    Best match of the season so far, just nailbiting to the finish. Also, giving a music round about Hamilton to a bunch of college students in their 20s is just giving them 25 easy points.

    • @yediveren771
      @yediveren771 7 лет назад +4

      I think Hamilton the musical was on stage in New York but it has not been on stage in the UK yet. So how did they know the answers to those questions?

    • @Ramboost007
      @Ramboost007 7 лет назад +13

      There are many fans around the world who settle on just watching bootleg and pirated footage of the musical, plus they listen to the songs a lot.

    • @danielblanken4523
      @danielblanken4523 3 года назад +1

      In any case, that would be an easy 15 points, not 25. The starter has nothing to do with the bonus questions.

    Love everything about the first bonus on Irish counties:
    - UCL hopping round virtually every county and Cambridge college except the right one.
    - "What, County Pembroke? That's in Wales, I think, isn't it?"
    - UCL's reaction when told the right answer.

    Hope Trinity isn't too smug about its 15-point win, thanks to a lazy question-setter (Thomas Benson?) who couldn't be bothered to google 'musicals based on history/historical figures' for the bonuses. (My sympathies if you were peed off coz your last check bounced or wasn't in the mail :)
    Just ONE audio question yet all 25 points on the same source? It stands to reason that if a contestant knows the starter he'd know the following 3 bonus questions on the SAME current award-winning, record-breaking musical ...

      Study developments in the English language, and you'll see they are (apart from words that have appeared because of new technology or such) either infections from across the pond or because of illiteracy. E.g. the now widespread use of 'Wow' and 'awesome' among British English speakers.

    No one has been able to explain to me yet why universities with few tens of thousands of students cannot find teams to beat colleges of a few hundreds. It's mind boggling! On average I understand Oxbridge students could be better. But surely a large uni can find 4 people better than or as good as the best from a small college? I think UC shows the gulf between Oxbridge and the rest, including top unis like UCL and Imperial, which some people don't like to admit.

    • @LonDanDoc
      @LonDanDoc 7 лет назад +2

      sunway1374 it's cos they can. Have more shots at it . I guarantee you if you get the top ones from Oxbridge and put em up against unis like UCL and Imperial the scores will be lower for Oxbridge cos they'll have less knowledge to pool on

    • @Sebotway
      @Sebotway 6 лет назад +6

      There are many reasons, chief of which being that Oxbridge/Imperial/Durham/Warwick as well as a few others have much more of a history of competitive quizzing. Due to this, the perks of being in their respective quizzing teams are much higher ie sponsored transportation to tournaments, sponsored accommodation and sponsored entry fees. Not always the general rule, but this helps the quizzing societies to be much more attractive to potential participants.

    • @castelodeossos3947
      @castelodeossos3947 Год назад

      My own theory is that those teams chosen for UC, and who win, do so just as much because of the contestants' pre-university schooling as for their specialised university studies. And since it is more difficult to get into Oxbridge colleges from school, the students from those colleges have on average a higher level of schooling than those from universities that demand less from their applicants.

      Durham Harmonics choir
      UCL and Trinity Oxford aren't the only ones. Some other institutions are guilty of it since 2014 (Trinity, Cambridge who started the whole trend and Gonville and Caius who jumped on the Trinity bandwagon in their last three matches).
      Some, like King's College London, however only have one person who doesn't say their surname.

    • @adamwalker9796
      @adamwalker9796 7 лет назад

      Sandra27HK
      Yes, Gonville and Caius did first name intros...but they did full names for half their matches (the matches against St Anne's Oxford, Manchester, and their first meeting with Durham.)
      After their first match with Magdalen, then they did first name intros. Edinburgh have also done it last year and this year.
