- Drilling a hole in the wall is a basic skill that every home owner should know. follow these simple steps to learn how to drill a hole in a concrete wall.
My Papa worked in construction for sometime, but passed away when I was quite young. So I have no one to go to for information on how to make, install or fix things. Videos like these are a God-send. Thank you, MAN the House. ❤
@v.r.j5577 that's very heartwarming! I'm glad I can share this information with you!
Thank you ... Just halfway through here but already very informative!!! 🙂
Thanks for explaining everything down to the drill bits. I have never done any DIY before. Subscribed!
Thanks for the tutorial!
Very useful. Thank you sir
nice video well explained thanks
Nice video. It helped me. Thank you.
Thank you for the wonderful tips, may I request for a video on how to mend the wall e.g. drill hole to even cracks?
This is cool! Let me try again on my HDB concrete wall with proper drill bit...
Not just the bit but the drill too
Hi, i have a question. When i drill my wall, i think i hit on the beam. My question is do i change the drill bit to the metal type drill or can i just carry on using the masonry bit?
Do you have e video where I could fix the hole left after?
What hardware should I use to mount a projector on the ceiling?
Man it looks SOOOOO Hot in there. LOL! Anyway, thanks for posting. I live in Taiwan were most of the older buildings have plaster/concrete walls.
Very cool!
thanks for the awesome guide!
A question on the sds rotary drill:
can you use the it to drill tile in rotation-only mode, with the appropriate chuck adapter & tile bit?
Yes! I should do a review on this tool!
@@ThePunggolHandyMan you should! i'm very interested to know if ingco sds drills are good enough, compared to makita and all the other more established brands
If you really wanna know, I use their rotary hammer drill on the job. And I have no complaints
Hi! If it's possible, can you do a video of drilling of tiles? Specifically bathroom tiles. Thank you!
Check out this video ruclips.net/video/I9Nl8vEwybE/видео.html
9 min mark. But you're right I should make a tile specific video.
Hope it helps!
Can you do a video of the various drills for the ceiling and the various pricing. As a consumer we normally drill less than a handful times. It doesnt make sense to buy the expensive drill only to use a few times.

This is a cheap drill and you can use it as a regular drill. Also, buying it is cheaper than calling a handyman
Bro question,
Can the wall of newer hdbs support a 200kg mount? Because new hdb walls for the rooms are much thinner than traditional concrete wall, like estimated to be only 1.5 inch thick max... and if can, what kind of wall plugs is best suited?
I wouldn't install something so heavy on the walls
is it safe to drill in rcc slab?
I've had difficulties drilling desired depths into the concrete HDB flat ceilings. One out of four holes went almost as deep as I wanted, while the others had progress completely stop at varying depths (some very shallow). Tried two different drills (Bosch GSB 16 RE, borrowed a different one) using fresh masonry bits. They had no trouble with the walls, just the ceiling. Could I be unlucky enough to hit rebar in a few places?
The Bosch GSB16RE is a impact drill. It does not do well against reinforced concrete. You need a rotary hammer drill which is a radically different machine.
@@ThePunggolHandyMan Thanks for the reply! That's disappointing to hear. The hardware store said this one would work well for both HDB concrete walls and ceilings. It drilled holes quickly in the walls, and one or two holes went smoothly in the ceiling (while the others got stuck at different depths). Are there more dense spots in the ceiling concrete that it's not powerful enough to overcome?
@@BrianBickerton there are varying grades of concrete. Some HDB walls are made of very thin precast concrete which is softer than floors and beams which have to be load bearing
Hi, thanks for your amazing video, but any tips on how deep should I dirll? Base on the length of the wall plug?
You drill based on the length of the screw.. add 10 to 20% depth
@@ThePunggolHandyMan Thanks for your information and advice. I will be alway waiting for the next great video.
@@benyeong5378 tha k you for your support!
Any advice on how to drill holes Street rather vertical or horizontal (a wall or a ceiling)
Thank you
Actually the honest answer is lots of practice. Even I started off drilling wonky holes
So do u use 6mm bit with 6mm wall plugs and 6mm screws consistently ? Not bigger holes to cater to the thickness of the wall plugs ?
No no the wall plugs will come with a recommended hole size. So depends on manufacturer
Hi mate, i'm having to drill a hole into concrete ceiling to allow a leak to flow through without causing further damage to the ceiling. Any advice on how to drill and not hit potential electrical wires/plumbing? It's a room on the top floor and need to drill in the corner of it closer to the chimney area.
Wow uh I'm not sure how to advise this . You need a specialist
Hi, I'm planning to mount my 65" TV.
1) should I be using anchor bolt for the mounting bracket or normal plug will do.
2) the rotary hammer drill that you are using, will it be able to drill through a concrete wall with beam? You know some hdb wall which which is indicated as black thick line on a floorplan.
Thank you
1. use wall anchors. Usually the bracket will come with anchors.
2. Yes it can punch through beams. Hdb ceiling is reinforced concrete
3. Please get a proper company to do the mounting for you. You spent thousands on a nice TV. No need to save the hundred. They are insured and warrantied so if anything happens you are protected.
@@ThePunggolHandyMan thx for your reply. Appreciate it.
Do you have to use a wallplug if you're using tapcons ?
I don't use tapcons so I can't really comment
Great instructional video. Not a big fan of the music though.
Can anyone identify the attachment / tube that went over the drill to catch the debris?

How u know when to stop drilling or the drill has finish done to 6mm? What brand and what type of drill do I buy?
If you look closely, my drill has a depth stop. Furthermore 6mm is the diameter (thickness) of the bit not the depth of the hole
Oh I installing an window blind as well as drill hole for my e27 holder... what size of drill bits and wall puck should I use ? How to determine what size should I use?
When drill on the wall, the wall cracked. What setting do I need to set? Drill , hammer or what? Confused
How big a crack? Can be many factors but one may be that the drill bit is too big. Try piloting a 5mm hole first
Hi how do i know mine is sds drill, impact drill or hammer drill?
Ummmmm. Rotary hammer drills have a knob at the side and are usually SDS collared.
U see the green one I used in my other videos thats just hammer drill.
do you have a wire in a plastic pipe on the ceiling or a metal one?
Varies... depending on who built the place
@@ThePunggolHandyMan if concrete ceiling?

hi may i know if there sis any safe and reliable way to detect live wiring in the concrete wall? Im planning to hang a few shelf for extra storage from the wall but cant seem to find a way to predict where the live wiring will be. Thank you.
Yes you need a wire detector
@@ThePunggolHandyMan hi, what model and brand would you recommend for concrete walls? Thank you.
How do you know where the rebar is?
In general, rebar is set at about 60mm deep. So do not go beyond that
What is the total weight those two screws would safely hold?
It all depends on many factors
-size of hole drilled
- size of plug
- material drilled (stone / wood /concrete
- type of screw used.
- the direction of pull
- safety factor
- static versus dynamic loading
Even If it takes 50kg to pull the plug out I wouldn't put 50kg on the plug I'll use a safety factor of 10x so I'll only put 5kg on it.
But that is preference. If I need something more robust I'll use anchors.
But this video is more on how to drill.
@@ThePunggolHandyMan Thanks. I understand there are a bunch of factors. With the two holes you drilled in the video, how much weight would you be comfortable hanging?
Don't worry, I'm not going to hang something really heavy, just looking for a real world example using the same screw size in the video.
buy a SDS drill and SDS drill bits instead , this is for Concrete , i have switched over to SDS drill and it drill concrete like butter.
You are right!
