I took YOUR comments to heart and turned the flow all the way up on the oenjing then used burlap and moss to divert the flow #aquarium #bonsai #penjing
Thank you for keeping us updated. You amaze me with what you're able to cobble together without ever leaving your house. Wish I had half the mechanical understanding of how things work that you do, and tools. I'm on my own after 16 years ended abruptly, and man do I need tools, and those suckers are expensive! I would so love to be one of those naturally inclined handywoman can make or fix anything kind of people. Sigh... 👍❤👍
I have been hitting garage sales and marketplace HARD to get my tool game back up to snuff. I am stupid thankful that Chris and I did so many projects actively together over the past 20 years that I feel super capable. Luckily, my current partner is also a rockstar but I have learned to lean on myself more and am proud of it. You've got this too!
@@RachelOLeary Thanks for the vote of confidence. It means a lot. I did get myself an 83 straight line 6, full size old Ford truck for projects and hauling rocks, 2x4s and whatever. Bought it from the original owner, he's getting ready to go into assisted living and said he was glad "Mabel" (reminded me of your cat) was going into good hands who would appreciate her. We don't have salt and hard winters here in NC, so she's good body wise too. She needs a muffler and new brakes, but that's no big deal at all. I've been haunting yard sales and flea markets for tools also. I'll be ok, and I'll learn as I go, but it is stupid HARD to be starting with nothing tool wise. Thanks again for the vote of confidence. 👍❤👍
@@shesellsfish I feel ya. My entire life went upside down. I have a roommate now and my favorite thing I have learned from him is this: how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
@@RachelOLeary Yep, and you and I are going to eat that sucker until one day we'll find ourselves stuffed to the gills and using the tusks for a scape. ( For any PETA folks that may happen to read this, no actual elephants will be harmed, it's a metaphor PETA, a mere metaphor, 😂)
I love that you aren’t giving up on this headache! I would look into hygrolon sheets to use instead of burlap because it will also end up rotting like the sphagnum moss did. As for plants, the Anubias looks amazing on there, I’d use bucephalandra, crypts and hygrophila pinnatifida in the crevices, they all would thrive in that environment.
How clever! Well done think tank, keen to see how it turns out, this sort of troubleshooting is really helpful and tips and tricks like this can often be applied to similar issues.
Now, hopefully, you can enjoy your holiday. Sit back pour yourself a glass of wine ( or whatever) and enjoy. Sending you love health and happiness for the new year. 💗🎄
Not only does this seem to be fixing the issues of having flow high, water splashing, and dripping from the back, it also seems to look very nice! The Java moss near the waterline is excellent and may grow in very nicely both on the rock and in the tank
Awesome! Thanks for the quick update! I’m also interested in the water readings now that the ficus is gone and (I think) it’s been cycling a couple days? Curious if that was the fix!
I'm interested to see how the coffeefolia does. I have some hastifolia that just broke the surface of the tank and with the emergent growth has gone absolutely bonkers!
The audio on this video is so much better than usual! Don't know how you're doing it, but if you could replicate this setup on all your videos that would be a gamechanger! For a long time I would click away from your videos, knowing you only as "that channel with the background noise". It's still grating (except for this video), and probably a barrier to a lot of people engaging with the content
I switched editing software and have been trying very hard to improve that aspect. This particular video was just shot on my cell phone, so the compression probably helped as well.
This screams for Bucephalandra :), given there's enough humidity you could plant them into the folds. Bucephalandra grow in clayish stony to muddy ground but climb into rivers holding onto rocks. There are various types. Have a look at discoveryplanet's channel for inspiration; his expertise are cryptocorynes but also has amazing habitat videos of bucephalandra. Here's one ruclips.net/video/5iOJc_wwE2g/видео.html One idea about the pump - if you don't mind internal pumps you might water the rock with a regular living room fountain pump. They're 2-4W, around 6x3x5 cm (LxWxH) and should be sufficient to feed the rivlet. Advantage: internal behind the rock, disadvantage depending on vendor is a slight humming you can sense when touching the tank due to the vibration of the pump. They're usually attached with suckers to the pane or ground plate.
Got here after watching Joey's podcast. Now subbed, never a fan. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I'm your age but just now taking the "hobby" seriously .

Wow burlap and java moss!! Awesome!
That's one of my favourites of yours.
Thanks for the update. It’s interesting to see how you problem solve. Good luck and Merry Christmas
Looks beautiful, hope you could try putting critters inside once again..happy holiday!
Hell yeah for Java moss!
I think it’s a great solution and should work long term. As long as nothing gets in the way from above diverting the water. Like you mentioned before.
Merry Christmas Rachel
I understand that this was meant to be open but this would be an awesome setup inside of a paludarium
a big paludarium inside a greenhouse would have such good water.
No, thank YOU!
Maybe add a 90 degree elbow to the tubing behind the rock, any drips would fall back into the tank.
It is looking great now hopefully u can keep fish in their
So far so good!
🖐😀Merry Christmas
I'm glad people were able to help!
I like the idea of using burlap for the moss to grab onto and keep the water under control. Here's hoping you get some relax time for Christmas.
I think it looks incredible like that.
You are welcome

Yea I plan on getting hygrolon but was using what I have for a short term solution
Yeah some nice buce from buce plants would add a layer of intrigue for sure, they have an amazing selection.

Looks great
🎄Merry Christmas Rachel, and silent partner. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season,⛄☃️ and wishes for a Happy New Year...🍾🥂
Love Abby's new ink!! 👍
Very cool, Rachel!! I missed yesterdays, so guess I need to track that show down!

in the wild, they grow mainly emergent so it should do well once it fully converts.

Yeah overtime Java moss will regulate the flow for you...lol I've had moss completely occlude a 3/4 output on my pond
it can work against me as well, so I didnt' really want it to be my permanent solution, but its an excellent short term fix
