Nice short review! I have begun writing a stage play based on the story (yes, I am that nerdy and have too much free time). The chapter structure really lends itself to a play format and those villain characters are just too noble / twisted / tragic not to be in a play. I think the world needs a dramatic Shining Force experience without the constant "quickly evades" fails and searching for silly underwear items for the female mages. There are some really cool themes in this story that were marred by the misogyny / silliness of the early 90s.
Shining Force is my favorite Genesis game. Ive played it whenever it's re-released. But just purchased a Sega Genesis and I'm excited to dust off my old cartridge. 😊
Great video! This was one of the first games I ever really played due to my brother buying it on the wii virtual console and I sunk so much time into it as a kid and I still do replays nearly 18 years later! I'm usually torn on what my favorite is between I and II but my usual answer is I. It's got so much charm and every battle is ingrained in my memory lol. One of my favorite games of all time for sure

@@nihilshere Hope you enjoy! I should have a Shining Force II review dropping today or tomorrow as well, although it will be in my normal "shorter" style.
I found this game for sale way back in the day after playing SF2. The battery in the cartridge was loose, so to beat this, we had to leave the genesis on for the whole time we were at school, etc.
Hahaha, I remember things like this as well. I had an RPG with a loose battery as well. Might have been FF3 SNES, but unsure. I would risk turning it off. But if you bumped into anything the wrong way... bye bye save! But stuff like that is classic retro gaming memories! Thanks for the comment & for watching.
Enjoy reviews like these. Some channels just can’t help but spur into opinionated ramblings that have nothing to do with the actual content. Not this channel, straight into the useful bits! Thumbs Up :D
I appreciate it! I do try and stick to the point as best as possible haha. My reviews actually used to be super short, but I took some feedback and made them a bit longer these days. Thanks for watching
I would suggest killing everyone for the experience points. If you are super desperate (on a time crunch, struggling badly with a battle, etc.), maybe consider one of the other victory conditions. Some of the outdoor battles can take a long time, so that might be a time to "reach the destination" as well. But typically, I will always kill every enemy!
Yup! WWF Superstars. Fun game, my only gripe is the 1P/Left side, the controls are like... reversed. Hard as hell to mash properly unless you're left handed!
Absolutely agree that this game is superior to two, regardless of popular opinion. One of my favorite games of all time, I own it on nearly every console ive ever bought plus two genesis copies.
A person of culture! Haha. I have nothing against two, still love it and it’s one of my favorite games, but one just hits differently. Appreciate you watching and the comment.
I definitely prefer the first over the second, as well as over Shining Force III Scenario 1. I think they are all really great games, but the first just feels the best to me!
@@Bitsandglory it's the playthrough factor, not to long, second one seems to drag on where the first one gets to the point. . . Ever play Myth the Fallen Lords and Soulblighter for P.C.? If not you should get it Abandonware, it's a pretty good strategy game, still holds up very well to this day. Strategy RPG . . .units are fun and entertaining but the storyline is superb.
Yep, it got cancelled a few months after this review. But when I made the review, it was in development. Glad to hear it. I got my copy of Shining Force CD about 8 years ago when it was still affordable. Very good game, but not as good as 1 or 2 IMO.
I used to play this game like 31 years ago on my Sega Megadrive! Our favourite team ever aside from me as the hero is Gong, Balbaroy, Zylo, Pelle, Domingo, Guntz, Lyle, Bleu, Musashi, Adam, Hanzou. I would sometimes exchange Gort for Balbaroy, Kokichi for Pelle, Alef for Adam, Amon for Bleu, Diane for Zylo.
I remember just going into ToysRUs and just buying this game after just looking at the gamebox. Crazy when the pictures on the back don't show anything about what the game is like lol One of my favorites from my childhood
I heard this game was similar to Fire Emblem so I decided to try it since it’s on NSO. It’s so different from Fire Emblem! I’m really liking it so far though. 💖
Sees a new good quality video on Shining Force. Hears Robert Kendo, saying "Woah sorry about that babe." heheh oh this gonna be good I'm a big resident evil fan but in past few years i've become a big fan of the old camelot era of Shining games. Heck I completed Shining Force 2... 3 times in a row in 2020 alone trying different team set ups ad using cheats to just fuck around with game scripts. I have no nostalgia for this series but Shining Force 1,2 and a recent modern game Mutant Year Zero. These games sold me on tactical rpgs. Personally I'm not a fan of this sub genre but these games have made me go back to tons of tactical rpgs i used to neglect so much in my past. I hope the new mobile gatcha game can revive and faithfully bring back old school Shining Force and .... maybe do proper remakes of SF1 and 2. I know alot of new people will love to play the first two shining force games but they do need some quality of life updates and better translations. I let my friend play SF2, he enjoyed it but alot of the translations and older controls were a bit rough for him. I'm happy to see old Shining fans here showing love for this series, tho im a newcomer to this series it really has strongly stood the test of time with a mega slam dunk. Which is something I don't say with alot of old games including old jrpgs that I grew up playing as a kid. Thanks for the videos man.
Thank you for watching and your comment! I am actually just playing Shining Force III for the first time all the way through (only dabbled years ago) hoping to wrap up Scenario I This week, so my nostalgia is for SF 1&2 only really as well (my early report is, Sf3 is great but I still enjoy the first 2 more). Shining Force definitely opened my eyes to other SRPGs like Fire Emblem and FFT as a kid, but on the whole I still think I prefer traditional turn based random encounter JRPGs. So much love for this series though, and thanks again for watching!
I forgot to mention! Also glad to see other people recognizing the Kendo line lmao. Huge RE fan as well. Hoping to circle my way back for some RE content soon, just been so wrapped up in RPGs I can't contain myself!
Shining Force is the best! I’m currently playing 2 for the 1st time ever and it has not disappointed in the slightest. I’ve played 1 dozens of times over the years. Here’s hoping you hit that 1,000 soon!🥂
Awesome! Enjoy the journey of 2. Also a wonderful game, such a grand scale. While I prefer the first, I can acknowledge that 2 in many ways can be deemed superior. And I appreciate it - hoping to hit 1K before the end of the year!
I’ve only ever played shining force 2 but I have played it several times through out my life. I love it and is one of the first rpgs I ever played. The first Zelda for the NES was my first ever rpg when I was 5 years old.

I don't normally get into plays, musicals, and the like... but I would make an exception for Shining Force! Best of luck with the writing.
Nice video! Always good to see some Shining Force content.
Thank you! I appreciate you watching, the comment and the feedback on Reddit haha. It is noted for future deep dives.

I didn't even like slow, turn based RPGs but damn this is something special ... And excellent soundtrack

What would you suggest?
Kill everyone, Kill the main enemy/boss or reach the destination asap?

Wasn't the mobile gacha game for Shining Force canceled for months now? I am allready happy to have gotten SF CD thanks to the Mega Drive Mini 2...
