Maybe having a breaker, which controls only the loop for exit signs and emergency lights, and this breaker is in the same breaker panel as other loads. Can make inspections easier while not interfering with their emergency functions. When inspecting, just switch off a particular breaker for energency light/exit sign loop. When there is a power outage, there will be no power to this panel and emergency lights still function as designated. This looks like a common method used in construction projects in China which is assigning a breaker specifically to these emergency equipments. Unsure whether Canada's local codes or requirements allow this kind of installation.
Have some emergency lights in my office that are leaking black liquid, is that battery acid? Also in one of the two affected fixtures I observed the transformer inside (the thing between the battery pack and the circuit board) I noticed it being stained with such liquid. Is this just a matter of ordering replacement battery packs or do you recommend I let the owners of the building have their property manager send someone?
Last year, my school had a lot of older incandescent emergency lights, and towards the end of the year I noticed they where testing them except a good amount did not work at all, and over the summer during marching band camp they where replacing every emergency light with new LED ones and one of the maintenance guys actually let me keep one of the old ones so I just fixed it and have it in my garage now
I found the old T5 Florescent based Emergency lights (this is the UK) last much longer than the horribly crappy LED ones they have also installed in the school I had work experience in, (I worked in IT) one of the jobs was attending to a power failure in a network cabinet, the buildings RCD (GFCI) tripped and none of the LED emergency lights where still working, the power had gone out at 04:34 at night, so the power had been off for some time, the Old 80s Florescent one's where still On!!! After lasting way longer than I had expected.
I don’t think so I think it’s actually the relay trying to switch over to battery but there is not enough power to do so because when you hit the test button it will disconnect the transformer
It would be good to do that I don’t get too very much though because I’m working in schools with kids all around me and I’m not allowed to show student I could probably get in trouble if I did
Hi nic, As an american I find it weird that in canada exit signs and emergency lights must stay on for only 30 minutes because here they must work for 90 minutes, Also awesome video hope you have a great day.
@@nics-systems-electric They kind of do actually, but at least we have emergency lighting because if we didn't buildings would be a whole lot darker in an outage of power. At least they work
15:53 love the abandoned panelboard now used as a junction box with “Danger, Keep Out!” Written on it
could you do a video?

It would be nice but not practical
Hey, does the big high school have nightlight?

That's nice
Kids, don't play with circuit breakers or Mr ouch will zap you!
I'm a kid but i don't play with electrical equipment.

After lasting way longer than I had expected.
They're good for protection don't get me wrong, they just freak me out. They still do til this day since elementary. They're like big eyes.
Oh boy I haven’t even watched it yet and I’m already commenting
Edit it was pretty cool
Thanks
my school did that inspection before the pandemic as i noticed all of the emergency lights were on
The buzzing noise is a transformer. It’s buzz when low voltage applies.
I don’t think so I think it’s actually the relay trying to switch over to battery but there is not enough power to do so because when you hit the test button it will disconnect the transformer
Would like to see some of your daily work routines maybe? This is a cool change up
It would be good to do that I don’t get too very much though because I’m working in schools with kids all around me and I’m not allowed to show student I could probably get in trouble if I did
He can't show kids or the district can make him stop, if a parent finds out they could file a lawsuit and coppa will Get mad at him too
Love it..
After replaced the battery, mine still buzzing itself. What could I do or have to replace the whole unit? Thanks
Replace it
@@nics-systems-electric I have this E185721-G Emergency Light Fixture old unit, which could substitute for? Thanks
1:46 how does it make that sound? Is there a buzzer in it
No it’s just the relay or transformer struggling
@@nics-systems-electric oh. i thought it did it on purpose to let you know the battery is low
At my school, nun of the emergency lights will work in the theater room
That’s not good
Yea not good that means they never replaced the battery
Hey Pickle is there a way to wire emergency lights to a burglar alarm system so when the sirens ring the emergency lights will flash with it?
No emergency light units run off 120 V AC
@@nics-systems-electric You can order emergency lights with a 24 volt alarm interface.
Nice Video

30 minutes and 90 minutes both seem excessive

@@nics-systems-electric yea the ones in my old school go dim at around 15 minutes and die at 25...
At my school the emergency lights are normal lights that are connected to the massive generators
That’s how most new buildings are like my high school
Nice!
at my school i tested 3 emergency lights 1 in a lunchroom bathroom 1 in a vestibule 1 in a PE bathroom
The dual lite ev emergency light at my school was dead
Cool
pickle you stil haventt gotten the last smoke or heat detector for yout new system
No not yet
Nice Video! Maybe they should label the emirgincey light circuits more clearly?
What if the lights stay on all the time
The circuit is on as other lights on the same circuit are functioning properly
Here in Los Angeles, we call portables bungalows
Same in San Diego.
why can't you just turn off the main disconnect?
Because it’s a school so it’s not quite as simple as just turning it off it would be much easier if you could
That’s odd how the panel Isent labeled
So what is the purpose of this video again?
Entertainment to those that are interested in the maintenance that goes into emergency lighting
here at 30 mins
