    Purple is sweet! If that is battery corrosion, it would be alkaline not an acid. Treating it would require an acid like vinegar or acidic toilet cleaner to naturalize it so it doesn't continue to corrode. I see this on circuit boards quite often.

    I'm just now at the part where you're back from washing after stripping the original paint. I saw you hesitating to put the brush to it. I winced the instant the brush touched the roof. It was for the best though.
    Ok back to the show...
    ...And I'm back lol
    I know I'm way late getting to this one, but I would have voted for changing the wheels out, but putting the old ones in a little Ziploc baggie and marking them as purple custom cougar. I was originally thinking the the acid had ruined the LF wheel, but then when you spun it around, the RF wheel looked the same. I wonder why the red stripes wore off of the fronts but not the rears. Anyway, as usual a great job. I almost wish you had returned it to it's original color, but either way it's still a pretty kitty.
    That Transporter body is a very nice casting. Too bad about the plating. Patience is what that's going to take. That and a lot of sandpaper lol I'd love to have a real one, but they're way out of any budget I'll ever ba able to afford so I'll have to settle for a diecast instead. I forget the name of company, I think it's AW or something like that, but anyway they make a very nice looking orange and white 23? window HO slot car for around $25 that I've had my eye on for quite a while now. One day maybe I'll talk myself into buying one lol. Every now and then I check eBay for a diecast, but usually they're poor quality brands, way more than I'm willing to pay for a 1:64 car, or it's that stupid looking Hot Wheels one with the extra short wheelbase.

    Have you considered using solder to fill in the pock mark holes in the body, prior to a good sanding and the zinc plating? Either that or a metal body filler that comes out of a tube? I’ve seen Marty of Marty’s Matchbox Makeovers use it on MB castings, but I don’t know if it’d be successful prior to zinc plating...The paint turned out a little dark, but it still is in the purple spectrum. The vinyl roof line in the trunk area doesn’t look original, but it can always be smoothed out to match the vintage painted trunk line...overall, a nice resto. I think original wheels (despite a bit of wear) are always better than reproductions. They show the car’s been loved and played with. Great job as usual...

    • @DiecastResurrection
      @DiecastResurrection  5 лет назад

      Id like to have a solid way of filling those little pits. Everyone talks about solder but I don't know if its possible. I'm starting to think that having a dark spot where filler would be is better than a pin hole in the paint job though.

    • @twoblacklabs904
      @twoblacklabs904 5 лет назад

      Diecast Resurrection ...not sure if a nice clean micro-dot of solder would create a dark spot if it was sanded smooth and blended in, then zinc plating over the entire surface to build up a new zymac/shiny chrome metal surface in preparation for the Spectraflame...
      Anyway, great result. The rear edge of the vinyl roof where it meets the trunklid was really my only beef, but it turned out very nice.

    I'd say change the wheels. You basically have a brand-new car, so it should have new wheels.
    I wonder if a strategy to deal with the pitting might've been to give the car a base coat of silver after sanding to mute the pits, while providing something shiny for the spectraflame. Silver is kind of a pain in the ass to work with (takes longer to dry, tends to be soft), but I might've given that a shot. I wonder what spectraflame looks like over silver paint?
    Another alternative could have been to fill the defects with a little putty, and then go with primer + enamel. But, I applaud your decision to proceed straight with Spectraflame, and hope you are happy with the paint job over the long term.

    Purple looks good, but I was really hoping for a red one like Mrs. 007's Cougar XR7 from "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". =)

    Another great restoration, its a purrfect purple kitt. Leave the original wheels they look great for their age.

    Killer purple people eater man! I agree with you factory wheels adds character, plus I'd feel guilty cutting up that mint base and tires

    Change the wheels is my opinion. Love the work and videos. As I watch more of these I find myself wondering if anyone makes rubber red line wheels? I know that's not original or collectible, but I would like to see rubber tires with the red line

    Use a little bit of automotive fine surface filler for them casting bubbles as re-zinc-ing will not fill them. Also notice you never use primer. Other than that love your videos and humour (we were trying to work out your accent and which character off Modern American Cartoons you sound like, modern being Family Guy, American Dad, The Simpsons and South Park). You and Marty are really the kings of this scene, love your attention to detail.
    One thing also is maybe you could do a video on the products and tools you use as no one ever shows the Drill they use and the make of it...I support a certain brand of power tools (hint they also make Dremel) and it is interesting to see which brand of tools people use and what power level they use, prefer battery or wall, that kind of thing...What compressor and spray gun and why, What paint type make etc and why. You get the idea...
    But remember here in Europe we cannot get a lot of those American products, but that said what with Amazon you can get anything these days for a price, usually quite high...

    Car turned out wicked love the purple. Drab to fab with nothing but mustard. Homestar Mustard. Is there other colors available for vinyl tops. If so I’d suggest a white top.
