what is really entertaining to watch is the creative re-use and recycling of old parts, but the whole master brake system solution was a masterpiece of creative tinkering and cobbling... what I am learning is, when I run into a problem is to just keep going and figure stuff out as you go..... eventually you find the answer... ( and it helps a lot if you have the deeeeeeeep knowledge that James has !! lol ) really good program here.... thanks for doing these !!!!
Watching your videos makes me realize that old cars are kinda like Lego. As long as you can find or make the pieces, you are only limited by imagination to make stuff work.
I like the hydro-boost bracket hack! Real inspiration for those of us who want to get the job done, and not just feed the few custom shops pocketbooks...
In case it's not obvious, power steering pumps for hydroboost and non hydroboost systems for GM and Jeep are identical it's just the tanks (one return vs two). You can buy a two return tank and toss it on the good pump, don't forget the gasket.
Your outcome is surely a feat of determination , finesse and solid effort..! The gamut of reassembly , transplant , modified goodies and repairs has delivered your jalopy to the bullpen....now you need a break..! Congrats..! Hope your finish is soon...
LBG, when I worked downrange in the 80s we had some cool work rigs among them was a Air Force blue J10, an M37, A couple crewcab W200's I loved the old Dodge's, but that J10 drove really well had the cursed 360 that the motorpool dude's could never get to run right always starved for fuel, I brought a fuel regulator down for one trip and slapped it on. If you wanna sell that rig id love to cross country it from Az to Ar ive always wanted a 300 straight 6 with a five speed in a FSJ haha. Coollest snap ring pliers ever!
The previous owner told me that he could never get the 360 running right, either. I really didn't want to put that motor back in, I was kind of glad when there were casting flaws in the block and I had to re-power it.
Use an alternator from a 7.3l powerstroke, the 130 amp model. It's interally regulated and a nice upgrade. The superduty hydroboost is a nice unit also.
Caution: These Jeep trucks came with wimpy alternators (mine, a '74) has a 37 amp output. The alternator output wire on these trucks runs to the ammeter in the dash, and then back to the (I believe) starter solenoid. THAT wire is not sized for large output alternators. That's why he mentioned that these trucks have a reputation of catching on fire wiring-wise. All that said, I believe he has bypassed that ammeter wire, so he is good. If you do this yourself just be aware of not overheating that ammeter wire. The generally recognized solution is to indeed bypass that ammeter wire like he did but use the ammeter wire to power a voltmeter that replaces the ammeter in the dash. There are Tube solutions for that out there.
Where I live: good interiors and plastics (if you keep the Mice out of it) but everything is rusted to pieces. Where he lives: the total opposite! We should look in our yards to see if we could combine something
"Something in this pile is doing what I want"... " ..let's connect those two in a non-leaky fashion.." Love your Videos. They give me loads of T-shirt Text to sell and a lot of fun to watch (& learn by accident)
You are very good at affro engineering!!! I only know of one guy that was comparable to you but he’s in the ground now. He helped me build two Jeeps and a lot of other projects. I am not a ford fan but they made the biggest in line six of anybody.
Use tubbing with the id the same as the tubbing od that needs straightening, slice lengthwise 2 pcs clamp bent tube between the to pcs will fix problem.
I have been enjoying your content! In the background is your barrel wind turbine, do you have a video for it? Or could you do an overview of it, please?
Thanks! Those hoses do look pretty crusty, even worse up close. They were in direct sunlight for a few decades, so I'll be replacing them before I get it on the road...
@@larryalexander4833 Yeah, I was thinking that, too. After I finished the video, I tried cracking the bleeders. There wasn't any pressure buildup, the lines were flowing freely, and the brakes were still stuck on. I think they stuck because of junk inside the calipers. I'll pull those apart and replace the lines, too. Then it might actually have brakes that work properly!
Am I crazy that for my Dad's 2014 Ford van I bought actual Motorcraft coolant versus the "Universal" stuff that says it's compatible with Ford? I don't think so, although the price is higher, I know with absolute certainty that there won't be any negative reaction between differing incompatible coolants!
I've been skipping around binge watching since I subscribed. Where can I get a Low Buck shirt? I'd really like to have an embroidered patch. (I collect those)
Mud wasps got into the pitot tube {static air pressure) on my airplane. That means no air speed indication. Had to fly like that for a few weeks until I go it cleared out. Made for more fun on takeoff and landings. Who needs instruments anyway.
Everbodies heft gut gudd grandma writing in dis chunnall. I totally dig your philosophy tho dude. Use everything within reach to build a way to reach father. Vere cleffer!
Thanks! People would probably be shocked, but mostly because the car would be pieced together from junk parts and have no brakes! I'll just have to keep doing this kind of thing...
there's a 100 ways to do this better... why hack brakes?= someone's lives.. you might say its ok for me , what about the family of five you kill over The I'm cheap mentality???
While I'm sorting a vehicle out, its just low speed back roads and dirt trails. I don't go near traffic until I have it working right and I know that its safe.
"A hundred bucks for brakes seems alittle excessive"- A man who speaks the language of my people!!!
Your engineering solutions are very entertaining , and a enjoy to watch
Thanks, glad you like it!

You are the master of the cobble job, the cobble jobs from my youth were much more primitive.
Definitly one of the best channels on YT. Love the dry humour. I'd call that a win! 😄😄😎😎
Dude's got mad skills for fabrication.
hands down the best problem solving fabricator have ever seen-and thats saying something. i am no slouch at it myself
You certainly have a wealth of knowledge, to make all those components work is nothing short of a miracle 👍☮️
Thanks!
nice to see your keeping the truck original
Fantastic! One of your best videos. I sure love that old truck. (Trying not to drool)
I brought a roll of paper towels....but leave me some.
Thank you!
I've got a Ford F600 project that needs a new booster, and thanks to what I learned from you, I see a conversion to a Hydroboost in my future.
HI , you always come up with a way to fix your problem I have faith in you .good luck .
Thanks!
Dude I am impressed, you make shit look so easy. I get aggravated and sling stuff. I wish I had your know how.
Thanks, I sure appreciate that!

Right on, thanks for the update on this build! Love the make it work with what's available philosophy

I have just found your channel and I'm really enjoying watching you work on your projects. I really hope you keep bringing us along on your endeavors
"I found the problem with the starter, the problem is the starter" LOL I love this man's humor.🤣🤣
T-shirt idea: Low buck garage logo on the back, and "We love mud wasps" on the front. Great video, sweet J-10.
Thanks! I like the idea, but I might substitute a different word for "love"...
That is awesome. Your way of working on parts is awesome
Thanks 👍

Thanks 👍 I'm working on a couple of other things while I gather parts for the next step on this truck, but that will be coming soon!
Our 1977 Ford wagon had the hydra boost system. Good luck finding one in a wrecking yard.
This guys mind and mechanical skill is Amazing!
I think I have seen you make more bushings on this channel than any other. Nice. I also make a lot of bushings.
They are incredibly handy!
Your videos are great so are the projects!

Thanks, I wish I had some of your snow, but not the cold that goes with it!

Excellent video,

I've been thinking about doing a video on tools and shop stuff, I'll include that wind turbine in it.
I love your shop it is like mine. A total cluster. lol🛠

Thanks! Those hoses do look pretty crusty, even worse up close. They were in direct sunlight for a few decades, so I'll be replacing them before I get it on the road...
@@LowBuckGarage mainly I was thinking the rubber hoses usually break down inside and clog up and cause the breaks to fail or lockup ,like yours .

I really miss my J-300
I am really excited now, momma didn't raise any fools in that end of the house
Those dirt dobbers have actually crashed an airplane from filling up the pitotstatic tubes. The had no instruments and crashed at night.
Like that truck! :-)
I bet that foam was leak stop.
What's the number to that external voltage regulator..??
I don't know the number, but I found it on ebay. Just look up "Ford One Wire Alternator"
🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍
Two years later watched. Again...
nice work all most there lol
Thanks 👍
I'd like to buy that jeep truck have you tossed around the idea of selling it. Just want a back road rig an ranch buggy
