abyss is actually a connection to the8's recent single "hai cheng", the ending bit in abyss is the chorus from hai cheng which is a song dedicated to his hometown, a place he recently got to visit again in a long time
Hai Cheng also literally means Sea City, so I wonder if there's a symbolic connection as rather than by the beach in Hai Cheng, he's now fallen into a watery abyss.
4:44 the song that you can hear here is actually Minghao’s single “Hai Cheng” that he released recently. You should check it out! It’s absolutely beautiful! Also, Seventeen just released their first full English group song “Darling” an hour ago, in case you didn’t know!
I really wished you to reacted to Hai Cheng first before this because Abyss has a connection to it. The intro and ending was a lyric from the song and the instrumental in the middle is also from Hai Cheng. Some of the choreography here are also in Hai Cheng so I assume that this is what happened to him after Hai Cheng, after he got hit by the wave at the end of the MV.
he’s seriously so good at contemporary art and to think he was able to transition to it from bboy as well the complete opposite of elegance this man is on a whole other level he is the definition of grace and i can’t wait to see him go further he’s only just begun, also check out Hai Cheng it’s equally as amazing!
minghao is really hands-on with his solos. he's always involved from the concept, to choreography, to the way it's shot. behind the scene vids usually show him telling the director how he wants show the dance, focusing on expressing the concept he has on mind. he's a gem.
This is quite elegant, graceful and delicate. From his full body down to his fingers..brought me to tears with the sheer beauty. Never seen anything like this from an idol. Further expands the genera. When I say kpop is more than some realize here in u.s. this is what I mean. No words.
Honestly and truely I cried at the end when I connected the dots and heard Hai Cheng (his previous release). I cried the same way when Falling Down came out. I'm a sucker for this project he's going for. Not only he is one of my biases in Seventeen but he also is dancing to my favorite dance genre.
in inside seventeen the8 said that he actually direct this, i think that's why the video convey the exact message he want to say, thankyou fot this reaction!! it's so beautiful
I know nothing about dance, but The 8's video was so mesmerizing. I got teary eyed again at the scene where the girl vanished (just like the first time I saw the video). P.S. IMO you explained the technical stuff very clearly, Jeff.
Hi, Jeff! Thanks for this! ❤️ Being a 8star myself... 🎱🐸 .... Minghao's Hai Cheng, the Chinese version (coz Woozi wrote the Korean version from Minghao's desired lyrics, and it has a slightly different thought) is about leaving his hometown and going someplace to achieve his dreams and goals, and the song is for all those dreamers working hard to achieve their dreams. And it's also a song dedicated to his mom, who is his primary dance partner in real life. (They always upload videos of them dancing together, whenever Hao gets to travel back to China, which has only been less than a handful of times, so we only have a couple.of these vids.) And this is funny coz when the MV came out some carats were like, "oh there's a girl, it's a love song!" but 8stars knew it was about his mom, and true enough he confirmed in an interview the song was dedicated to his mom (who is an amazing woman btw ❤️)
Thank you so much for reacting to this!! It was beautifully shot and wonderfully performed. I live for your enthusiasm as you were watching this!! You screaming as small as possible or trying to stop mid-scream so you can still keep focused is my favorite. THE8's dancing always pulls me in. It's also a great introduction into his solo 'hai cheng.' I know some people were saying they wished you had seen Hai Cheng first, but I think this is also a great way to be introduced to the vibe of this combination of art pieces. Hai Cheng's MV also does have dance in it, but it's not throughout so do with that what you will in terms of deciding to check it out or not. I hope you're able to, but if not, all good. It's a really ethereal, melancholy, beautiful piece overall. I would absolutely recommend it
hope you will react to Hai Cheng as well! Reli like to see how much the8 participated every single bit of it, from composing to lyrics writing to music video production - it's like telling a story of his own thru different lenses of art
Such beautiful choreography and The8 so clever. I agree with the you about Contemporary dance, I don’t know a lot about it but it’s so artistic. I used to love ❤️ SYTYCD and contemporary was always my favourite part of the show. It was fabulous reality TV, I miss it. The8 has put so much into this and it’s just gorgeous
have you listen to Hai Cheng, jeff? what’s your opinions about it? because minghao would never say anything cause he want us understand and feel the story ourselves… so just want to know your interpretation as a dancer☺️
Hi Jeff, I recently fell in love with your reaction videos, specially for Seventeen. Love your professional comments! I was wondering if you have seen the song “My I” by Jun and The8. It’s an old song but I recently became obsessed with it, specially with it’s choreography. I don’t think it has complete practice video but the MV shows almost every part of it. (TMI: Jun and The8 wrote the song and choreographed the dance) Hope you can check it out and love it.
im not sure if you caught it but there are actually parallels to his previous works, especially the Falling Down choreography! and like the rest mentioned, it is actually building off his recent single release Haicheng!
15:45 that ik all about, my dance team is currently making a dance to a song called "dark forces" by the Allegorist, and let me tell you, the amounts of time I have missed the timing of the beginnging is frustrating haha and I'm the one starting that everyone follows for when they begin hehe..
They have a new released song Darl+ing if you can please react to it or their performance in MTVFreshOut. Thank you. Abyss is a continuation I think of Hai Cheng which is The8 new song you should react to it, cause it's so good.
Jeff, PLEASE PLEASE react to XG's oficial debut Tippy Toes. They have a performance version of the mv, a moving version and a fixed version dance practice. Also, the members have individual videos dancing that were published near their debut time, I'm SURE you're going to like as they have many different styles of dancing. Check it out please

The8 is the most elegant dancer I have seen in kpop!❤
I just discovered the8 and I’m obsessed with him!! His movement is so beautiful and he’s such an angel!!! Pure art!!!
The way he put the lyrics of his new single Hai Cheng at the end is ✨PERFECT✨

Him dancing on the wall reminded me of that time he danced an entire piece on the floor looking like he was floating

minghao’s dancing is pure art, he’s one of my favorite dancers in kpop 👏🏻
Minghao is the definition of art!
Also listen to his song Hai Cheng!! Its so good and emotional!
You commented on the talent of the director... The 8 directed this piece as well
I mostly created choreography to instrumental music and you’re correct; words are easier. Having great dancers helps to get your idea across.
The movements are very Graham & Dunham. Beautiful
