- It's a big year for roller coasters in the UK, with Hyperia at Thorpe Park set to break the record as our tallest coaster. Until it opens however, that record is held by The Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach Resort. This Arrow Dynamics Hypercoaster was once the Tallest and steepest roller coaster in the world, taking the record from Magnum XL-200. How does this iconic ride hold up to modern standards though, is it any good, and what is up with some of those crazy statistics that the park claims it has.
Watch this video and find out!
the reprofiling of star hill exit under big dipper into the mcbr is brutal..... the jerk on it is horrendous now, and i cant understand why the track needed to change, that or it was just made wrong
It's the star hill the one by the hotel?
Great review thanks! I completely agree with everything you said. Does any other coaster anywhere do such a thorough job of totally wasting it's height? Frankly I can't believe this coaster ever made it off of the drawing board. 😐
Viper magic mountain and Steel Phantom have curved drops and they were built before the Big one.
"That's just bollocks" 🤣🤣🤣
*3 decades
I think you meant to say Three decades, not two.
There’s better, newer rides at Blackpool, but you can’t remove it, it’s part of Blackpool legacy
If removals like the wooden wild mouse are anything to go by, Blackpool doesn't really care about it's legacy!
I'll be honest, it looks..dull. One drop and a lot of riding. Similar to Do-dodompa, but less exciting. Not sure RMC can save the one. Great video, however, I had not idea of it's history or the "fun" stats =)
Dodonpa had that top hat though... It was epic
When you say for now. What is going to be bigger?
Hyperia
Smaller One - Diet Pepsi
I'm just happy in this day and age it's not sponsored by prime
is hyperia
Great vid mate👍I remember riding this before it was officially opened by some boy band who I forget there name ,It had the original drop before it was reprofiled 👍Great first drop back in 1994 but the rest of the ride was absolute pants, only £3 a ride then, you could get to pints of Stella back then wish I’d bought beer rather than riding this ,How the boss of Blackpool pleasure beach back then went to cedar point and rode Magnum XL 200 and thought I want one taller but let’s take out all the air time and thrills 🤔A lot of rollercoaster enthusiasts love this iconic ride at Blackpool but personally I think it’s a load of shite, you can retrack it all you like it’s still shit 👍
Think how many pints you could get in the Velvet Coaster Wetherspoons next to the park for the price of entry these days!!
@@RollercoasterDavid I know mate 😂😂🍺🍺
I despise the Big One. It's always been a pointless coaster that broke records for the sake of it. There's more fun to be had being rolled off a cliff in a shopping trolley than riding this. I really think it's time to remove this rusty mine train and feel similarly that it was such a wasted opportunity in terms of the investment. Nemesis was built the same year which makes this thing look prehistoric in design.
Blackpool pleasure beach will die if they remove the Big One. Wether or not it's showing it's age it's a historic and iconic coaster in the UK. And it still WAS the tallest, still a milestone. And these no point comparing it to Nemesus because they're just not the same ride or even similar are they 😂
IMO it’s a good coaster, little roughness when I ride
Not only is it crap, its the most ugliest looking coaster too.Pleasure beach got ripped off when it was built in 1993.
Sichhhh a BAD layout
Its a shit coaster.
I smell bs
@@GoofyMann69 it is crap. First drop ok but after that there's nothing more
Its beyond shit.It ned to be taken down and replaced.
