I was stationed at pirmasens from 1977 thru 1979 with the 76th Trans Company. I met my wife there when she came to see her brother who was my Sargeant. I loved pirmasens. Played many of fast pitch softball there. My name is Carl Gavin. This place will always hold a special place in my heart. Thanks for the video.

Lived there as an Army Brat from 1971 to 1973 in the NCO quarters (bldg 4500 4th floor). What a great place to live and play as a 10-12 year old! Thanks for the walk down memory lane!

I was there also from 1970 to 1973 as a brat. My dad was a Major then. I can't remember the name of the street we lived on. 4th floor though. Woods in the backyard, larger apartment buildings across the street and a playground behind them. Right down the street from the heliport. I used to love going to the hobby shop to do crafts on weekends and the movie theater on post for $1.00 movies. There was a place we used to buy a stack of comic books for $1.00 too, can't remember where. They were all used but I miss having them.

Born and raised in Pirmasens, i worked as a paramedic for the German Red Cross. I sometimes visited the "Kaserne" with the ambulance to take injured GI`s to Landstuhl Hospital.

Great video! I was stationed there from June 60' to Dec. 62',"A co. 79th Engineer Battalion. Had some fabulous times at the Atlantic Bar and the Church Bar(actually in basement of a church).Went TDY all over Germany, building roads, missile sites, runways and also demolishing former WW2 buildings and airfields. At that time, the German Mark was 4.25 to the U S Dollar. A Parkbrau beer was 1 mark! Loved Pirmasens!

Do you remember drinking beer from the "Boot"? You had to turn it sIdeways or else it would splash back in your face! Great times! Hooray for Parkbrau! I was actually filmed there for a German TV show while dancing! Really great memories!@@helgadye1125

@@andycharles6921 Yes, of course I remember.

It's now a university town. US Army family apartments were converted into student hostels.
I studied there from 2006-2011 and lived in an old US army apartment at Saarstrasse . Beautiful memory and beautiful city.

I knew a lot of Americans who had young children. The children always learned to speak German before their parents did, especially if they lived off base and played with German kids. Thanks for taking time to reply. Always nice to hear from someone who loves Pirmasens.

I was there in 1977-78 I was an MP in the 636 Ordinance Co Our barracks was the four story building that had an aviation beacon on a platform on the roof Believe it or not we would go up to the fourth floor where our rec room was, climb out a window and make our way up to that platform We would do this at night There we would sit and smoke hash! Hey I know it was a stupid thing to do but we were 18-19 year olds I’m 62 now and there’s no way in hell I would do such a thing today But brother, what a view it was!!!

My Dad was a Sargent - Signal Corps. Dad, Mom, Sis, and I lived there in dependent quarters 1953 - 1955. A bunker from the war was still in the back yard. The memories still at 73 very alive.
