I think this behavior by the Toms is so deep. I think it is possible that being messy and dysfunctional is rewarded in the reality TV cast world. Seems as though the guys on the show are stunted and are virtually the same as they have been in the 11 years on this show. The women have evolved and matured more so, but I also think they too are somewhat stunted. None are bad people, just spent their formative adult years in this odd space where cheating and any scandal is rewarded in many ways ie being casted for the next season, monetary, and praise from producers…I also feel like Tom really needs to learn to articulate and communicate better, that boy says constantly responds poorly, seemingly unaware how he sounds to others…interesting stuff here…
I hit like before it started. I wanted you to watch this interview. It drove me mad too. Im not a psychologist, but have a psych degree and worked in family violence for years, Tom has such little insight and does so much victim blaming I can only be glad Arianna is away from him.

I remember when Jax would mess up, Tom & Schwartz would be the main ones telling him he is almost 40. Now, here they are at 40/41, doing the same crap. Schwartz is a ppl pleaser to the wrong ppl.
Schwartz is such a weak person. He wants everyone to love him. Yet, he has anger just below the surface. So, he can be vicious like he was with Katie his ex-wife.
Tom Schwartz is NOT a nice guy, he is extremely passive-aggressive. Beneath his aw-schucks exterior there’s a lot of selfishness and anger. You hear it particularly in his interactions with Katie. He says very hurtful things to her while claiming to care about her. He always deflects when others try to tell him what they are feeling.
He was scary with Katie. He was angry and passive aggressive with her. Remember when he yelled at her at a party how he wasn't sexually attracted to her anymore, and in her confession Katie said that wasn't the first time hed said stuff like that, it was just the first time he'd said it in front of other people.
He ALWAYS picked everyone over her! I’m not sure why they married. She was just someone for him to kick around. When she would say something back, everyone acted like she was so awful. Schwartz is NOT the nice guy he portrays himself to be.
You missed the best part! Natalie tracked down an email proving that Nick had not been late to Tom’s podcast (Tom claimed that he had been 2 hours late). It was brutal and so vindicating to watch Tom be proved a liar and gaslighter to his face!
Sandoval drives us crazy because he says “sorry, but“… He never takes responsibility. He says he did the wrong thing and then turns around and explains why whatever everyone around him did to him caused him to do that. Which negates him being wrong in the first place.
They actually have a long compilation in one of the Vanderpump episodes a few years back where he says “I’m sorry BUT…” and it’s Schwartz who points it out and says “Tom doesn’t know how to apologize” before the editor’s compilation lol

She believes that over time Tom has changed the affair from something he DID to something that happened TO him which then allows him to easily feel like its not his fault, despite what he says...he can not help himself "but..I had low self worth, Rachel was hot, Ariana was mean blah blah blah"

He regrets it because he got caught. he said in one confessional that he usually deletes those videos (the one he took of Rachel without her knowledge). He is blaming Arianna and keeps up a narrative of making her the bad guy. He is incapable of saying I did a bad thing full stop.

Idk how anyone couldve watched it and thought she was too blame. I think people didnt like her so they made her out to be wrong about everything. I never had any feelings about her either way. I neither hated her nor really liked her. She was just there. I didnt see anything she did that would cause him to be the injured party. She was raising a child their entire relationship. Of course she wasnt happy go lucky all the time.

THANK YOU!!!! Fellow psychologist here .... and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for agreeing with me that he clearly shows signs and patterns and meets the criteria for (in the DSM V) NPD. A few months ago Dr. Drew was on Sandoval's podcast (I guess b/c he was on season 1 of Secret Forces and Sandoval was on season 2 so they have this in common) and he claimed that he used some questionaire to determine whether Sandoval had NPD and discovered that he didn't and I thought "I love you Dr. Drew but maybe stick to Substance Abuse?"

I think the reason Tom wanted to wait until the confessionals were over was to get on the record as much as possible what a terrible girlfriend Ariana is/was. When they eventually broke up Tom could point to all the interviews he gave about his grievances with Ariana. Interestingly though he never had this list of complaints about his relationship until after he was sleeping with Rachel. Meanwhile there’s Ariana saying she hopes she can spend more one on one time with Tom now the bar is open because he’s never home!

I've watched VPR since the beginning and Scandoval made me realize that between Kristen and Jax being scene stealers and my love for Ariana, Sandoval flew right under radar. it wasn't until Stassi had her book signing at TomTom that I finally started getting it. I don't know if that's because he's super manipulative or he's just not that interesting, but I never really paid attention to him.
Sandoval was able to hide his “true” self for the longest time because on VPR he was surrounded by a cast of flawed people and he appeared to actually have more common sense and morals and ethics than the rest of them. I’m uncertain if we can blame the fame for making him who we now see he truly is.

A lot of people feel like he showed up to the interview wrecked from the night/morning before... His track pants were dirty. He threw on whatever he had around him and got in the car, late to the recording.

However, after almost a year of Tom deflecting, and slithering out of answering tough questions, I was pleased to see someone not let him off the hook. Tom instigated the aggression, and Nick met him where he was at. Aggression is another one of Tom’s tactics to get people to back off with their questions, and I appreciate that Nick wouldn’t be intimidated. I bet Nick went back and watched a lot of Tom’s interviews to study his tactics. The more Nick questioned him, the more petty, angry and defensive Tom got, and it showed us that Tom hasn’t changed one iota since Ariana found that video on his phone. Nick was able to show us exactly who Tom is: aggressive, un-aware, inarticulate, entitled, selfish, and completely incapable of taking accountability for anything. As Katie and Ariana said in the after show “Tom still thinks this is all happening to him. He can’t accept that he did all this to himself”.

Last couple minutes of the interview was just a continuation of immaturity on Tom Sando’s part. He makes a sexual reference that is at first ignored by Schwartz so he repeats it again.
I was raised in a dysfunctional household where as a child I was put in the position to de-escalate situations. I understand swartz and feel bad for the guy. Anyways, swartz needs to go to therapy... like I did. It would help him.
Schwartz literally said that same thing about his time on winter hourse. He just regurgitates the same bs over and over again to flatter and apease the people around him.

I’m glad you thought Nick did a good job! I’ve watched him a bit and I think he’s pretty good at analyzing relationships with no professional degree in that. And since he’s a Bachelor alum, he tends to ‘get’ reality TV as well. He did a great job with these two crazies :)
The fact that he hasn't tells me Schwartz probably doesn't deserve the grace most people give him. He knew about Raquel from day one and he let them use his apartment as a place to have sex. He covered for him, enabled him, and ran interference for him. Schwartz is NOT a good guy.

@@hardkorr9503 we mean emotionally. Schwartz is a codependent person. He has no ability to regulate his own emotions , he needs others to do it for him. It’s why he stuck with Katie when he didn’t want to be with her. Now that Katie left him (given that Sandoval played a not insignificant role in their marriage problems and subsequent divorce), Sandoval is now his main unhealthy, codependent dynamic. It works both ways. Schwartz gets his emotional support from Sandoval, and Sandoval gets his narcissistic supply from Schwartz.
He wanted to wait until filming and interviews were over so he could control the narrative. Not because he was doing her a favor. He was already setting it up throughout the season by planting little seeds about her behind her back.
Did they talk about his time on Special Forces? He said he needed to be punished for what he did. He had to leave, and Nick actually completed the training!
The Toms are the worst and they always have been. They do have “Peter Pan Syndrome” but refuse to acknowledge it. They don’t own who they are which I find infuriating. Sandoval has zero remorse for anything. If you go back to Season 1 of VPR and watch all of the seasons, which will be torture at this point, you’ll see that both Toms repeat their destructive patterns every season. They haven’t matured or changed in 10 seasons IMO.

I love Nick’s interview style. He seems to give a lot of room for emotionally intelligent conversations but also doesn’t redirect someone who just can’t get it together.

He asked Well thought out direct questions and didn't buy into the narcissistic gas lighting. The Howie Mandel podcast was completely driven by Tom and his victim Narrative, and there's nothing that a narcissist hates more than someone calling them out on their behavior. I think schwartz would benefit from distancing himself from tom sandoval , but he's already proven that he's so in the pocket that he never will. I also love that this podcast came out right before the episode premiered because it was a little bit of a teaser like if you really thought he was gonna change or learn anything you'd be wrong. I haven't watched the first episode yet. But from the trailer, it definitely seemed like they were trying to give him a redemption. Arc edit, and i'm totally not here for that. At this point, I would have sat through Rachel on the show. Because at least it seems like she's done some level of introspection, even if she's also just parroting a bunch of therapy buzzwords and not taking accountability. I don't think either of them are really capable of taking accountability because they continueto blame ariana, production , fans, etc. When he says he would never be in this scenario again. I truly believe he thinks he will be slick next time and not get caught or just not be in a committed relationship to the extent that he was in. So that way , he can just whistle out of it and say, "Well , we were never really together."

She believes that over time Tom has changed the affair from something he DID to something that happened TO him which then allows him to easily feel like its not his fault, despite what he says...he can not help himself "but..I had low self worth, Rachel was hot, Ariana was mean blah blah blah"

I 100% believe he's doing it intentionally to upset Arianna. He's so bitter about her. He thought he couldn't leave her because without him she'd be nothing, and it turned out she became not only her best self, but better and more popular than HIM. Her first week performing Chicago brought in the most money of any week of the show being produced ever in 27 years. That is a huge thing!
Tom is a wannabe actor, he puts on a performance. He regrets it because he got caught. he said in one confessional that he usually deletes those videos (the one he took of Rachel without her knowledge). He is blaming Arianna and keeps up a narrative of making her the bad guy. He is incapable of saying I did a bad thing full stop.

Idk how anyone couldve watched it and thought she was too blame. I think people didnt like her so they made her out to be wrong about everything. I never had any feelings about her either way. I neither hated her nor really liked her. She was just there. I didnt see anything she did that would cause him to be the injured party. She was raising a child their entire relationship. THANK YOU!!!! Fellow psychologist here .... and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for agreeing with me that he clearly shows signs and patterns and meets the criteria for (in the DSM V) NPD. A few months ago Dr. Drew was on Sandoval's podcast (I guess b/c he was on season 1 of Secret Forces and Sandoval was on season 2 so they have this in common) and he claimed that he used some questionaire to determine whether Sandoval had NPD and discovered that he didn't and I thought "I love you Dr. Drew but maybe stick to Substance Abuse?"
Maybe not even that. Drew may be beloved by people, but I don't think he's good at his job.

Tom did the special forces show with nick Viall, that’s how theybecame friends. It’s ironic because the special forces guys told To. to stop with the pity party and Nick is saying the same thing. No one is buying it.
Sandoval is extremely vindictive. He executed revenge on Katie by having Rachel and Tom kiss, he executed revenge on James for Kristen and Ariana for embarrassing his ego by sleeping w Rachel.
I think the reason Tom wanted to wait until the confessionals were over was to get on the record as much as possible what a terrible girlfriend Ariana is/was. When they eventually broke up Tom could point to all the interviews he gave about his grievances with Ariana. Interestingly though he never had this list of complaints about his relationship until after he was sleeping with Rachel. Meanwhile there’s Ariana saying she hopes she can spend more one on one time with Tom now the bar is open because he’s never home!
right! he was totally trying to lay the groundwork near the end of the season when he had that totally staged convo with Schwartz with the "how are you Ariana doing". like he didn't already know.

I've watched VPR since the beginning and Scandoval made me realize that between Kristen and Jax being scene stealers and my love for Ariana, Sandoval flew right under radar. it wasn't until Stassi had her book signing at TomTom that I finally started getting it. I don't know if that's because he's super manipulative or he's just not that interesting, but I never really paid attention to him.

Sandoval was able to hide his “true” self for the longest time because on VPR he was surrounded by a cast of flawed people and he appeared to actually have more common sense and morals and ethics than the rest of them. I’m uncertain if we can blame the fame for making him who we now see he truly is.

I appreciate he has the balls to ask tough questions, and not let guests pussyfoot around answering.
I found him to be too aggressive and it very uncomfy to watch I couldn't finish it.

However, after almost a year of Tom deflecting, and slithering out of answering tough questions, I was pleased to see someone not let him off the hook.
Tom instigated the aggression, and Nick met him where he was at. Aggression is another one of Tom’s tactics to get people to back off with their questions, and I appreciate that Nick wouldn’t be intimidated.
I bet Nick went back and watched a lot of Tom’s interviews to study his tactics. The more Nick questioned him, the more petty, angry and defensive Tom got, and it showed us that Tom hasn’t changed one iota since Ariana found that video on his phone.
Nick was able to show us exactly who Tom is: aggressive, un-aware, inarticulate, entitled, selfish, and completely incapable of taking accountability for anything.
As Katie and Ariana said in the after show “Tom still thinks this is all happening to him. He can’t accept that he did all this to himself”.
I know in literally every video of yours that I watch I always comment that I can't help but scream "right!!" the entire video at almost everything you say 😂😂😂😂 you're so good at what you do you're amazing at your job

Last couple minutes of the interview was just a continuation of immaturity on Tom Sando’s part. He makes a sexual reference that is at first ignored by Schwartz so he repeats it again.

I’m glad you thought Nick did a good job! I’ve watched him a bit and I think he’s pretty good at analyzing relationships with no professional degree in that. And since he’s a Bachelor alum, he tends to ‘get’ reality TV as well. He did a great job with these two crazies :)

The fact that he hasn't tells me Schwartz probably doesn't deserve the grace most people give him. He knew about Raquel from day one and he let them use his apartment as a place to have sex. He covered for him, enabled him, and ran interference for him. Schwartz is NOT a good guy.

I agree with you about the dependency - but I don’t think it’s Stockholm syndrome. Tom Schwartz isn’t a victim - he is just very aware he got on the show thanks to Sandoval and Jax, way more than if he was just Katie’s bf.

It’s why he stuck with Katie when he didn’t want to be with her. Now that Katie left him (given that Sandoval played a not insignificant role in their marriage problems and subsequent divorce), Sandoval is now his main unhealthy, codependent dynamic.
It works both ways. Schwartz gets his emotional support from Sandoval, and Sandoval gets his narcissistic supply from Schwartz.
He wanted to wait until filming and interviews were over so he could control the narrative. Not because he was doing her a favor. He was already setting it up throughout the season by planting little seeds about her behind her back.

The Toms are the worst and they always have been. They do have “Peter Pan Syndrome” but refuse to acknowledge it. They don’t own who they are which I find infuriating. Sandoval has zero remorse for anything. If you go back to Season 1 of VPR and watch all of the seasons, which will be torture at this point, you’ll see that both Toms repeat their destructive patterns every season. They haven’t matured or changed in 10 seasons IMO.

I love Nick’s interview style. He seems to give a lot of room for emotionally intelligent conversations but also doesn’t redirect someone who just can’t get it together.

I like watching Nick's podcast because he gets straight to the point that he doesn't beat around the bush and doesn't pander to his guests. He asked Well thought out direct questions and didn't buy into the narcissistic gas lighting. The Howie Mandel podcast was completely driven by Tom and his victim Narrative, and there's nothing that a narcissist hates more than someone calling them out on their behavior. I think schwartz would benefit from distancing himself from tom sandoval , but he's already proven that he's so in the pocket that he never will. I also love that this podcast came out right before the episode premiered because it was a little bit of a teaser like if you really thought he was gonna change or learn anything you'd be wrong. I haven't watched the first episode yet. But from the trailer, it definitely seemed like they were trying to give him a redemption. Arc edit, and i'm totally not here for that. At this point, I would have sat through Rachel on the show. Because at least it seems like she's done some level of introspection, even if she's also just parroting a bunch of therapy buzzwords and not taking accountability. I don't think either of them are really capable of taking accountability because they continueto blame ariana, production , fans, etc. When he says he would never be in this scenario again. I truly believe he thinks he will be slick next time and not get caught or just not be in a committed relationship to the extent that he was in. So that way , he can just whistle out of it and say, "Well , we were never really together."
