Cost Benefit Analysis: A Tool To Support The Combatting of Illegal Wildlife Trade in Namibia

  • Do you know how much it costs to protect wildlife?
    NNF and Conservation Strategy Fund conducted a cost-benefit analysis of fighting IWT in Namibia and estimated that about N$250 million is spent by the Government, NGOs, Private Sector, and Conservancies to protect rhinos and elephants against poaching. If these investments were to stop, Namibia could expect economic losses of about N$5.4 billion over ten years. On the other hand, if poaching was successfully curbed, economic benefits are expected to increase by more than N$3.7 billion over ten years.
