I knew a guy who worked on the set for Rockford Files. He told me many times at the end of the day, when only the laborers were left after the shoot, James Garner would pull up with a trunk load of beer and they would all sit around and have a few. Great guy.
Loved James Garner from pre Maverick days. I can honestly say I grew up watching the best actors and personalities there ever were. This was my favorite of his comedy westerns support your local Sheriff and support your local gunfighter.
One of his best was Duel at Diablo with Sydney Poiter. He was a Korean War vet who received a round in his butt. He later joked with someone about the angle of the shot and why he received it in the rear. He said simply I was running as fast as I could but the bullet won the race. One of favorite all round actors who never played the bad guy
The only reason no one wants to wash dishes, serve food, cook, food, make beds, clean floors, do laundry, haul horseshit from the stables - is that they want to be in the hills prospecting for gold! Hard to argue against that . .
This movie is rich with clever one-liners and sexual innuendos. Terrific fun for the whole family to watch. Walter Brennan as old man Danby dealing with idiot sons is hilarious Jack Elam as Jake - and dupped marshal! Bruce Dern as cactus faced Joe Danby (tough-talking moron) Kathleen Freeman with her famous belly laughs too. Harry Morgan as mayor. And Joan Hackett as his ditzy daughter Prudy (Prudence) .

This man, in my humble opinion was definitely one of the best Actors in films, and also the Rockford Files, sadly now missed, R.I.P from UK.

Such an excellent actor, this film was one of his best in my opinion, Jack Elam was perfect for the part too.
Great movie. Loved it when Garner chased a gunslinger out of town by throwing rocks at him.
