in history, a lot of swimwear was actually made out of knit fabric or knitted. wool was the best material they had to make swimwear out of, so many people resorted to knitting their own swim suits :D
This is so awesome. I agree that making it a bodysuit in the end was, in fact, the move. The stretch of the yarn really lends to the diagonal lines shaping in a satisfying way.
The problem you have with casting on too much even when you done the math according to the swatch, is because you're swatching knitting flat but the garment youre knitting is knit in the round. The solution is to swatch in the round when your project is knit in the round. also another suggestion, for the construction you chose of doing the top and then continuing to knit the bottom from the cast on row, you can try provisional cast on, it keeps the stitches live so there's no seam, if you don't need/ want the rigidity of cast on row in the middle of the garment. I adore your videos, you have such great eye for construction (this one is amazing!), and your determination to succeed is inspiring. The fit is fantastic and it looks exactly like the movie swimsuit!
Will do better with my swatching for sure :). The provisional cast on would have been such a great shout as well - appreciate the advice and suggestions! Thank you, I'm really glad you liked it
I agree this is probably the issue with the swatch. The tension when you knit one row and purl the other is going to be different compared to knitting every row in the round, even though they both produce stockinette.
This is absolutely beautiful! I love everything Barbie. Would you like to publish a pattern? I would gladly buy it and wear my bodysuit at the cinema when the movie comes out
Oh, my god girl that looks stunning!!!!! Like the way you execute everything, they turn out so well, it's mind-blowing! Would love to see how it would hold up in the water for long periods of time
in terms of your tension issue, I could be wrong, but I think knitting in the round vs back and forth causes a difference in tension, so that could be why your gauge doesn't match up with your final piece.
Wow, it fits perfectly. I'm working on a crochet one piece swimsuit, and I went with cotton. It's firm but I'm putting in a lace up back and snapps at the bottom like you did. I keep pulling yarn back out too, so many mistakes, but I'm not giving up either. I hope that mine fitts as well as yours ❤
omg i respect your drive so much and i always enjoy your humor and editing style! plus, the garment turned out amazing! that dart blew my mind and definitely love the clasp bodysuit addition! so cute!
This is just awesome work. I love it as a bodysuit..oh I miss those ( sometimes). I forget that there's whole generations of women that don't know about Barbie's history, personally I love that Ruth had the idea for a child's doll & then snagged the Lily doll out of those grubby paws. There's an element of **** those sexist pigs there that I just ❤.
Is there a chance to borrow or buy your beautiful piece for a professional photo shooting? I would love to get in touch with you and talk about more details. Thank you!
By the way this turned out great, but the looks, I can't imagine wearing an acrylic bodysuit though =O And I was glad to see you wear the bandage dress, looked amazing!

the original swimsuits were made of knitted wool actually so you were right
I think knitting your swatches in the round for projects you plan to construct in the round would help your cast on issue 😊

Thank you! It was pretty soft, although will have to see how it holds up (layering will probably be key)
Epic!
