- Jeff Saxon, a viewer of the channel reached out to me via email about a future video idea. The idea went as follows; "What if Nissan saw the 1991 GMC Syclone and said, 'Yeah, we can beat that.'"
I tried to bring that concept to life to the best of my abilities. Now can we get Nissan to make this thing? I really want one. Shout out to Jeff Saxon for sparking this project!

I’ll be honest this would be one of the sickest things to come out of a Nissan dealership.
If it came out today thats for sure.
Yeah man, even today, a "Hardbody" edition Frontier with a slightly detuned R35 GT-R drivetrain to take on the Colorado Bison and Ranger Raptor would be pretty sick!
My buddy has done an sr20 swap into a hardbody twice. Coulda made a rep of that.
Nissan made a 4x4 frontier sc with a supercharger
And they would go on to call it "GTZ" otherwise known as "Tsunami"
Change it to a pathfinder body and youve got its twin, the 'Monsoon'

So here’s something interesting: the gearbox in the Nissan Patrol can be fit to the RB25 without any modifications. With an AWD setup, this was really Nissan’s answer to the Syclone.
Somebody needs to build this. I would totally follow the build.

I doubt they'd put the GT-R name on it, since the Puslar was called the GTI-R, and the Sentra got the SE-R.

Glad I own a d21 hardbody fun! Little truck and manual transmission makes it even more fun currently fixing front end and cosmetic before paint job
Mini trucks from this era are just more fun to drive!!! I still have the Mazda B2600 that my dad bought in 89 with manual transmission. They aren't the fastest but they make you smile when you drive them...

You know that is gotta be one of the coolest, what if in the entire world? What if Nissan did make a cyclone competitor using the RB26 engine from the Skyline I imagine it would have sold and it would have been a very sot out collectors item nowadays, but I love what if?
But here's a very interesting what if for a future video? What if Nissan collaborated with famous actress, Elizabeth Hurley editon of GTR R35 And it comes with Very unique pink and aqua racing stripes. And it sort of like an luxury high performance

This pretty neat. I was 5 when the 300ZXTT went on sale and I instantly wanted it. Making a VG30DETT fit a Hardbody might be easier than making an RB26DETT fit.
it would be cool to see the same with a mazda repu, it's a mazda truck with a rotary engine, perhaps you can make it to be the inspiration to the GMC, like a little backstory of it, of course not real but not like the Nissan GMC Syclone competitor is.
Complete with premix Apex i tuned rich for that flaming throwing off throttle exhaust!

Absolutely amazing! BUT what if... VG30DETT?😉 Because VG30i and VG30E was one of the engine options of the hardbody, and this can make it even more realistic!
It would be easier, but the RB26DETT has a forbidden fruit appeal that a VG30DETT would not have.
@@skylinefever That and with some serious custom fab skills an AWD RB26DETT Hardbody could be had that could handle serious power since it has a pretty bomb proof transmission and transfer case.
A Nissan MID4 video would be pretty awesome also, would love to see your ideas behind how one would have hit the street one day in the late '80s. Also hope one day you can make that USA Initial D video series happen. Pretty sure it would do really well! White C4 ZR-1 and Yellow C5 Z06 for the Takahashi brothers!

I actually just got a Nissan hardbody a few weeks back! At the moment it doesn't run but working to change that!

If I'm correct it has the same sub-frame as 240SX, so if you wanted to you can put RB engine mounts for 240SX in your Hardbody, and maybe drop an RB in it... Mind you that's from what I heard, so don't fully trust my words, you still need to do some research...
Of course if you want to put other motor in that would be awesome too... Or rebuild that torqy KA24...
@@Adiya_55 Interesting to think about nonetheless! I'm currently working on rebuilding it, after a complete teardown it turns out the majority of the internals are good, the bearings took the beating when the oil was starved, oh and the exhaust valve when it jumped time but very repairable stuff :)

Love the idea, need to to up that torque on the rb though. Syclone was packing a ton of torque. Definitely would be on my wishlist either way.

My god a Nissan mini truck with an Attesa et-s and a RB26DETT under the hood. What a blast that would have been, unless it was light in the rear, then it'd be a fun nightmare.

I remember in the mid 2000's someone had built one...not necessarily a 1:1 to your idea but it was a Nissan truck with R32 motor and awd. the truck didn't get much attention as it should have and it just disappeared.

Since the Hardbody/Pathfinder already had a VG30 available in it, this concept would have had that. The Syclone/Typhoon already had a 4.3L V6 in those as well, so the wheel didn't need to be reinvented.

But as an owner of D21 - must say that there is no way for inline6 to fit under it's hood without lots and LOTS of refabricating all of it surroundings.
V6 or V8 looks way more realistic.
Could you make a video with a similar plot but only about the B.Wave body kit, on S13 or S14 and so that it would also be mysterious, and some kind of mountain pass from Kanagawa.. But it turned out very cool, I like it)

I’ve seen Hardbodies and Pathfinders with Skyline motors in them but none of them were poised to be put up against a Cyclone or Typhoon.
It would be dope to make them AND keep them AWD.

If Nissan/Datsun was to do this in 1992... The Cyclone/Typhoon would be a $2000 truck while these brought in massive premiums. Even if it was just a SR20DET powered car with a modified Pulsar GTI-R drivetrain it would have eaten all the Cyclone could throw at it, and ask for seconds. And man, thinking about the big power you can make in modern day with the RB's and SR's thanks to modern tuning software and developements YIKES! Would be scary fast trucks.

More than likely, they would have just used the VG30dett, since the hardbody was already available with a VG30e with 4wd.

I like the idea of a Syclone competitor.. but i'd bet if Nissan was going to do that in 91, in the US, You'd find a VQ30DETT under the hood.. not an RB26.
Engine and Transmission combo was already federalized in the 300zx, and would have probably fit better in a Hardbody than the long I6
The nissan hardbody had a v6 option that could have had the 300zx turbo and ecu added to be the street king
