DiC really made this anime feel like magic and wonder! Sure they censored some stuff but their dub amplified the fun in believing in magic! Especially when you were a kid!
The transformations are always the highlight of the episodes for me, but the music (especially now that I’m older) makes me very emotional and hopeful at the same time. Youth! What a time!

this is the dub that i grew up and fell in love with. this is the sailor moon that i knew and i don't care about all the changes this dub had to make, it was unique and magical and i enjoyed every minute of this.
This was the very first anime title that I started watching anime on television back then when I was a toddler back in September 11, 1995 when the show was first aired on US television syndication. It was cheesy, and censored back then. It's too girly. But look at it back then, it was nostalgia.
Frankly I'm glad the Dic dub exists. If they had played the original my grandmother never would have let me watch Sailor Moon. Maybe I never would have seen it or discovered other anime later.

I'm a guy and I refuse to watch the Viz dub. I prefer the DIC version since that's the version I grew up watching and it brings back memories every time I see it and hear the music.
I am watching the Viz dub and I love it. They did a great job, it's nice to see that it is closer to the original in japanese and I am glad they are inclusive with Neptune and Pluto's relationship. The DIC dub will always be the best in terms of music
I care not what critics and “purists” think, this DiC dub is still good. Maybe the show is insanely censored, and maybe the script wasn’t as faithful to the original Japanese script; but it is undeniable that DiC’s Sailor Moon dub was what introduced Japanese animation to millions of Western girls and boys. For us 90s kids, DiC’s Sailor Moon (along with Pokémon and Dragon Ball Z) was basically the Speed Racer of our generation, and introduced many of us to the very idea of female superheroes.
True, but we have to admit the separation between DiC/Clover, Viz, and original fans is really far. I’ve grown up with the DiC/Clover dub but rewatched the series again on the Viz dub, and I’m one of the few who understands the pros and cons…. But people say stupid things about Original and Viz fans :/
My main issue with the Viz dub is that I just dont get the same emotions that the Dic dub gives. Compare the 90s version of Jupiter Thunder Dragon to the Viz version, you'll see what I mean
Exactly. I miss the older anime. If I wanted to watch a more adult anime I'll watch adult swim. Keep my classics clean. The stuff nowadays is too much as well.
I think the music in the original dub is honestly better than the original music. It feels more emotional and also I loved rhe original voice actresses. But it is true but understandable during the 90s they cut out alot of stuff. Even as a kid when they went to fight Queen Baryl I was alitrle confused because some things seemed abrupt in a scene change for example. They could have kept Japanese references for educational purposes for us in the West at least.
I prefer the DiC sountrack. I'm not sure if it was because I heard it during a happier time in my life. It could also be because star twinkle sound effects seem like a good match for someone who uses magic.

The voice actors/actress, the theme song, the transformation song, the sounds of the magic, the yelling of “Mooooon prismmm POW-ER!”, ALL of THAT. That’s my childhood. That is what 4-6yr old me use to sit infront of the tv waiting for. Anticipating for😭😭 I turned on Hulu to reminisce those memories only to have thought my memories were incorrect. No. My memories were not. Thank you for making this video for those of us who have NOT forgotten what magic the TRUE OG dub brought to our childhood✨💕♥️😭
Maybe, but "magical girls" are supposed to have so-called "magical auras" around them that keep people from recognizing them while normal girls and probably slow or stop time to permit their transformations to happen immediately, at least to us mortals. Kind of a bullet-time make-up.
+Kei Nanjo It doesn't work like that, if they are actually transforming, the mid light would vaporise them if they interrupt (if they actually transform like magical girls but it is most likely that they would transform instantaneously.
You can joke, but honestly, for anyone who grew up with this, it held all of the sparkle of the subbed. The '90s were a completely different vibe than anime is right now, especially the styles in the 90's in Japan and the 90's in the US. Given how vastly misunderstood and overly censored the source material was (IE if it's animated it's for kids) I feel like it could have gone so much worse. You could barely find anyone who knew what anime or manga was. Let alone how much globalization and context the internet would soon give us. I have nothing but respect for the original seiyuus, but this dub is just as important and valid as any other. Especially since we're still having this conversation two decades later.

DiC brought the magic and excitement to Sailor Moon. I grew up watching Black Dream Hole at 4 with DiC and it’s still my favorite dubbed series to this day. Viz may hold to the tradition, but DiC AND Cloverway (to a degree) knocks it out of the park. The music def is one of the best features.

Nice, it looks fantastic. Contrary to subtitled snobs, I actually thought the original dub was fine and found the music to be better than the japanese version. Thank you for uploading this. The only problem I had with the show is the censoring, but that had to happen for it to air so I'm just glad I got to grow up with Sailor Moon in some form. I'm looking foward to the DVD remaster and SM Crystals.
I always thought that the transformations weren't in real time--like WE saw it, but like Digimon it was a time stop for the audience. Well, with Darien watching and commenting mid-transformation, there goes that theory, lol.
finally I found the music haha this brings back memories of getting this at the video rental store when I was 4 or 5. Man I loved this show. I had these little ponytail clips and a little wand or whatever that had a button that I clicked and it said "moon crystal power!" and I had a little sailor moon doll that I carried everywhere.
You posted this 6 years ago but yeees! I get the same memories and emotions. Brings me back to that feeling of being a carefree kid. I would look for Sailor Moon all the time whenever my family and I went to Blockbuster. I didnt even really know what I was watching at the time ngl, i think I was just too young to really know what the show was lmao. But I know I loved the music, the pretty transformations, and the characters! The music in this dub will always give me major nostalgia that hits me right at the heart🥺
You have sharp ears. For whatever reason, Mercury's sound effects weren't very prominent at that point compared to the others. A little "sweetening" seemed in order.
This is the 1st anime i ever saw & as someone who is a full weeb & never watches dubs anymore, this is the only exception. The opening & transformation themes are too nostalgic to ever let go off, now if only they didn’t censor uranus/neptune’s relationship
Anyone who prefers the newer Viz version of this simply because it's purer and truer to the original Japanese happy disco funk rock is missing the point. The DIC version here was intended to evoke a different emotion and the chord progression draws the feelings of triumph and power but also tenderness and moodiness as far as music theory goes. Think Chariots of Fire by Vangelis or the Olympic theme by John Williams. Both are upbeat but the DIC version is more layered in its melody.
The DiC versionwas literally my childhood, I memorized every. little. bit. and as an adult, other versions are just..not right in my brain. I had the movies R, S, and Super S from Pioneer and they were the soundtrack of my life.
well DIC did downsize sailor moon for the little kids how would they know that back then we teens and older fans would accept sailor moon into the fold i say they did a good job just for the kids back then when i watched the show i did not care about all the details of it being downgraded even so i still love it no matter what if it wasn't for this anime and DBZ i probably would've never been an anime fan
it does capture the love & beauty very well honnestly , just has that really sweet magical feel to it of the 5 girls , every time they transform, felt that ever since i first saw sailor moon
Sailor Moon (DIC version) was my first anime into the Magical Girl Genre and I have to admit, I loved the English Transformation Music as to me, it fit perfectly. Years later, I would get the original Japanese version and that too is also good.
The music in the DiC dub is second to none. Man, this takes me back. As great as the artwork is, it's the music that sold me on this show back when I was 11. I still can't get over how good it is. The DiC dub sucks, don't get me wrong. But the music more than makes up for the problems.
"Odd"? That is an odd choice of words. The priority was finding unique clips that could be edited together into a more-or-less cohesive montage. I only had seasons 1 and 2 to work with that had DIC music, so my choices were limited. The video was remastered, not the audio - except for a few "sweeteners" like some added sound effects and removing Darien's "Serena is". Otherwise, the audio is from the show featuring the DIC music and the voice actor they layered over the music.
Out of all the versions including the nee revamped versions DIC had the BEST version in my opinion. I'm glad I own the original Sailor Moon Super S DIC music movies and etc. The music is better
The English transformation music is better than the Japanese, and thats the tea. The original is not always better, just look at the original Pokemon theme song compared to the English one everyone knows.
@@Disneyfan82 objectively untrue. Hence why the English version are iconic worldwide and and the Japanese ones aren't. A lot of the times the original is better, but this is not one of those times. This track is soaring and magical, the Japanese one sounds like a cheesy toy commercial or a game show.

I June 1994 Selena or sailor moon made her debut in US tv, it’s been 30yrs since her arrival. Sailor moon is the pioneer of anime who opened more tele marketing than any anime from the 80s and 90s.
It's odd that you used the Emilie Claire-Barlow voice of Sailor Mars, when she was only in the role for 13 episodes. Compare this to the more than 100 episodes Katie Griffin, the better known Sailor Mars voice, has been in.
Watching the viz dub right now and was so disappointed that they didnt use the same music😔 Just had to come and look up the dic soundtrack for nostalgia😁
@@Truecrimeresearcher224 The problem with this is DiC had almost 25 minutes of usable footage in each episode. So in cutting 3-4 minutes out of each episode, they could have actually chosen to truncate the stock footage (shorten the sequences), rather than cut episode plot-relevant footage they could have kept.
@@Truecrimeresearcher224 My only disagreement with your statement here, is all of the stock footage was present in the Japanese releases of the show, and Japan did not have the same censorship standards for children's programming.

Good point, although Darien/Mamoru is the guardian of Earth, so maybe he can see the fanservice as well.

I would look for Sailor Moon all the time whenever my family and I went to Blockbuster. I didnt even really know what I was watching at the time ngl, i think I was just too young to really know what the show was lmao. But I know I loved the music, the pretty transformations, and the characters! The music in this dub will always give me major nostalgia that hits me right at the heart🥺
I love how at 0:43 you added the Crisis Make Up ending sound effect. It seems more WOW that way, if it makes sense.
You have sharp ears. For whatever reason, Mercury's sound effects weren't very prominent at that point compared to the others. A little "sweetening" seemed in order.

This is the 1st anime i ever saw & as someone who is a full weeb & never watches dubs anymore, this is the only exception. The opening & transformation themes are too nostalgic to ever let go off, now if only they didn’t censor uranus/neptune’s relationship
Anyone who prefers the newer Viz version of this simply because it's purer and truer to the original Japanese happy disco funk rock is missing the point. The DIC version here was intended to evoke a different emotion and the chord progression draws the feelings of triumph and power but also tenderness and moodiness as far as music theory goes. Think Chariots of Fire by Vangelis or the Olympic theme by John Williams. Both are upbeat but the DIC version is more layered in its melody.
This is the music that I always enjoyed hearing when the girls transformed. Loved the DIC Sailor Moon.

The DiC versionwas literally my childhood, I memorized every. little. bit. and as an adult, other versions are just..not right in my brain. I had the movies R, S, and Super S from Pioneer and they were the soundtrack of my life.

well DIC did downsize sailor moon for the little kids how would they know that back then we teens and older fans would accept sailor moon into the fold i say they did a good job just for the kids back then when i watched the show i did not care about all the details of it being downgraded even so i still love it no matter what if it wasn't for this anime and DBZ i probably would've never been an anime fan

Sailor Moon (DIC version) was my first anime into the Magical Girl Genre and I have to admit, I loved the English Transformation Music as to me, it fit perfectly. Years later, I would get the original Japanese version and that too is also good.

"Odd"? That is an odd choice of words. The priority was finding unique clips that could be edited together into a more-or-less cohesive montage. I only had seasons 1 and 2 to work with that had DIC music, so my choices were limited. The video was remastered, not the audio - except for a few "sweeteners" like some added sound effects and removing Darien's "Serena is". Otherwise, the audio is from the show featuring the DIC music and the voice actor they layered over the music.
Out of all the versions including the nee revamped versions DIC had the BEST version in my opinion. I'm glad I own the original Sailor Moon Super S DIC music movies and etc. The music is better

The English transformation music is better than the Japanese, and thats the tea. The original is not always better, just look at the original Pokemon theme song compared to the English one everyone knows.

@@Disneyfan82 objectively untrue. Hence why the English version are iconic worldwide and and the Japanese ones aren't. A lot of the times the original is better, but this is not one of those times. This track is soaring and magical, the Japanese one sounds like a cheesy toy commercial or a game show.

I June 1994 Selena or sailor moon made her debut in US tv, it’s been 30yrs since her arrival. Sailor moon is the pioneer of anime who opened more tele marketing than any anime from the 80s and 90s.
It's odd that you used the Emilie Claire-Barlow voice of Sailor Mars, when she was only in the role for 13 episodes. Compare this to the more than 100 episodes Katie Griffin, the better known Sailor Mars voice, has been in.

@@Truecrimeresearcher224 The problem with this is DiC had almost 25 minutes of usable footage in each episode. So in cutting 3-4 minutes out of each episode, they could have actually chosen to truncate the stock footage (shorten the sequences), rather than cut episode plot-relevant footage they could have kept.
