  • Hi guys,
We started our journey in Hokkaido and then traveled down to Tokyo. From Tokyo, we headed to the underrated Kanazawa. We explored Kanazawa on foot, clocking over 20,000 steps daily. The best way to explore a place is by foot. Our first day in Kanazawa was amazing. We traveled from Tokyo to Kanazawa by Shinkansen, which is super convenient. It only took us about 2 hours.
Using the Shinkansen is convenient as it eliminates all check-in time at the airport and the wait time for departure and arrival. On our first day in Kanazawa, it was raining, but on the positive side, we witnessed the beautiful Kanazawa town. You get to see a different side of it when it rains. It is a beautiful and unique town.
What is amazing about Kanazawa? It is all about the traditional buildings, being away from urban life, beautiful scenery, and getting to know the history and culture of this town. We explored most of the town area in Kanazawa on our first day, including:
    -Higashi Chaya District
    -Myoryuji
On our second day, we visited Kanazawa Castle, which is amazing. The building and structure really amazed us. It is huge, has lots of walking, and is a great place for picture taking. We then went across to visit the shops, had some food, and took a stroll. The traditional buildings are really beautiful, and you do not get bored or tired of admiring them. We also visited the Oyama Shrine.
On our third day, we took a day trip to Shirakawa-go by bus. You can buy bus tickets from the JR station in Kanazawa. Please note that you will need to buy them before boarding the bus. Don't be like us! You can buy the ticket on the West Side of the JR station Kanazawa at Bus Stop 8. The ticket costs 2600 yen per person and it takes around 1 hour to arrive at Shirakawa-go village. The ride is amazing as you get to see beautiful scenery along the way!
After Shirakawa-go, we initially wanted to go by bus from there to Takayama. However, we realized that we could use our JR pass to go from Kanazawa to Takayama at a little extra cost, as mentioned in the video. I think it is better this way as Takayama is really beautiful and we wanted to spend a full day there rather than rushing from Shirakawa-go. From Shirakawa-go, we decided to stop by Toyama. We did not include that in the video because we were not sure if the viewers would be bored of our walk around Toyama randomly.
Lastly, we took a day trip from Kanazawa to Takayama using our JR pass. In the video, it detailed the stops we had to make and the amount we needed to pay extra to get to Toyama. It is around 2 hours travel, which is more or less the same as taking a bus. But it was cheaper for us since we already paid for our JR pass. One of our favorite places is Takayama. It is beautiful with lots of things to see. A really good and interesting place to visit.
I hope you enjoy the video.

Thanks for video. How ahead of time would one book the various train tickets? Can we buy them once arrive in Japan or needs booking way ahead of time? Thanks

@keithooi5950 I book some before , around 2 months before I arrived Japan. Booking earlier may get you slightly cheaper tickets . Really depends. You can also get your tickets when you get here.
I think best research where you getting your tickets from. But booking definitely helps as it save you time from getting tickets when you are in japan. Let me know if you have more questions

Do you mind sharing how did you get to Takayama after alighting at Toyama/Inotani ? :)

Hi @genn334 , we actually have a JR pass. We took the Shinkansen to Toyama. From there you can continue the JR train or Shinkansen to Takayama.
      Check this link - www.google.com/gasearch?q=toyama%20jr%20to%20takayama&source=sh/x/gs/m2/5#vhid=sagqO9xA_v-4LM&vssid=mosaic.
Or search Toyama JR line. You can see Toyama JR line is red colour. And to Takayama is yellow. Takayama JR line actually owns by a different company. If you have JR pass , check to see if it covers to Takayama. If not, you be the same as us, where we need to top up around 1000 yen per person I believe. They check your tickets on the way there. If unsure, you can always ask the conductors who are super helpful.
Not going to lie, is super confusing and we really had taken wrong trains in our trips.
Another tip, if you travelling Japan, and you bought a JR pass in advance , make sure you check where to collect them. Because not all stations have the ability of collection. Let me know if you have any other questions, I be happy to help!
