- Imo Essien fell to the ground during Old Dominion's road game at Georgia Southern. Trainers from both programs tended to the sophomore, who was evaluated, was responsive, and after being helped to hit feet, rejoined his team during halftime and sat on the bench the remainder of the game.

Players may have collapsed in the past for various reasons (cramps, dehydration, food poisoning, mainly in individual sports like Tennis and running, etc.). However, very few players collapsed and died with such frequency as we've seen.
Remember, Hank Gathers; Len Bias and Reggie Lewis, were years part.
This is all happening rapid fire sine 2021 concurrently.
Of course, players always collapsed due to leg injuries (which I'm not counting for obvious reasons), and football players used to collapse and occasionally die during hot summer practices after a long off season. But not on the football field. Last player in NFL was 1971; he had blood clots, and collapsed while walking onto or off the field. No cases of Commotio Cortis in the NFL either.
Hank Gathers and Reggie Lewis were the only like this for years. They had heart problems. It is every week now.

Speaking about that: The Buffalo Bills announcer, John Murphy had a stroke the same day DH suffered his cardiac arrest on the field. Yes, that's true. And they didn't tell us about that one till Friday (and Murphy's brothers Heart Attack Dec 2020, could have been shaky as well, but we'll leave that alone for now). Let's not forget: One of Damar's Teammates, Dawson Knox, Brother Died Suddenly (22 yr old Florida International Football Player, Luke Knox) last year, and assistant coach Adam Zimmer of Cincinnati (the team that was playing Buffalo on Monday Night), 'Died Suddenly' at 38 years last year as well. No contact needed. You can't make any of this up. Unfortunately, it's absurdly, quixotically real since 2021!!

Ashari Hughes had a known heart problem according to her family. They thought she was OK playing flag football. John Murphy is 67 years old so a stroke is not rare his age. Luke Knox did not die on the field. His cause of death was not released, which could mean that it was some kind of drug overdose or alcohol poisoning. Adam Zimmer died from chronic alcohol use disorder.
