Paul still makes me smile. I knew him well and lived in his house for two years when he was in Pasadena. Almost every dinner was a chance to talk golf. He taught me so many lessons with a fork in his hand!
Ms. Brugman....You were fortunate to have spent time around the dinner table with a person of Paul Runyans knowledge and experience . Mr. Phillips Canada
Andy - Thanks for finding and posting this video. I was fortunate to have quite a few lessons with Paul when I was a junior player and this presentation brought back memories of his precision and dedication of his craft. I still get snarky comments about my style of chipping but nobody argues the results - just what Paul ( I think ) would appreciate!
Wonderful command of the game and the English language at 82 years of age. He may have been the best "Short Game" player to ever play the game of golf...
I have been reading and watching Paul Runyans books and clips for the last two years. My chipping has improved and so has my pitching. My scores have fallen 2-3 strokes around.
I would have loved to have been given short-game lessons by Mr Runyan. His record shows him to have been an excellent player but he seems to have been an even better instructor.
Listen to this guy - Paul Runyan, the great "Little Poison" Short Game Master. He was so good around the greens, he beat the great Sam Snead "The Slammer" several times in match play - Even though Snead would typically out drive Runyan by 70 yards..
I have a saying that "great players do not necessarily great teachers make" . That holds true for 99.99 percent of past, and present, tour players. Paul was one of the .01 percent. RIP Little Poison .

The only quibble with Mr Runyans ideas are those re YIPS. It is much more specific and logical than "fear of outcome". it has a physical and neurological basis. Unfortunately much golf instruction breeds the yips, unknowingly. My instructor , Gerry Hogan, author of " The Hogan Manual of Human Performance: GOLF, 1991" is the only person I know who did the research to come up with the very logical explanation and remedy.
if u practice this 2 hours a day, 7 days a week, year around it will greatly improve your golf game. who do you know that will do that. Most golfers cannot break 100. that is "most" golfers. I know none of them will do that. This guy reminds me of clint eastwood. He wants to make movies wherein he is the star when he is fucking 100 years old. go retire old man
This man was a shortgame genius and a two time Major Championship winner. Why don't you take 20 minutes a day and practice just one of his instructions? That might give you deeper insight into other aspects of your game. Stop being negative. You sound like a twat. And you're lucky you never had to play against him. He'd have eaten you alive. I do hope though, that you wind up playing against someone who has done well by his instructions so you can pay for your ill speak of the dead.

So much wisdom is acquired by playing for so long and against so many different great players.
Excellent presentation by Paul Runyan...every teacher can benefit from this video and their students will also.

He is talking about Strokes Gained before anyone knew the term. Incredible!
I'm just beginning to be Runyanized. I am loving every cut stroke. R.I.P. Lil' Poison.
i've had paul runyan's short game book for years and still use it, it's like a bible for golf.
Golf royalty, thank you sir.
Genius of this time.

Split handed chipping improved my ball contact off tight lies. Very useful shot.

What was it like playing golf with Paul Runtan?
Mr. Phillips
Canada
Can you imagine Pinehurst with sand greens?
I may be mistaken but didn't Nicklaus chip this way? Great video
Phil Rogers adopted the Runyan method.
@@dtgps it's really cool that Paul's work is right here on RUclips. The consummate short game guru.

He passed away several years ago and was one of the best short game players ever. Sam Snead even said so.
