Surgical Strikes Mark Departure From India's Typical Strategic Restraint

The "surgical strikes" conducted by India on terrorists preparing to infiltrate from Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir inflicted significant casualties and mark a huge departure from the policy of strategic restraint India has shown over the last few years in the face of deadly terror attacks from across the border. The strikes are being seen as the first major military action taken by India after terrorists from Pakistan crossed into an army camp in Uri in Kashmir earlier this month. 18 soldiers were killed in that attack, one which Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said would "not go unpunished."
