- Timelapse build of a 12x24 lean to structure for storage. All lumber used in this project is from trees felled on my property and processed with the Wood-Mizer LT15 sawmill. Had a lot of fun with this quick build and I will link to additions as I continue to add to it. Rough price breakdown is listed at the end. Thanks for watching!

I don't know about ya'll, but I finally felt some relief when you cut the branches, lol.....nice build
Very nice build man! Pleasure to watch. You gave me some nice ideas for my next shed build.
Never thought I would run into a video with someone else who owns a JD 850, lean to looks really good!
@Grady_OBS Yessir! I bought it off a farmer who was the original owner since 1985. Barn kept, 1400hrs and only used with the belly mower. I use it for a little bit of everything and love that machine!
Very cool, nice build, love the bucket idea!
Great job.
Those buckets are gonna be a hot bed for moisture and rot. Water has no way out unless you drilled some holes in the bottom of the buckets. That being said I think it's a cool build.
@@oldaxehead655 Thanks for the comment. Solid point. Little late now to drill holes underneath but I did round off the concrete so most of the rain rolls off. I did also silicone to try and keep it watertight. I’ve started adding slab wood as siding so the footers are mostly protected now.
Very cool!
Put angle braces in all the upper connections....walls to roof.....and wherever there is a corner.......
He doesn't need them. He notched his posts and the framing sits inside each one. Very strong. The foundation tho...
Can you put screw eye bolts in the ground and cable the lean-to to them? Like others have pointed out, just seems like a 288 sqft sail in high winds. Tractor Supply has heavy duty screw eye bolts. Otherwise looks like a great job. Thank you for sharing.
That's super nice. 😊
Looks like some post anchors would suffice. Depending on the slab thickness etc. Easier and could still can be easily dismantled.
Columbia/TC gas line runs through my farm, the representative told me someone built a house on top of the line because they had a narrow lot and TC had no choice but tear the house down to repair the pipe. It’s an easement so technically nothing was owed but they got something like 10k which hardly covers anything. Don’t build over the pipe!
Nice job. Looks great.
I am not sure how a utility company gets away with telling you that you cannot dig on your property. All utility companies are required to come mark their utility lines, on your property, if you request it. Once the utility lines are marked, you can dig as long as you avoid digging near the marked lines.
If you do not request the lines be marked, before you dig, then you become responsible for the repair cost, if you damage a utility line. I have one property with multiple utilities running along a utility easement. I am still allowed to dig by hand, in that area, but because that section has multiple lines, I cannot use a machine to dig in that area.
Most utility lines are supposed to be buried at specific minimum depths. I’ve seen those minimums ignored many times. Never assume a marked line meets minimum depth standards. I’ve see telephone lines as swallow as two inches, because of erosion along the sides of roads. I had one property where the cables were completely exposed.
Basically, call before you dig, so you are not the responsible party.
In 2025, most buried old copper telephone lines in this country are going to be abandoned. The cost to maintain those old copper can no longer be justified. Everything is going fiber or over-the-air for rural areas.
I realize your project is complete, but thought I would post this information for others, planning a similar project.
@jacklabloom635 Thanks for the info sir, very helpful! They're definitely marked clearly and they have the depth of the line listed right on the markers 14-20". No one has told me anything, I'm just going off word of mouth from what a neighbor was told years ago. I'm sure I could call and get a definitive answer, but I prefer to make the least amount of noise possible. Ask for forgiveness not permission and use common sense lol. I plan on building a larger pole building in the woods behind this structure and when planning how to get utilities over there I will reach out to them. Your info will also be helpful so much appreciated.
Humm that looks like the one that I had.
Nice work, i really like you took the time to notch all your posts, its a superior way of contruction, very strong. The foundation tho?? Guess the structure is meant to be moved in the future?
Yes, no permanent footers on the easement. I've started loading it down with slab wood from my sawmill. It's already withstood a few storms with 15+mph winds. Didn't budge.
@@TheFixerPupper Sweet! Makes perfect sense. Judging by the construction method you chose, I'd say if it did ever flip in a storm, it would stay in one peice! Well done.
The list in the buckets works good ?
@@mulekicker-ut5jl So far so good after a month. It’s withstood a few storms without budging or any cracks in the concrete. I did round the top of the forms so water can’t pool and saturate down into the footer.
Was the bucket creeping when you were standing in it
Yup, on the to do list to replace the hydraulic lines on the loader. Kept things exciting.
Love this idea. Have been thinking of doing something similar. I am also in a wooded area.
For something like this, are you doing anything to fight against or deter critters?
Any issues with rodents/snakes/wasps etc?
@@KB42285 Nice! So it’s only been up for a month and a half, so I haven’t had any issues with critters yet. I use all of those machines pretty regularly so I’m not sure there’s time for them to make a home. In the winter I always throw scented dryer sheets anywhere that I think critters may want to shack up. The leanto backs up to a mountain of boulders that were dug out when they put in the gas line. A family of foxes live in there and I always watch them hunt mice, groundhogs and birds. Good for rodent control, not so good for my chickens. Next video will be a mobile chicken coop build. For wasps I’ve seen people put up fake wasp nests. They’re territorial and won’t build their nest near another.
Gunna wish you had made it bigger.
@Mrjjpalmer Already considering extending it.
And then double the expansion plans@TheFixerPupper
I like your tractor. What brand and model?
@raymondpalacios3032 I have a 1985 John Deere 850 and a 2003 Kubota BX2200.
@@TheFixerPupper very nice. Thank you.
Should be great until a wind storm destroys it. How is it even braced?
He notched all his posts, the horizontals fit into the verticals, so its already braced.
Do you happen to have a material list for this?
23:37
All milled lumber?
Yessir.
@@TheFixerPupper awesome. I need to get to milling and build some more structures.
@@Robbinsfarm21 Just subbed you. Look forward to watching your progress! Do you have a sawmill?
@@TheFixerPupper yes sir. Woodland mills hm126. Had it over a year and hadn’t had much time to use it while I was building our house
@@Robbinsfarm21 Awesome. Would love to see some footage of the home build. I'm sure you have a stack of logs ready to be milled, just have to find the time and energy. I try to get through one or two a night and stack it to start the air drying process. Rough cut dimensional beams would look awesome in your build. Just gotta get it cut so it can start drying!
Buckets and no braces?
Lmao.....alright.
Right. 18"x18"x6" forms. Mark 3-4-5 square and pull a line level. Pour pads with post socket. And cut your post on sawhorses not vertical on a ladder.
