For it to be well done, it has to lead up to it. Help us understand the argument as to why gays or blacks can full stop never, ever appear in the game, then? I hate the Henry retcon, that's my issue with it, and with the way the studio has handled all of us I think has put me off of buying what I was looking forward to more than anything perhaps permanently, but certainly temporarily. Is it that gays shouldn't be a part of the game, that Henry shouldn't be (which I believe) or what? Different people have different takes, there doesn't seem to be a unified message from the gooner gaters besides what comes off as a "no gay period" policy.
The actual gooner gaters are religious zealots who think that being gay is a horrible sin. It's stupid and makes it harder to take them seriously. Henry in KCD2 shouldn't be gay because it's a retcon but gay people still existed in the medieval times. But most of them would probably just lie to themselves about it or, at the very least, not admit it to anyone, so there's not really a point of putting it in the game. The same kind of goes for black folks in medieval times. It's theoretically possible for an african guy to walk all the way to europe, but most of the foreigners you would have seen are probably from the middle east and not from africa. And even then, the probability of meeting someone from the middle east or africa was so low that there's no real reason to bother putting it in the game at all. You could do it well but it would still come of as representation and pandering. People are just tired of that because gay, black, trans and non binary characters that don't really fit the setting have been shoved down everybody's throats way to much in resent years.

I don't mind them giving gamers the option. As long as it is not forced upon us. I have not played the game, yet but from my understanding you have multiple romance options. Nothing is required. (Correct me if I am wrong) I want woke out of games as much as anyone. But lets make sure we don't become too rigid in our demands.

While I can see your points about the length of the tutorial, I disagree that it should be changed to fall within some arbitrary time limit related to refunds. The length is the length, end of. There are a million ways this day and age to determine whether or not you want to buy a game, you even mentioned one yourself in watching RUclipsrs. Well, in fairly aut ist ic detail: It was still woke back then. People groaned and talerated it back then because it was easier to ignore back then. If anything the argument could be made that passiveness was the start of the slippery slope. There are a few reasons why ppl are ticked off now. For starters, the past 5 or so years now is this stuff got way out of hand, and constantly bombarding people with stuff no one cared about. At the same time the quality of gaming took a nose dive as woke was pushed to the forefront. This happened in the entire culture, not just games. People eventually snapped and said "ENOUGH!1 WE DON'T WANT THIS!" All this is how we got S Squad, Concord, Dustborn, and a slew of other games where this trash was forced on players. Yet, since everyone is sick of all this trash, all those games failed. As those woke games failed, players were attacked by the studies and journalists for not wanting any of their slop. KCDII is at the crossroads of all this. Most people here are so sick of anything perceived as woke, WE WANT ANY AND ALL TRACE OF IT REMOVED. Story doesn't end there, and you have to look at Vavra leading Warhorse. The first KCD game out, Vavra pushed back against woke critic. He stated over and over "You play as Henry. You are not paying as your self. SO you an only do what Henry would do as you play" as well as "there ere no black people in medieval Bohemia" over and over. Slowly, rumors spread about the game being banned in Saudi Arabia because of male romance. Then leaks about the African doctor came out. People got concerned, because of years of pattern recognition from gams mentioned earlier. People started to speak out on these red flags, and Vavra and the studio responded very harshly. Following the pattern of woke studios. They were trying to insist it was player choice, and wasn't banned in Saudi Arabi. That goes against the "you play as Henry a good christian boy" narrative they used for the first game, and that Henry is his own character not the player. Then the game got banned in Saudi Arab. So the outrage comes from a sense of a bait and switch from: Henry is an established character, Vavra going against previous statements about the frst game, attacking the players, and just general lying and being shady. I wrote waaaay to many essays in University....
Different kinds of RPG Mass Effect: you create the character from scratch. You choose everything from sex, appearance, background etc, you choose what he/she is KCD: you take control of an existing character (like Geralt). You choose his actions , butnot what he is. Henry is (or was) a son of a blacksmith and a straight white male living in 15th century Czech Shepard is whatever you want him/her to be. Also, setting. Mass Effect is set in the far future, KCD, the far past. Very different cultures etc. On top of that, Mass Effect was honest from the start. KCD has fundamentally altered their protagonist in the sequel.

I would also add that the term "woke" didn't exist when Mass Effect 1 was released. Not in it's current form, or in what people remember as it's roundly mocked progressive form. I started to see it widely used around 2019. Then it exploded in use in the years that followed. I see the difference as mainly being that people didn't see the choices as part of a wider agenda then. Though now they do. With good reason. The agenda is a requirement of woke. Simply being gay or bi isn't in and of itself "woke" Though some don't seem to want to understand that. Games like KCD and Witcher are their own kind of RPG. They aren't like Baldur's Gate, Fallout, Elders Scrolls, Mass Effect where you create the character from scratch and determine almost everything about them as a person. Henry and Geralt are their own persons. You take control of their actions, but not what they are. They are not bisexual or Schrodinger's straight/gay. In this case, they are both straight. "It's optional" does not work here. I get it, KCD was a brilliant game and KCD2 will likely follow suit (since it is basically the exact same game, engine etc.) but do not allow your love of a franchise to ignore the creeping wokeness. This is how it - the complete ruination of your favourite franchise- always begins. You need to nip that shit in the bud.

He lied and tried to obfuscate what was actually in the game. Had none of the rumors or leaks come out, he would've never spoke about it. If he had just said 'we are trying to reach a larger audience, everything is optional and you don't need to engage in content you don't want to, it's an rpg;' people would've been far more receptive. For it to lead up to it, the 'gayness' (for want of a better term) has to be somewhat in the air before you, the player, makes the choice for Henry to be gay (as if choosing to be gay even makes sense...)
And in the end, it can't be well done anyway because Henry is his own person. You control his choices but not what he is ...or at least that was the case until Warhorse got taken over

Help us understand the argument as to why gays or blacks can full stop never, ever appear in the game, then? I hate the Henry retcon, that's my issue with it, and with the way the studio has handled all of us I think has put me off of buying what I was looking forward to more than anything perhaps permanently, but certainly temporarily. Is it that gays shouldn't be a part of the game, that Henry shouldn't be (which I believe) or what? Different people have different takes, there doesn't seem to be a unified message from the gooner gaters besides what comes off as a "no gay period" policy.

The actual gooner gaters are religious zealots who think that being gay is a horrible sin. It's stupid and makes it harder to take them seriously. Henry in KCD2 shouldn't be gay because it's a retcon but gay people still existed in the medieval times. But most of them would probably just lie to themselves about it or, at the very least, not admit it to anyone, so there's not really a point of putting it in the game. The same kind of goes for black folks in medieval times. It's theoretically possible for an african guy to walk all the way to europe, but most of the foreigners you would have seen are probably from the middle east and not from africa. And even then, the probability of meeting someone from the middle east or africa was so low that there's no real reason to bother putting it in the game at all. You could do it well but it would still come of as representation and pandering. People are just tired of that because gay, black, trans and non binary characters that don't really fit the setting have been shoved down everybody's throats way to much in resent years.

While I can see your points about the length of the tutorial, I disagree that it should be changed to fall within some arbitrary time limit related to refunds. The length is the length, end of. There are a million ways this day and age to determine whether or not you want to buy a game, you even mentioned one yourself in watching RUclipsrs. At some point, the consumer needs to take responsibility for their purchase and do the vasic bitch research.

Well, in fairly aut ist ic detail:
It was still woke back then. People groaned and talerated it back then because it was easier to ignore back then. If anything the argument could be made that passiveness was the start of the slippery slope.
There are a few reasons why ppl are ticked off now.
For starters, the past 5 or so years now is this stuff got way out of hand, and constantly bombarding people with stuff no one cared about. At the same time the quality of gaming took a nose dive as woke was pushed to the forefront. This happened in the entire culture, not just games. People eventually snapped and said "ENOUGH!1 WE DON'T WANT THIS!" All this is how we got S Squad, Concord, Dustborn, and a slew of other games where this trash was forced on players. Yet, since everyone is sick of all this trash, all those games failed. As those woke games failed, players were attacked by the studies and journalists for not wanting any of their slop.
KCDII is at the crossroads of all this.
Most people here are so sick of anything perceived as woke, WE WANT ANY AND ALL TRACE OF IT REMOVED.
Story doesn't end there, and you have to look at Vavra leading Warhorse. The first KCD game out, Vavra pushed back against woke critic. He stated over and over "You play as Henry. You are not paying as your self. SO you an only do what Henry would do as you play" as well as "there ere no black people in medieval Bohemia" over and over.
Slowly, rumors spread about the game being banned in Saudi Arabia because of male romance. Then leaks about the African doctor came out. People got concerned, because of years of pattern recognition from gams mentioned earlier. People started to speak out on these red flags, and Vavra and the studio responded very harshly. Following the pattern of woke studios. They were trying to insist it was player choice, and wasn't banned in Saudi Arabi.
That goes against the "you play as Henry a good christian boy" narrative they used for the first game, and that Henry is his own character not the player.
Then the game got banned in Saudi Arab.
So the outrage comes from a sense of a bait and switch from: Henry is an established character, Vavra going against previous statements about the frst game, attacking the players, and just general lying and being shady.

Different kinds of RPG
Mass Effect: you create the character from scratch. You choose everything from sex, appearance, background etc, you choose what he/she is
KCD: you take control of an existing character (like Geralt). You choose his actions , butnot what he is.
Henry is (or was) a son of a blacksmith and a straight white male living in 15th century Czech
Shepard is whatever you want him/her to be.
Also, setting. Mass Effect is set in the far future, KCD, the far past. Very different cultures etc.
On top of that, Mass Effect was honest from the start. KCD has fundamentally altered their protagonist in the sequel.

I would also add that the term "woke" didn't exist when Mass Effect 1 was released. Not in it's current form, or in what people remember as it's roundly mocked progressive form.

It wasn't adopted as a pejorative until years later. I started to see it widely used around 2019. Then it exploded in use in the years that followed.
I see the difference as mainly being that people didn't see the choices as part of a wider agenda then. Though now they do. With good reason.

I romanced Liara because that was my choice. I did notice the male romance option as well, and even know I didn't chose it I wasn't bitching online about it either. Only thing I bitched about was the ME3 ending. I still have this opinion that it's just an option that you don't have to choose, and if you really groan and moan and complain so much, then maybe, just maybe, lowkey. You may be a homophobe. Games like KCD and Witcher are their own kind of RPG.
They aren't like Baldur's Gate, Fallout, Elders Scrolls, Mass Effect where you create the character from scratch and determine almost everything about them as a person. Henry and Geralt are their own persons. You take control of their actions, but not what they are. They are not bisexual or Schrodinger's straight/gay. In this case, they are both straight. "It's optional" does not work here.
I get it, KCD was a brilliant game and KCD2 will likely follow suit (since it is basically the exact same game, engine etc.) but do not allow your love of a franchise to ignore the creeping wokeness. This is how it - the complete ruination of your favourite franchise- always begins. You need to nip that shit in the bud.
