Hey I really like your SP N scale Layout and I like that SP Piggyback Train hey Did you My Favorite Western Railroad is the SP and it's sister railroad which is the Cotton Belt Railroad in years of 1960s 1970s 1980s and the early 1990s
As a person who knows nothing about trains I’m deeply fascinated with the history of the railroads in San Francisco. I appreciate your attention to detail John and your love of the hobby. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Joe! Thank you! It is a lot of fun for me in trying to ‘redo’ the past here in town… So many neat things and scenes to try and ‘replicate’. (If only I had more room to do more, eh??) Thanks for looking in!!
You are most welcome! I’ve got other videos posted of the Scotia Bluffs and the “Petaluma” side of the layout as well, should you be interested. I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for looking in, David!
Awesome video John. Beautiful piggyback train through amazing Californian scenery. Must have been an awesome sight to see these operating between San Francisco and Los Angeles in the 50’s. Really enjoyed the train action and your narration. Cheers, Brad.
Thank you, Brad. The ‘pigs’ were an interesting sight… Imagining how loading all those trailers - one by one - could be so much more efficient - and faster - for LCL freight really exhibits how much ‘slower’ the world was back then, eh? Thanks again for looking in! Cheers to you as well!
Thank you, Jerry. I’ve tried to replicate at least some of the actual buildings that make up the area. It’s been a good deal of fun!! Thanks again for looking in!
Such a cool 😎 video John. Love those piggybacks. Never mind the North Western Pacific right of way. Even though your layout has a significant footprint, there’s always something we have our preference for when we model our depiction of the world. So nice to hear the part of historical background on the piggybacks. That’s what makes your vids with comments truly stand out.
Thank you, Vincent. Yes… while it’s quite correct that the NWP never saw piggyback trains such as this, I have seen a TOFC sitting in Willits. (But I appreciate your ‘looking the other way’ as this train worked its way along the Eel River canyon!) And you’re completely right… (as you recognize) we all collect so much stuff that we could only ‘wish’ to model and run, we are - in the end - ‘forced’ to ‘include’ our ‘stuff’ into some scenes that we have to ‘imagine’. (The best example on this layout is to have a train run in front of the Ferry Building only to ‘emerge’ at the Scotia Bluffs - hundreds of miles away!!) So… with a little (a LOT) of imagination… 😊 Thanks again for looking in!
Fantastic video John! I remember when you posted this video I just don’t know where my comment went to. I must’ve just thought I was commenting and actually didn’t make a comment but anyways very amazing job again especially narrating your videos you almost remind me of Great Mr. Rogers! I looked up to him and his videos like I do to you and your videos 😀😀😀👍
Thank you, Sean! I’ve had that happen as well (trying to leave a comment). Glad you enjoyed it! I continue to enjoy watching yours. So many great shots of so many great trains!! Keep it up!!!!
Gorgeous layout. I have subbed. I have some of those very TOFC cars. A little old for my era generally 80s/90s, but sometimes I run 'em with older units for fun.
Thanks, Scot! It’s funny (I guess?) … I realize I’m getting ‘old’… but it still ‘seems like yesterday’ when these old TOFC’s were running! “Containers” ???? “What are they?????” Thanks for looking in! (… and for the look into ‘the past’ !!!) (Guess mine is the ‘geriatrics/ history’ channel !) Very glad you enjoyed it!
@@johnpetrovitz935 LOL I know what you mean. I run my 70s Southern Railway trains that I saw as a teenager and feel Father Time with his hand on the throttle. Thanks for watching, John. Scott
Congratulations John on finally meeting my friend John Abatecola from TSG Multimedia to film your incredible layout today - August 24, 2024- for an upcoming RUclips video on his channel. I’m so glad that my efforts a couple of years or so ago to bring you both together finally resulted in your meeting today. Your layout is an N scale masterpiece and deserves greater exposure in the worldwide model rail community. I’ve noticed that you haven’t posted any new layout videos on your RUclips channel for the past few months. I hope your health is alright. Do you plan to post any soon? We, your subscribers, really miss those videos. Take care always John and, again, congratulations! -from Thomas Lincoln Pilling
@@ATSFVentaSpurNscaler Thank you, Thomas! Yes… it was ‘some time in the making but it was wonderful having them over. Thank you for helping I make it happen. Hope things are going well there. All the best to you!
Hi John: The Overnight’s final make up may have been done nightly at about 6pm at Bayshore Yard? I remember seeing many of the silver boxcars with “Overnight” lettering at the yard looking down from near Schlage Lock. Maybe You can add a few of those? Thanks for another great video. George
I am gonna put something together with the ‘Overnites’. It’s in the works. I wish I had a place to model Schlage Lock. That would indeed provide a great vantage point, eh? Thanks again for looking in!

If this excellent modeling and beautiful scenery (also well photographed, I might add) doesn't allow any modeler to let their imagination soar they may be in the wrong hobby. Thank you for sharing and it was anything but boring!
Thanks so much, Rick for the very kind comment. It really is my wish to help ‘inspire’ others. You hit the nail on the head: we need to let our imaginations ‘take off’ and then try to pursue them! Hoping that these ‘shots’ will encourage others! Thank you very much for looking in! I hope we all enjoy the ‘right’ hobby - whatever that might be (but, of course, I hope it’s trains!!!!) (I must admit… I found myself ‘counting trailers last night!)

Man, I just looked at the pics I took of your awesome layout. That was ten years ago. I was just starting N scale.
