"Demetrius is where the Antigonid dynasty really took off". Demetrius actually marks the low point of the dynasty. He did manage to become King of Macedon, not by ousting Cassander (he had died), but Cassander's squabbling sons. However, he ended his life as a prisoner of war for the Seleucids after a failed bid to reconquer his father's old eastern possessions. When he finally did die, having drunk himself to death, his son and heir Antigonus II Gonatas barely had a toehold in the Hellenistic power scheme (I believe he only held "the fetters of Greece", the three fortified points of Chalcis, Corinth and Demetrias). It was only after taking advantage of the confusion following the death of Ptolemy Ceranus and later of Pyrrhus of Epirus that he was able to establish the Antigonids on a more permanent footing as the new royal house of Macedon.
Little correction, sir. Antigonus the first, the old "One eye" was NOT companion of Alexander, he was companion of Phillip and along Antipater and Parmenyon part of the old guard, that Alexander sought to replace with his kinsmen. Alexander left Antigonus in Anatolia (Turkey) to deal with logistics and local rebels. He couldnt foresee, that he left behind perhaps his most gifted general. When the other generals started to partition empire at Babylon, Antigonus straight up ignored them and asked Antipater (regent of Macedon) for more troops. The request was granted and the rest is history. ALL of the other Diadochi had to join arms to subdue him after twenty years of war.
Antigonids are literal definition of "self-made" men. They were all quite different in temperament and all of them aimed high and at times fall low. If not for Rome, Macedon might have been Prussia of antiquity.
All of the successors called themselves Macedon and saw themselves as the true rulers of Alexander`s Empire... Just an FYI. Best just to call them by their House names.

Massive over simplifications straddling the border of being outright wrong at best. Did you spend more than 10 minutes reading the sources for this video? For a video about the antigonids you go into exactly zero detail about ANTIGONUS and make such a oversimplification of the story of Demetrius it’s criminal. Seriously I don’t think you could have gone into lesser detail about their lives. If you really want to learn about this dynasty Wikipedia is 1000% better then this video
Cato's propaganda that Carthage has a scattered network of killers that must be stopped and brought to justice , Roman Justice to justify his plundering of Carthage and to keep the civilian citizens of Rome free and to enjoy his new collection of gold gilded mirrors. Sound familiar ? Nothing changes.

Who else dislikes Cassander the most from the post-Alexander strategs?
Why
@@DarthxLunaprobbaly because he MURDERED Alexander’s son and wife! When it was his job to protect them!
@@DarthxLuna He killed Alexander IV
He would have been nothing without his father Antipater.
Cassander betrayed the empire basically... killing the true heir Alexander's son, he deserves nothing
Diadochi (Διάδοχοι) literally translates to Succesors.
The word was made for gustav droysen
Ancient Greek is a very literal language. I spent three months attempting to learn it and failed lol
@@AncientHistoryGuy Yes, it is hard! I studied it for six years at school, barely can translate an unknown text.
