If the student is on the unlimited meal plan family members can be swiped in for free. One of our kids goes, and we live close by so :) the street food counter is delicious, some of their stuff is from local restaurants
Coming from Amherst, us high schoolers would sneak into their dining commons for the best food….then I went to RISD, and RISD (at the time) was ranked #1 best dining commons
Kosher keeping student here. Sadly UMass has an extremely limited kosher selection and the food is noticably lower quality a lot of the time. Some days it is really good but sometimes the only option is a vegan chicken patty with the texture of rubber or something similarly heinous.
I don’t go to UMass, but I am in high school right near there and I’ve had the food at the dining Commons before and it’s really good. They also have sushi.
I go to a school next door with just fine food, and its so annoying how eveyone here complains about the food not being as good as UMass, when umass literally has the Best college food in the country 😂
I used to love eating there growing up as a kid. Haven’t been there in years though. I had a family member work there and also attended a summer camp (which included food accommodations via the dining hall).
It's only on one day, and the quality is ok. Like it's the best dining hall meal, but it's not nearly as good as restaurant quality. It's like a 50$ meal for one day a year

Even in general it’s hard to find a seat in any dining hall when it’s busy. The school is overcrowded on purpose and they even have double rooms that were converted to triples
It’s very mid tbh. The lobster is ok, but the steak is always tough and over cooked. Also, most of the meals are only good when new students are visiting, but they cut down options on the weekend and tend do cheaper/blander foods
Found one in the shower last year and on a doorway, and on a tree and a sink… moral of the story don’t give 18-22 year olds an unlimited supply of lobsters.
That is true but it’s A LOT better than many other universities, I’ve got a kid at Northeastern and one at UMass Amherst and the Northeastern dining halls suuuuuuck
