Hi tom its ice to have watched your journey so far as you have learned a lot up to this point keep it up mate your doing well ,great vids ,great content for all to see
When I used to fish hand lining for mackerel I had 20 feathers on the end with a pound weight I could fill the bottom of my wee boat in no time at all usually around 8 boxes and I proved I was better than a gurdy machine against my nephew on his boat he has 4 on his it all depends on what's down there but I would hand line every time Tom, if I ever get over there I will look you up and give you an insight on how we fished in the far north east of Scotland ,lol
Hi Dean have played around with the weights a bit, I think the whole system needs a bit of tweaking for sure, a bit unwieldy at the moment. I find having a big weight on the end seems to scare some of the fish. Just a theory mind Thanks for the comment in any case
Hi Tom do you really think that machine was a help of a hindrance, you nearly hung yourself trying to get to you're rod when it almost went overboard. You did well with a lot of big mackerel especially when some fishing mags have been putting it around that there's a shortage of mackerel. As always a great vlog that I always look forward to on a Thursday evening, what happened last week!
Thanks David, just trialling the thing to be honest. It is there for when the mackerel are thick under the boat, which they weren’t on that particular day. I will never waste any catch, I either catch enough to sell or to freeze for the winter. Nothing goes to waste. I’m going to ask the restaurants for their fish frames for my crab pots, to further reduce waste hopefully. Thanks for your continued views and support. Had a couple of weeks off to regroup as editing takes quite a time and not every single trip is view worthy. You’ll be pleased to hear I’m back in action now though 🐟 🐟 all the best
Dean missed the point.. Here in Boston HaBa when your using a Sabiki or such for Mack’s leave the rig down when you get one on the line. It’ll fill all your feathers. I’m about the only person I know who eats them. Skin side down on a hot grill with some rice or Risotto and a salad. I’m afraid the bulk of them get used as striped bass bait.
looks to me (and only a youtuber watcher) that your snoods are a bit too long which means everything gets a bit wild when bringing in... very short snoods should make it run smoother...
Nice one big fella - you seem to keep your boat clean as well. Great to see.
Thanks a lot 🐟

And then I went aboard the family's big boats I was in my wee boat from 13 to 15 years old.
If you put a heavier weight on the Girdy rig it would keep the tension better around the rollers.just a thought!

What size line and hooks? Do you rig them yourself?
I tend to buy pre-rigged, fairly heavy line say 40lb, doesn’t seem to put the fish off
Hooks size 1/0
