Steve stone and harry carray you would think is a odd combination in the beginning. But I couldn't picture harry doing a game with anyone else but steve stone. They had a special kind of magic doing games I think you will never replicate.

alas Harry's son is a big reason I'm a braves fan. Steve Stone and Joe Simpson need to write a book on the stories they have.

Harry was a very unique and original person...My wife is not a sports fan but she would listen to Harry....He was a raconteur and wonderful entertainer...Even our male cat, Mao would listen to Cubs games with a silly smirk on his face...
You don t replace legends like Harry/Buck/Harwell/Cheek/Kalas...They are like Bambino Ruth, they live for ever in our hearts..

I remember watching the game where Harry miscalled the fly and called it as a home run. My dad and I were laughing our butts off. I used to watch those two everyday as a kid. :)

I had recorded that game! Was just telling my wife about it. Opening day against the Expos. Mark Grace was the batter and he got thrown out at third.

I grew up in St. Louis listening to Harry and whoever his partner was at the time. (He had at least 3 that I recall.) He called Cardinal games for 23 years. The legend was that he could get you run out of town if he didn't like you as a player. He would suggest that you didn't hustle or weren't a team guy, something like that. But he was always entertaining and loved the Cardinals.

His first partner was Gabby Street, After he died, Gus Mancuso replaced him. When AB bought the Cardinals, they hired Jack Buck in 1954 and Joe Garagiola joined them a year later. Joe left after 1962 and Jack remained his partner and would become Voice of the Cardinals after Harry was fired after the 1969 season.

Stoney would very often explain whats going to happen next and then you watched it happen. Loved his colorful explanations. And Harry ribbing him about the cigars. I hated when Dwayne Statts did the play by play.
