Nice street running shots... makes me wish I grew up along those tracks as a kid. I need to make a railfan trip to Winona someday - lots of industrial trackage there I didn't know existed, and lots of MILW and CNW history.
@@SD457500 I didn't know the Milwaukee Road had street running in Winona. I had always thought the MILW was famous for street running in Bellevue and Lansing in Iowa.
Winona also had the Green Bay & Western's tracks coming in from Wisconsin. The GBW used the CNW's bridge over the Mississippi to get to Winona because it did not have a bridge of its own. But now in today's modern era the GBW is no more; its western terminus is Merrillan where successor CN connects with Union Pacific's former CNW in that town.
Lots of great scenic shots at start of video. Street portion of the railway reminds me of our street running train in Brantford Burfor Spur, except more of the tracks are properly paved here. That's something I wish had Brantford would have done.
Thank you very much! I appreciate the kinda words on the video! The street running track is pretty neat for Winona, and when this was shot, the track had recently been redone too. It'll be around for a long while to come.
The street running may have been on what was originally CB&Q track from the East Winona yard. Rode a Q steam excursion from Minneapolis to Winona in the late 50s that crossed to Winona (using a diesel from the yard) to somewhere in the city for a picnic lunch.
yeah I wasn't around when the actual tower was up and running, sadly. By the time I hired on back in 93, all the towers CNW had around the areas I worked were long gone. But interestingly enough, along some routes, you can see the actual steel rods they used to pull the old "Armstrong" levers from the towers. Seeing that was cool.
Very nice and interesting video! Great camera work and movements train report! If you want see my videos and review or subscribe. Greetings from Italy. Ciao, Stefano :-)

Thanks for the comment! Winona has a lot of neat areas to shoot, and the street running portion is really cool.
SD457500 How often do trains go on those tracks, I live near Winona and I've seen those traccks before but have never seen a train on them

Really nice vid. Worked in winona during my time on the CNW. Ate at a really nice place during a layover there called the hot fish shop. Good food.
I appreciate the comment! I hope this video brought back some good memories for you. I bet Tower CK has changed a bit since the CNW days.
Unfortunately, the Hot Fish Shop is long gone.....
That's too bad. That was a good place.

Nicely done!
Thanks for the comment! It was great to see it street running too!
4:54 I'd actually love to live in that house
Me too
How often does the Winona Local run? Does it come from St. Paul or La Crosse?
Is the entire town a quiet zone?
Thanks for watching! Yes, all of Winona is a quiet zone these days except for a crossing or two on the east side of town.
SD457500 sure thing, thanks for the excellent videos and quick reply.
Railroad crossing, look out for the car can you spell that without any "Rs"!
Thanks for the comment! That stretch of track in Winona is pretty neat!

Thank you for the comment, and I'm glad that you enjoyed it! Winona, and the River Sub, have a lot to offer a person who enjoys trains.
