but for a total beginner that follow a tutorial it's kinda expected

i’m assuming it has some kind of ui and has to deal with graphics libraries, otherwise that is next level yapping

Depends on the calculator. Making the default windows calculator with it's graphical UI, hotkey handling and multimode functions could take days to actually get right.
Especially if you get into the nitty gritty of each function, rather than just yank a random library in to do it for you.
