Band Maid music has the effect of inducing thoughts of music from your formative years. You know it is new music, but it triggers those memories, regardless of your age. My formative years are the 60's/70's and their songs would have fit in with all the others back then.

It reminds me of Rush. The lyrics are profound.. the music is multi-tiered. Rush was prog rock. Distinctive vocals. Deep lyrics. The drummer was as adept at jazz as he was with rock and roll. Blazing guitar. 3 members sounded like an orchestra. This song reminds me of the best of Rush.

Band Maid has this unique superpower in rock music to have something new, but make you feel nostalgic for the music of your youth.
Their fanbase spans a few generations and every single person you ask will tell you it sounds like the music of their youth. It reminds me of the 80’s, just the riff heavy music.

If you want to hear some synthwave check this amazing song by Ado, "New Genesis." Ado is arguably the best singer in Japan now.
Band-Maid's hard rock songs are great but some of my favorites are softer songs like Endless Story and Anemone.

There's definitely a lot of punk in their sound, I've heard people compare them to emo and post-hardcore (not the vocals though, obviously). Alone leans hard into pop-punk, and songs like Don't Let Me Down, Unleash!!!!!, and maybe Blooming have a bit of an older punk rock vibe to them. Different and Black Hole have a bit of thrash in them. Even when they're playing more straightforward rock, they've got some of that punk speed and energy.
