Abuse is surprisingly normal in a lot of places, especially when it comes to a parent physically assaulting their kid for 'unacceptable behaviour', which is just an excuse really. The signs of abuse are subtle so often overlooked. I was neglected and starved for a while, but no one saw an issue until one teacher realised I wasn't eating at breaks. It took a few years before this symptom alone was seen.

We lost her in 2020. She was 74. I so wish there was a way for me to investigate and learn more. Her story could make for a horror movie. So many unbelievable things. So many mysteries. Such a tortured life…and she was a brilliant woman, the most loving mother I ever could have had. Many of her memories came back during counseling with our pastor when I was very young. She was in her early 40’s.

We were discussing the abuse I faced as a child with the therapist and my mom brought up a time my dad had pressed my face into the wooden floor with his knee for minutes so hard one side of my head was entirely purple. I was stunned listening to her, I could not remember ANY of this. Later on when I tried my hardest to think back to those days, I remember one morning putting on makeup for the first time to go to school and not knowing how to apply any of it. People like to play the Pain Game; comparing their struggles to others. An attempt to use their suffering to one up someone else, as if it's something to brag about.
I hate the Pain Game. I will never play it.
Your suffering may not be as "bad" or "intense" as someone else's in their opinion. But your suffering was real. It IS real. My best example is my menstrual cramps. Women try to compare their menstrual pain. I as a woman do not. I am aware that mine is extreme, but that's my normal. But what is MY normal, is NOT another woman's normal. I know that pain. And she is in pain. And I will use my familiarity to comfort her.
Your trauma may not be as "bad" as some may think. But did you go through it? Did you survive? Are you surviving now? You pushed through so much. And no one can take that away. Your trauma hurt you. Just like someone else's trauma hurt him/her.
Your pain is real. Your suffering happened. But your recovery will happen too.

Weird how I've come full circle here. I came back to RUclips as a way to distract myself from obsessive thoughts about my partially recovered memories of childhood abuse, etc. A few years ago, around age 30, I started to remember. It took over my life instantly. I couldn't focus on anything else no matter how hard I tried. Those puzzle pieces just kept falling into my lap and my brain was constantly working on putting them together. There were three main things here on YT that managed to hold my attention and get my mind off of the dark crap I had been suppressing for all those years: Creepypasta Narrations, Horror Game Playthroughs, and... SMOSH.
Now that I'm at a place where I'm ready to start looking into other people's stories that may be similar to mine... I find this one. I clicked, not even realizing what channel it was! It really made me incredibly happy to see Anthony giving a platform to RAMCOA survivors. There aren't many. As mentioned in the video, it's a topic that's SO very suppressed. It's hard for us to even find out more information about the types of things that may have happened to us or the people who most likely did them.

At the age of 53 she started remembering sexual abuse and rape from the age of 5/6 years old. It's been almost 4 years of her being in constant therapy and she's doing so well now. Children's brains are just so incredible, they're wired to self protect.

@@danbark4603 sure, but it's also true that the brain, as a coping mechanism to prevent you from constantly being in fear and pain, blocks out certain emotions and/or memories of traumatic events, so it is possible to be "numb", in a way, to those events or parts of them
It's also possible to become less affected by it when you talk about it over and over to therapists and interviewers. Maybe your brain becomes more used to it and it feels more like a story than reality. I don't know what the case is for her.

I, at about 8/9, recalled a memory of a girl (11/12) forcing me to kiss her neck under her bed whenever we went to their house. There was no traumatic feelings associated with it, it was just weird, but I remembered it and asked my mom about them. She indeed recalled the family and said the girl was weird. I told her what had happened and she said she was so sorry about that. That was just one, very minor, emotionally neutral memory so I cannot IMAGINE what she went through as the memories came. I was SA before the age of 10 by a family member and a piece of the memory would pop up at random times throughout my teen years, and I’d just push it away instinctively. I always thought it was some messed up dream.. I didn’t fully recover the memory until about over a decade later. It seriously f***ed me up cause I spent so long recovering from the emotional/verbal abuse by the same person, this was a whole new hurdle to get over.

(TW) This terrifies me right now. I’m at a point in therapy where I’m beginning to validate my experiences, and I have some similar type of memories that I still don’t know the full extent of. Just now reading all these comments, I am even becoming more aware just how much we are told that you can’t forget. I forgot some thing as “small“ as my mother saying “sorry is not good enough“ every time I would try to say I was sorry, even if it wasn’t my fault. The fact that I had suppressed that alone was extremely shocking to me when I recalled it because I wasn’t sure how I could forget something so “small“. Over time the other ones faded away and I thought the ones I could recall was the worst I had been through. It wasn’t the worst, it was just the ones my mind could handle living with and using as a means to give people a hint that I didn’t have a great childhood. You can absolutely block out anything I believe. The consciousness has an incredible survival system, and we haven’t been giving it enough credit.

I know I was physically attacked. I know what the threats were before it happened. I don’t need to remember the details.

I think it's the big difference between memories that come back spontaneously in fragments and memories that are suggested by bad therapists. It's been shown that it is absolutely possible to induce false memories in people by telling them something happened or by suggesting it strongly. Especially if it come from someone with authority. And the tragic thing is that the false memories absolutely feel real and are just as traumatic as real memories. But in your case, your memories came back spontaneously in fragments, so they actually came from your past and not from external suggestions.

I was raised in a cult, and while my childhood was absolutely nowhere near hers, a lot resonates. I'm so glad she started with "my life is good now". Like. When you are born into a house that's on fire, you assume that's how the whole world is, and coming out of that is absolutely one of the hardest things.
Forgiveness is a big one, and so, so difficult. That and radical acceptance. (DBT works wonders, folks. Trust me, trust Anthony and trust her. Just go to therapy. It really does get better.)
Radical acceptance is the mental action of "ok, this all happened to me, and it wasn't my fault, and I deserved none of it, but. But. It happened, and I couldn't do anything then, but I can accept my past happened while building me and a future I want."
It's weird. And it's not easy by any means to just accept your past, but, once you start accepting it, it's like you're also letting it go. And the more you accept and it is let go, the more free you feel. It's not going to magically fix everything, lmao noooo, but it does change the entire game for you.
And "crazy". If I had a penny...and what's really ridiculous is when you're in therapy, because childhood trauma can and does cause ✨️personality disorders✨️, people will claim to be there for you no matter what, until you show a symptom that you're sometimes completely unaware of, and then they call you crazy, horrible, ab*sive and more. Nothing hurts more than being reduced to what you're trying to fix because it was broken as a child.
I have BPD due to my past, and I've been dehumanized so many times. "You're not hurt, it's just your BPD."
"You don't know how to actually love. It's just your fixations of having an fp (favorite person) and your intense emotions."
It's really something to climb out and away from your past, get help, and still the world, and even your closest loved ones will hate you at some point.
So...to everyone, I know the saying is cliché, but everyone is fighting a battle you don't know about. To quote Sense8, "life doesn't always give us the chance to show our best selves."
Be kind. Love first. Give the benefit of the doubt to the Karen in Walmart. I'm not saying get involved, or something, but instead of being judgmental towards her (we can all admit we love a good Karen freakout, it's ok 😂), maybe shift your thoughts to why she's screaming and whatnot. What happened, or is happening and this was the last bit of willpower she had and she snapped?
Especially now, when everything is bonkers in this world is kindness from others, even if it's just shifting how you think.
I hope everyone finds their way to their healthy happiness. ❤

Proper treatment does work, regardless of what it is. Some take ketamine, some do DBT or CBT, other mood stabilizers and so on. As long as you put the effort in, the treatment absolutely works. For me it was DBT and Polyvagal. I'm not going to pretend I'm all healed, lmao nooo. But I know my work, and the work of others is not in vain, and we can live better. Happier. I wish you all the luck and love, friend! 💜💜🤟🏼🤟🏼 (Also, I'm proud of you. Very much so. We have so many wars we fight everyday, and therapy and meds can be a crazy mess to sort out. I'm proud of you for trying, even when every day is a war and you're trying to turn the tide of it. It's the hardest thing I've ever done, and I am so proud of others who, disorder, illness, whatever it is, that still try. That still get up in the morning. Even if it's to get up, brush your teeth, or grab some coffee and go right back to bed for the day. I'm proud of you. 💜)

My heart broke hearing the black man and the little girl. How can anyone do something so cruel?
How can anyone do that to their own child? I would die for my daughter. I cannot even fathom what these poor children and people had to endure at the hands of those monsters

You should see what some Christian parents have done to their kids.

5:30 she wanted to stay with the good people…the ones she knew would die. When I say, my soul broke for her and the other victims listening to this; I can’t even explain.

Her point about just being kind to children being able to save them made me cry. She’s so brave and kind.

Mary, you are such an inspirational woman. I have been taken advantage of physically and sexually so many times I've lost count and almost killed by past boyfriends and random men. I was a drug addict and now I am 6 years clean. Now I am in a good place in my life and have healed tremendously. There is always hope for survivors!

Anthony, I truly thank you for using your platform to showcase such stories.
You may not know how much it means to people like me
I thankfully was never in a cult, but I've endured childhood abuse.
So having felt one person's kindness shine a light in the dark when I needed it the most, really made me relate to her saying that you need to be kind to kids.
And be kind to everyone really, because you don't know whose inner child you may be healing or just whose bad day you're brightening.
