WHY I CHOOSE a HARLEY DAVIDSON FXR over any other model!

  • THE Harley FXR... When there are so many other Harley Davidson options, why choose the discontinued FXR?? Watch as I take you through my reasoning for choosing this 1992 Harley FXR, which ultimately comes down to function, style, and performance.
    There are plenty of great Harleys to choose from, but for me, this bike lured me into the darkness. I appreciate the challenge - with a little TLC you can enjoy a unique, well balanced machine that will take through street corners with ease, or get just as low as some of the foreign rides...if you dare to try. Plus, the classic bike design remains a timeless piece of art.
    Some may argue that it's overrated, slow, and just an outdated bike, but I'd beg to differ. However, you can't argue that the FXR is an iconic bike in comparison to today's bikes.

      My friend have an 85 FXR an its an miracle bike with really rare services he trade it from the state in 98-99 and have 110000 miles on the clock,i had an 89 FXLR who also was an grait bike with no problems at all it run in all weather and took me everywhere,i was out of job and needed to sell my bike 18 years ago,4 years ago i trade an 92 FXDC from the state the bike had low milage and had been in an accident so i bay it from an auchon and trade it as an repair objckt but i had many problems with it alll from gearcase failiure to engine danmage,the gearcase i beleve was an bearing who was bad,the engine bigins with cam bearing failiour they started in 1990 to use cheaper bearings to take down the cost so they start to use needle bearings with plastic frame inside instead of solid needles,so i warn out the pinion gear and cam gear,and there the nightmare begins,i bayed an new cam an ev 27 who seems to ned green coded pinion gear,from 1990-1992/93 Harley Davidson had an diffrend pinion on their evo big twins the shaft wasent cone anymore it was straight and the pinion gear was driven from an key whos also driven the oil pump with an spacer between,the gear it self was an combo between early gears and those last ones,early caouse they use the old nut with two flats who was buried inside the gear and the last models shaft with staight axel driven by the key...so the green gear was out of stock and was not made aftermarked ether,i was lucke enogh to find one gear on ebay after some guy had been on an swap meet and bay it from him,so remember all folks who owns an 1990-1992/93 Harley Davidson evo big twin,see if the cam bearing is changed and make sure if you want to give the engine an other cam to see what colour coded pinion gear you need,and make sure if this is in stock or else it can ruin the houl season for you,it took me nearly 4-5 months to get mine and it was only my detective work on ebay who paid.
      After all me and my fellow friends who drives evo big twin had descoss why those early evos (1984/85-1990) is so much better than those late models who started from 1990/91-99/00 ?
      It seems that those first evos was mate more bulled proof and in when the 80ts ended they start to save money on the factorys using cheaper parts....

    I bought my 1990 FXR with no issue... until the year after I bought it (2021) I blew both base gaskets and a head gasket. Had lots of carb issues, recently had all the sprocket bolts sheared off and found the rear axle was stuck. It has been one heck of a ride. Love the bike when I don't have to be working on it.

    Bought a 1990 FXR about the same bike i had years before only the first FXR had double disks in front. Bike never let me down and i put 1,5 ton on top of the 40.000 that was on it when i bought it. That was the reason for me to get one again . The '90 FXR had some oil leak problem in the nosecone but i fixed it Last Sathurday. New seal and gasket did the trick. Got some rust on the frame upfront and a bit corrosion on the engine top. So it looks horrible but she runs great. I am gonna ride like it is and get to know the bike first. Then next year i am gonna take the engine out and do a frame powdercoat and fix the corrosion problem on the evo topend. These are cool bikes and handles real good but they are not that fast anymore. But thats oke for us 60+ guys. See you on the road one day............

    I mean they built it, especially the lowrider version to compete with the Japanese metric cruisers. They were trying to make something more like a metric cruiser. I could handle better and stuff. Those old first generation shadows are actually great. Bikes really great bikes man. Shadows are great bikes in general people just don't give Honda enough credit or any of the imported. Cruisers, yes, they'll never compete with the heritage and nostalgic feel Harley's, but they definitely beat them when it comes to performance

    The frame makes it so FXRs are a fine base for a functional Harley. The old solid mount frame classics are beautiful pieces of industrial design but nothing can look that good while having rubber engine mounts so for function FXR wins. I urge anyone interested to just go get one rather than piddling around looking for their dream version. Go BUILD that dream version. Harleys are so easy because they're extremely low-tech which is a good thing. Don't pay too much and be willing to drive for a deal, or just buy a clear titled frame (mid teens to maybe two grand if it's freshly painted or powder coated) and fill it with the big twin and gearbox (late model spline shaft bagger box with integral oil bag preferred if running an Evo or Shovel) of your choice. Twin Cams are basically a drop in with minor mods and an M8 doesn't take much if you want even more HP.

    Does the FXR go by any names example Dyna goes by FXD?

    • @freebirdsgarage
      @freebirdsgarage  3 года назад +1

      Yes, some models for example are FXRS, FXRT, FXRDG, and FXRP. But FXR is the their official model name followed by letters that correspond to the model. Like FXRS is the low rider model of the FXR.
