- I made a mindblowing discovery about the banana sound effect in Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. It's actually the Koopa shell kicking noise from the original NES Super Mario Bros sped up! Is it an intentional easter egg, or a coincidence? You be the judge!
I also included the banana sounds from Rare's Donkey Kong Country trilogy on the SNES so that you can compare them to the sounds in Retro Studio's duology. As you can hear, DKC2 and DKC3 share the same noise.
The banana sound in DKC Returns is interesting in that it plays the same sound a second time at a higher pitch as the banana counter goes up. I'm not sure why they removed that in Tropical Freeze.
I never would have noticed that! Wow!
They used that sound effect in a DKC TV show episode.
Always had a feeling but never delved deep enough to confirm it for myself! Nice find!
DKC 1 Snes sound like the selection sound from Switch System
H-how do you just discover that? Did you just have a hunch and decide to slow down the banana collecting sound or did you have some slow down moment happen to you when playing?
0:16 - Seems more similar in Tropical Freeze than Returns, but not by much. Interesting how the Country sounds are nothing like the Returns or Tropical Freeze banana collecting sounds.
I was messing around with clips I recorded of Tropical Freeze in a video editor, and I just so happened to slow down the banana collecting sound. When I heard the slowed down sound, I was like "WAIT A MINUTE..."
That’s amazing
What about Donkey Kong 64?
This might be coincidental because I always thought the DKC Returns and Tropical Freeze banana sounds were meant to replicate the banana sound effect from DKC1.
I actually never knew that
