Hamamatsu Audition. Am I good enough…??

Bach Prelude and fugue no. 21 in b flat major
Beethoven Op. 109 in e major. 1st and 2nd movements.
Chopin Etude Op. 10 no. 12 in c minor “revolutionary”
These are set requirements
A Bach prelude and fugue
A movement or two of a Beethoven sonata depending on the sonata.
An etude.
Hopefully i can perform in japan. Would be awesome!!!

The fugue lacks phrasing in my view, the voicing is there but the phrases lack shape for me. Articulation seems a little dictated by the difficulty of voicing, again the phrasing would improve this issue. The recording seems to compress your dynamics too, everything is coming out within a very slight dynamic spectrum which i suspect is not you but the recording setup. The Revolutionary seems a poor choice for an audition to me, so many more inyeresting Chopin Etudes of the same duration to select. Again, it lacks overall phrasing and the dynamics are much the same throughout. One of the first things panels listen for is the shape and execution of the opening repeated phrase. You strugle (like most pianists) with the right hand leaps in the initial statement. It is messy in the recording, but i agree with your approach that this statement must be exactly in time. The left can have some rubarto here but the right hand must be metronomic in the opening phrase. The left hand lacks finese through the awkward mid section, again you struggle to phrase where the unavoidable leaps are. Take care with the duration and articulation of the final two chords too as you seem to be in doubt of the note value of the final chord. Hands are noticeably out of synch in unison scale passages. I suggest cutting this Etude for another with more musicsl interest. The other c minor etude would be much more suitable but i siggest you have your favourites as we all do.

Yes the Bach and chopin aren’t quite there yet. Will need to do it again;) got a mentor helping me out though. So hard to get things to a really high standard😅

beethoven mov 1 is good but mov 2 could be faster and cleaner and more powerful

I prefer it a bit steadier the 2nd movement but thats subjective i guess. Def could be cleaner though;)
