.
Finally! The "evolution" part of the channel moved from Trailmakers to Scrap Mechanic!

There was a glider evolution in scrap mechanic

kAN: Modern Airplane
Moonbo: Wright Brothers
Can we all agree that this is the best trio on RUclips
Agreed
Yeah pretty much

I love how scrapman ended up winning after his design settled on an ekranoplan
I love the idea of no driver creations! I would love to see sensor based challenges like driving paths and such. Maybe a sensor based battlebot? Idk

The best series EVER!!!
Can't wait for YDIB!
Really enjoyed this one. I kind of remembered the first video I have watched on this channel, which was evolution of glider cars.
catapult evolution (glitches allowed)
catapults AND projectiles
limits: no thrusters
I think that this would be awesome
It's been so long since the last evolution video , thank you for bringing it back.
Nice new set ScrapMan! Congrats on the new house!

WOO! i love the evolution videos, and now its in scrap mechanic!
Should definitely do more evolution stuff it's my favorite at least
Yeah, its been months since any evolution video and closest thing to evolution races is this series of races when everyone improves just their design
Finally, a backwards evolution video in scrap mechanic

You could make an autopiloting plane or car, basically robot racing evolution,
Using sensors and stuff

that rock paper scissors idea with the hammer and the handbook and the weld tool is kinda genius tbh

I've missed evolution challenges. cant wait for another one. maybe the perfect bottle flipper or something
How about just this paper airplane idea, but the crafts have controls on them

The ultimate strategy was to just not make paper airplanes, and just make paper ground slider.
I would do this but measure at the front of the glider instead of the back, and try using the navy’s method to launch planes because since it pulls it from underneath, it can go even faster

The main "issue" is that scrap mechanic doesn't model stalling correctly it seems.
