The "ok movie you're the movie" is one of my favourite things you guys have done.. But, John thanking the movie for killing clown jobs is great too, cause that was my reaction 🤣🤣🤣
I used to work with a woman who said the job we had at the burger joint was her *"side gig"* and clowning was her main passion. Naturally, I put in my notice to management and fled the country
I feel that Spenny is really trying (and doing a good job at) stepping it up and leading now that Andy's gone. It's what it looks like onscreen to me anyway. He's more charismatic and accurate than he used to let on. Way to go Spencer.
Thank you Dan, Stranger Things is so heavily influenced by King's work that suggesting IT rips it off is laughable. They are mining the same source... Stephen King!
There is so much King in Stranger Things. I guess that's why I love this series so much. You could even say it's one of the best King adaptations out there^^
Stranger Things also heavily borrows from Twin Peaks. So imagine my seething rage, when after showing TP to a friend, she remarked, "Oh, it's just like Stranger Things"
King said in some interviews that he was heavy on cocaine and alcohol in the 80s and that it influenced his writing. I think that's the reason for some of the really really weird parts of IT.
That ending was 10/10 amazing. Very clever work by Dan, and watching the gears turn in Spencer's mind and seeing the moment it clicked was priceless!!!
He feeds on flesh but fear makes it taste better. In the book it says that fear is like salting the meat. It preys on children because their fears are more simple and therefore eaiser to manifest.
Oh no, you nailed it. He jumped the shark with the DT books. Book 5 was pretty much ok, aside from the weird Harry Potter references. But after that, dialed to 11 self indulgence. Apparently it comes down to pre and post car accident when he was hit by a van. After that, he introduced him self as a character and ruined his best work.
Trinidad Botello it probably will be unfortunately. If they can kick this clown's ass that bad as children, Penny wise doesn't stand a chance against adults. lol
Trinidad Botello I think it needs a good cast. In theory a good adult cast could work perfectly just like the kids. But,’I agree. I hope they cast it well.
Usually kids are bad actors, but the adults and their actions in the adult half weren't stellar. What you get with a Stephen King adaption is a crap shoot, especially in the 80s.
You guys out did yourselves with the title on this one “Stephen Kings” 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Plus “You’ll prank too” 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I bloody love Joe Starr Also Also “Stephen King, what the fuck!” 🤣🤣 I (also) bloody love Dan Murrell Spencer’s cool too I guess 🤣🤣🤣🤣
7:25 Beginning of "Beneath the City" chapter highlights Pennywise can't or hasn't been able to beat/eat the Loser's Club. It would explain why he suspends Beverly Marsh in stasis rather than eating her; if you notice he even has a minor convulsion which would indicate perhaps his plan to eat Beverly is unsuccessful. They are being protected by Maturin or their bond is too strong, or whatever. I'm not saying that simple moment in the movie or the first few pages of the chapter are completely bulletproofing the story behind It plot-wise or consistency wise, but it looks like that might be what happened as to why he didn't kill Beverly when he had her. Because he couldn't, because the Loser's Club doesn't know it yet but they are bad-asses.
10:48 Agreed with the changes to Mike's character. I just finished the novel today and Mike was one of the more important Losers. While all of them had some great characterdriven chapters, I do feel that even in the novel, Stanley is the one least fleshed out.
If you're looking for a "book accurate" adaptation of The Shining, the mini series Stephen King did back in the 90's was pretty good, I actually like it more than Kubrick's. Kubrick didn't seem to get (or just didn't care) that the villain of the story wasn't Jack Torrance, it was the Overlook Hotel itself.
Even in the Kubrick version you know it's the Overlook. Jack was an ok father ( I think they mentioned one incident though) but that clearly the hotel started to twist him to what he ends up being. Kubrick certainly made that clear in his adaptation.
Well done. This was my favorite movie of the year, and all time favorite book. But this made me laugh :) Also, in my opinion, like Pennywise influenced the bad things in Derry, I thought that the turtle was behind protecting the kids from Pennywise.
I think as far as Ben getting Mike's role they basically cut out most of the references to Ben wanting to be an architect (they don't build the dam, etc) but things could still change by the sequel. And in the book Stan doesn't get as much development because of what happens to him when he finds out that IT came back.
Like Dan, I too would like to see a new adaption of The Shining that is closer to the book. I would also like to see The Stand made into a movie or two.
Spenser read the dark tower series. It is by far my favorite book series I have ever read. The first one is a little slow but every book after that is fast paced and awesome.
King was on drugs when he wrote the sex scene. He doesn't even remember writing it. What I want to know is how come the editors and other people at the publishing company not question it.
The 80s was a simpler time. He wasn't on drugs writing it, and they didn't question it, because it wasn't the big paranoid deal it is today. It was no more unusual to that time period than watching people smoke on airplanes. The kids of the day weren't china dolls.
dipper so what you are saying is a gang bang scene with barely teenagers was just cool in the 80s? I’m glad we went away from thinking a grown ass adult writing a gang bang scene with barely pubescent kids is okay. I love Stephen King but holy shit was that part in the book the most bizarre in a story about a celestial turtle talking to a kid.
Well let's be clear - not *barely* pubescent, this adaptation aged them up to 13. In the books they're 11. And I don't know about 'cool', per se, but it was *art*, and people had more respect for the canvas when it came to art back then. Nothing was too far.
23:46, Here's an idea for a Screen Junkies Show episode: Stephen King's Hal (Where we take every Stephen King movie where the main monster is replaced with Hal Rudnick) The Shining (1980) - Swap out Jack Nicholson with Hal Cujo (1983) - Swap out Cujo with Hal Carrie (2013) - Swap out Carrie with Hal IT: Chapter One (2017) - Swap out Pennywise with Hal Okay, you get the picture
Mikes role in It Chapter 2 has been slightly disclosed. Theyve said that Mike will still call everyone back and be the anchor, but a new twist is his addiction to psychedelics which causes him to learn more about Pennywise, so he still provides the role of historian, just under different circumstances
So what they're saying is that the black kid and the Jewish kid get shafted on screen time for no apparent reason despite Mike having an actual bigger role *shrug* Hollywood. Disappointing, but not off brand.
Well Ben is the bookworm who spends a lot of time in the library, so they kinda combined the history stuff with that (Ben reading the history of derry book), rather than making them separate scenes and using up more time. I hate when they cut people's character development, but it makes sense kinda
Stanley is actually pretty well-represented here. He didn't have a lot of lines in the book either. He even described himself as the kid that went an entire year of school without saying anything. But yeah, Mike got totally shafted. He's basically the guy writing the story.
The prevailing theory as to why he doesn't eat the kids is because they have the Shine (Breakers, from the Dark Tower/Hearts in Atlantis), which alters how he can/has to interact with them.
I feel it necessary to say that reports on the Fukunowi (sorry for spelling) script having the tunnel scene were rumors, and apparently it's available to read online
Get Out or Silence of The Lambs or Eyes Wide Shut...if I win send my virtual gift to Joe Starr because I still think he deserved an Emmy for his Winter Soldier impression.
Panthror the director said he's gonna go with an original cast even though the actors that played Mike & Ben said they would do it. The movie is gonna be a certified hit so I can see why they would
I just said it would be cool if they got to reprise their roles, not that the studio/director should cast them. I would even say they shouldn't take any advice from me, they did a great job on this one, they'll probably do a fine job on the next one.
Fear is basically a meat tenderizer which is why he goes after kids because he can easily pinpoint fear, use it against them to "sweeten their meat" before eating them
It wasn't all that scary to me, and I am wondering if that means something is wrong with me or if I am too cynical or what. There were actually moments where I laughed because it was so silly. Pennywise krumping in the cave? It wasn't scary at all! That part where they start freaking out at the slide projector? Like...yall can't just unplug it? I was also annoyed at how drastically they sidelined the Black kid when he is actually kind of the hero of the story? The production design was great though, I can't take that away from it. But I wasn't super impressed.

Cary Juji Fukunaga directed all eight episodes of Season 1 of True Detective (2014). He's a legit director who may not be known for his work in feature film. Just saying, he ain't no clown!
So Pennywise causes disasters to create fear which he then feeds on sounds a bit like Aries from like every movie he's in he sets up a situation where he can feed on the chaos and become more powerful because because he's the God of War if you don't know what I mean look at the plot for wonder woman both the live action and animated it's almost the exact same plot
I am okay with almost everything in the book It. The Turtle, Chud rituals, all that, but yeahhh the group sex tunnel scene in the book was so unnecessary and gross and weird that it very nearly ruined the entire book for me- a book which is so epic and original, I would've loved it if not for that disgusting, pointless scene. I was dreading it the whole book, because someone warned me about it. Now I have to pretend that scene isn't in the book or just toss it.
Just rewatched the movie and saw the Batman/Lethal Weapon sign, think it's because Joker is kind of a killer clown...also I guess who could say he's a Lethal Weapon too.
Do The Mist Movie!!! Also True Detective!!!! I absolutely love you guys btw!!!! Sorry about what happened but you guys haven't taken a step back what-so-ever.
Pennywise/Robert Gray/IT doesn't feed off fear; IT feeds off belief (and imagination -- for kids, this is the same, the book contends). IT is a malevolent inter-dimensional being. It doesn't need an emotion, and the movie telegraphing that constantly became tiring and immersion-disrupting.
What's weird is even in the book Richie is described as an adult as someone who does cocaine many times (I think the book states like 10 times just in the last year or something). As much as I like the weird Stephen King stuff, like how high must you be to not know you are writing a character that's a drug addict when you yourself is one?
Dan: "Good job editors."
Spencer: "You're not watching, but good job."
Joe: "Get back to work if you are." 🤣
The "ok movie you're the movie" is one of my favourite things you guys have done.. But, John thanking the movie for killing clown jobs is great too, cause that was my reaction 🤣🤣🤣
Felicia Bernier It's a genius line.
I used to work with a woman who said the job we had at the burger joint was her *"side gig"* and clowning was her main passion. Naturally, I put in my notice to management and fled the country
The Epic Movie voice guy is so great. Not to pick on the guys but sometimes a joke is only funny because of the way he delivers it. Good job John!
I feel that Spenny is really trying (and doing a good job at) stepping it up and leading now that Andy's gone. It's what it looks like onscreen to me anyway. He's more charismatic and accurate than he used to let on. Way to go Spencer.
"Ok movie, you're the movie". You said you'd put it in one of these trailers.
When did they originally say that? I want to find the original clip
rbd318 Boss Baby commentary? I'm not entirely sure.
I need that line in every honest trailer now
I'm almost certain it was in the Jumangi commentary :)
they need to put that on a t-shirt!
Thank you Dan, Stranger Things is so heavily influenced by King's work that suggesting IT rips it off is laughable. They are mining the same source... Stephen King!
Yeah Stranger Things is basically a combination of It, Stand By Me and ET, with a hint of Goonies.
There is so much King in Stranger Things. I guess that's why I love this series so much. You could even say it's one of the best King adaptations out there^^

Best part is the end. Spencer thinks for 2 solid minutes....
Joe:
"Alright let's get out"
Spencer:
"I total nailed it"
Me: dies
That ending was 10/10 amazing. Very clever work by Dan, and watching the gears turn in Spencer's mind and seeing the moment it clicked was priceless!!!
He feeds on flesh but fear makes it taste better. In the book it says that fear is like salting the meat. It preys on children because their fears are more simple and therefore eaiser to manifest.
Dermot McDermott so it’s like adding salt to your fries? It just makes it taste better?
Dan, I love your boring editor's notes. It's why I watch the Commentaries.
"It's very strange. It's odd. It's weird." - Dan, 2018
If IT Chapter 2 is bad, it will prove that 'Adults are boring' and 'Kids are awesome'.
Trinidad Botello even in the book the adult part is not so creepy like the part with the kids
Trinidad Botello
Fair point
Trinidad Botello it probably will be unfortunately. If they can kick this clown's ass that bad as children, Penny wise doesn't stand a chance against adults. lol

The Hal Rudnick joke was 10/10
I didn't get it :'(
Akbar Khalid Hal likes to do the Pennywise voice when he's on screenjunkies news.
Oh, thanks :)
"Nailed it." It's dumb... but you guys always make me laugh.
*GONE WITH THE WIND* HONEST TRAILER
I love these videos:) so glad you guys are here to let me forget my drab wretched life for a while:)

Finn was cast on IT before Stranger Things was even cast.
@Mel M - Just let us have this.
Based on the trailers and this video, Port Hope Ontario (where a good chunk of the movie was filmed) is the real star as the stand-in for Derry.
If you're looking for a "book accurate" adaptation of The Shining, the mini series Stephen King did back in the 90's was pretty good, I actually like it more than Kubrick's. All I can think of now is Dana Carvey from Master's of Disguise being the God-Turtle. "Am I not turtle-y enough for the turtle club?"
Thank you Dan for going into the book!!! Love it!
Please do Logan Lucky, my favorite underrated movie of the year
Sam Benson-Devine yes i loved it too!
Sam Benson-Devine I am incarcerated
Well done. This was my favorite movie of the year, and all time favorite book. But this made me laugh :)
Also, in my opinion, like Pennywise influenced the bad things in Derry, I thought that the turtle was behind protecting the kids from Pennywise.
Nice Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer reference, Dan! I had to rewind and rewatch that segment. Brilliant!
Do a trailer for the original now since you've already put in some of the work. I'd love to see that.
let me guess, next week's honest trailer is get out?
I wish they kept the hal rudnick joke
HAHAHA HAL RUDNICK!!!
I think as far as Ben getting Mike's role they basically cut out most of the references to Ben wanting to be an architect (they don't build the dam, etc) but things could still change by the sequel. Like Dan, I too would like to see a new adaption of The Shining that is closer to the book. I would also like to see The Stand made into a movie or two.
The Stand yes, The Shining no. Kubricks version is too iconic
That "Me personally? Very cool..."
Spenser read the dark tower series. It is by far my favorite book series I have ever read. The first one is a little slow but every book after that is fast paced and awesome.
I live for u three guys and this sort of content. Keep up the great work

Interesting to watch this in 2019 after you have done the Honest Trailer for the 1990 miniseries and “It: Chapter 2” is in theatres.
The bit wheat he waves with the disembodied hand had me cracking up.
Casablanca Honest Trailer!!!
5:30 R.I.P. Harry Anderson.
Good call on still having a good version of The Shining that is more book accurate that could be made.
yeah! a get out honest trailer next!
they should have kept, "killer clown from outer space."
23:46, Here's an idea for a Screen Junkies Show episode: Stephen King's Hal (Where we take every Stephen King movie where the main monster is replaced with Hal Rudnick)
The Shining (1980) - Swap out Jack Nicholson with Hal
Cujo (1983) - Swap out Cujo with Hal
Carrie (2013) - Swap out Carrie with Hal
IT: Chapter One (2017) - Swap out Pennywise with Hal
Okay, you get the picture
@6:05 when he asks "what is that one?" It is from "The Langoliers" which was a TV adaptation.
Does anybody remember what video 'Ok movie, you're the movie' originally came from?
Dan here - it was a cut line from the Jumanji Honest Trailer that we were able to work into this one. Thanks for watching! - DM
Well now I know what I need to watch this weekend.
Mikes role in It Chapter 2 has been slightly disclosed. Theyve said that Mike will still call everyone back and be the anchor, but a new twist is his addiction to psychedelics which causes him to learn more about Pennywise, so he still provides the role of historian, just under different circumstances
Spencer said "run train" 😂😂
Really love these videos :)))
So what they're saying is that the black kid and the Jewish kid get shafted on screen time for no apparent reason despite Mike having an actual bigger role

I feel it necessary to say that reports on the Fukunowi (sorry for spelling) script having the tunnel scene were rumors, and apparently it's available to read online
Props to Dan for the UNFROZEN CAVEMAN LAWYER gag.
Yes! I can't wait for next weeks honest trailer
Do a Dan Noticed segment also
Get Out or Silence of The Lambs or Eyes Wide Shut...if I win send my virtual gift to Joe Starr because I still think he deserved an Emmy for his Winter Soldier impression.
How about the kids from the TV-series playing the adults in the new one? That'd be cool.
Seth Green still looks like a kid though.
Jonathan Brandis, who played Bill, died :(
Panthror the director said he's gonna go with an original cast even though the actors that played Mike & Ben said they would do it. The movie is gonna be a certified hit so I can see why they would
I just said it would be cool if they got to reprise their roles, not that the studio/director should cast them. I would even say they shouldn't take any advice from me, they did a great job on this one, they'll probably do a fine job on the next one.
Panthror I'm just saying it's actually been in the talks so you weren't far off.
Dan's Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer reference FTW
Please do an Honest Trailer for Honest Trailers Commentaries!!! SO META
Please why didn’t you keep the Hal Rudnick joke. I would’ve loved It!!!! Hahahaha
Fear is basically a meat tenderizer which is why he goes after kids because he can easily pinpoint fear, use it against them to "sweeten their meat" before eating them
Do The Langoliers Honest Trailers!!!
He eats the kids, the fear “salts the flesh”
Yes, please read Dark Tower everyone! So good!
Didnt Joe said in It 2 that he didnt like this one too?
I think, IT is one of my favorite horror movies.
Does anyone have any pics of (or links about) the scary people with balloons at Comic-Con that they reference in this video? I'm really curious!
9:26
i think they "switched" mike and bens roles, because mikes role was technically "cut in two."
not only was mike the historian in the kid half, he was also the "town guardian" in the adult half. having two roles. ben meanwhile had nothing but fat kid role.
so now Ben gets important historian for kid half, mike with nothing. then it switches for adult half with ben having nothing and mike getting the important guardian role who sends out the alarm.
I think the more afraid the victims are the tastier they are
Cary Juji Fukunaga directed all eight episodes of Season 1 of True Detective (2014). He's a legit director who may not be known for his work in feature film. Just saying, he ain't no clown!
Wish they made a new Salem's Lot. Such a rich story and excellent re imagining of Dracula in America.
Argg! I can't tell if they are saying it or "it"!
The Duffer Brothers were developing IT, dropped from production, and wrote Stranger Things.
You guys should make a honest trailers of the movie Halo forward unto dawn
I am okay with almost everything in the book It. The Turtle, Chud rituals, all that, but yeahhh the group sex tunnel scene in the book was so unnecessary and gross and weird that it very nearly ruined the entire book for me- a book which is so epic and original, I would've loved it if not for that disgusting, pointless scene. I was dreading it the whole book, because someone warned me about it. Now I have to pretend that scene isn't in the book or just toss it.
Do a UNBREAKABLE honest trailer!..please!..love that movie.
Guys, do the TV version! 😊
Do an honest trailer for watership down plz
We all flow down here
Just rewatched the movie and saw the Batman/Lethal Weapon sign, think it's because Joker is kind of a killer clown...also I guess who could say he's a Lethal Weapon too.
the director also did Mama :)
The novel makes this really clear, and the movie would have benefited from that distinction. It got really boring to keep hearing IT saying "Fear, fear, fear, fear, fear." IT is a malevolent inter-dimensional being. It doesn't need an emotion, and the movie telegraphing that constantly became tiring and immersion-disrupting.
I still have a pair of Jenco's somwhere.
Honest trailer - Doctor Who
I knew that one of these fan voted trailers was gonna be Get Out!
OOOoooo, you get the guys who played the kids in the original IT to play the adults in IT Chapter 2.
David Jolly the guy who played Bill, Brandon, died many years ago though :(
Honest trailer Joe's Apartment. Not the movie literally Joe's Apartment.
"Nailed IT!"
What's weird is even in the book Richie is described as an adult as someone who does cocaine many times (I think the book states like 10 times just in the last year or something). As much as I like the weird Stephen King stuff, like how high must you be to not know you are writing a character that's a drug addict when you yourself is one?
watching this while editing a scene that is just a track shot of a red balloon... nice
More of dan because he read the fucking book! Loved his opinion
