The old man's name was Sam Mildener. Conan discovered him in this segment then featured him in skits as an Iraq War news correspondent and a military analyst after the US invaded Iraq. Those skits were hilarious and Team Coco needs to upload them now!

I remember when this aired, I'd just dug my car out from all that snow that night. This episode had me laughing so much that about a day or two later, I decided to go to a taping with my cousin. It makes me feel so old to see episodes I clearly remember being posted as "classics", lol.
I was a undergrad from New Orleans visiting my then girlfriend in DC who was in grad school at Georgetown. We got snowed in together the same day you dug your car out. We too were laughing our asses off the night this aired.

That’s what I love ab Conan: he can mingle with anybody and outgoing enough to be able to make a joke that will be perceived as funny by anyone. He was born to be a comedian. Thanks God 🙏🏻
You know, first I loved The Simpsons. Then I discovered Conan. Then I discovered Conan wrote for The Simpsons. This man had such a big impact on my sense of humor and I didn't even know it.
I've been finding myself watching a lot of old Conan interviews/remotes lately and I'll always have a soft spot for the ones set during this time period (Early 2000s). It was around this time that I first started watching Conan with my Mom at a way too young age and way past my bedtime. In addition to that, watching videos from this era just immediately takes me back to that time, remembering what it was like to be a kid and not having to worry about anything.
JoAnne Weiss yes he is an intelligent comedian...not just a comedian who always count on controversies...but a pure comedian who happens to be a host of show...and the best one too..
There are so many bits and sketches missing, not even speaking about the whole shows over the years. So much nostalgia lost in the river of times. But many good and great sketches are finally on YT. Love it still today
Yesss! I'm not sure if this is Conan in his prime or I just really fell in love with the show around this time. I think I started watching in 98, when I was 10. Glad he's still on the air
I had to go back and watch it again. His delight with shoveling snow on the taxi and his laughter were hilarious. I remember watching this episode when it was on originally. Love Conan.

I wonder if that old guy told Conan about the time he tied an onion to his belt, which was the style at the time...
