You forgot a major importance to many consumers of v8’s. The simplicity. Some of us don’t want a small displacement engine that’s being pushed to its limits with turbos and other complex components that are prone to failure. The sound is also important to me 😂

Simpler solution... Stop using fucking 20 weight oil. The 4.3L ecotec3 is the same as the v8's only difference is it used 30 weight oils and no lifter failures. It's a hydraulic system, it needs good oil to function properly. The fact the oil changes are so stretched out means it thins and breaks down. That's the cause. If they just clearanced the engine for 30 weight oils they would solve over 90% of the failures.

Can you believe the first small block was designed so well that it was in production for 39-40 years? A hundred million of them ended up in anything that had wheels. Easy to modify and so simple, just hook up a couple wires and a fuel line and go. My first was a 283 and now I'm up to a 421 and love it. I still have a 283, 350 and a 400 all complete original engines and a couple powerglides on hand. Unfortunately I had a 327, a 4 speed and 4 powerglides stolen from a storage trailer a couple years ago. Sold to by drugs no doubt. I just hope they got used and not scrapped.

This is like the next wave of LS's going into trucks and SUVs, they're continuing to build on that LS nostalgia of being able to pull a engine out of a work truck and sticking it in an old school and make a ton of power, they're giving it to us again , That's smart for a lot of reasons.

Look what Ford did.. they went backwards with the Godzilla 7.3 pushrod V8. Hadn't produced a pushrod in decades. The small block pushrod has been it's simplicity, with less cost & easier maintenance. Easier payment to the consumer at an auto shop, when the engine has higher mileage, because of fewer parts to replace in regards to the pushrod V8. I am predicting a newer displacement than the 5.3 & 6.2.

GM is doing this because of those new emission standards supposedly coming, why pay emission fines when you can engineer a new better V8, we know it going in the full-size pickups and the Chevy and GMC full-size body-on-frame SUVs, and I've even heard of a rumor the next-gen Corvette C9 may get it, but not any Cadillac model, all future Cadillac models are supposedly are going electric, even though there's an upcoming XT4 coming, I guess Cadillac means new name models, it's all about GM protecting their profit machines until they can convince their buyers to make the switch from ICE to EVs, ICE models, especially V8 ones have a good 3 to 5 left hopefully, anyway, it does make one wonder, could Chevy get their hand on the Cadillac CT6 (it is still offered in the Chinese market) Omega platform and drop that new-gen V8 and call it Impala, think about it, a base with 500+ hp Impala (RWD) and a hybrid V8 Impala SS (AWD) with 650+ hp, for the life of me, this is GM's coup de grâce for the V8, you kind of figured GM would do this, it makes sense, the interesting thing is, it will supposedly offer better performance vs the competition, ok, big words, the HO 3.0 I6 turbo Hurricane engine in the Jeep a Grand Wagoneer is almost as quick as the Cadillac Escalade V-Series, just saying, which means GM next-gen OHV V8 max performance engine would have to run to 60 in under 5 seconds, as for EVs, they could easily increase the towing range and charging speeds (now, if they wanted to), it almost feels like they're holding back, for some reason (profitable), those full-size EV pickups and SUVs battery pack aren't small or cheap, just saying

Show me a 400 plus hp 4 cylinder in a production car and let’s see how long it lasts a long time under high load and I’ll trade in a v8 for it… maybe. Most of the engines going he distance are truck engines with extra cylinders and de powered for such consistent results long term

Having owned an Eco Boost Ford 150 and GM 6.0 trucks I don't see how these manufacturers can move away from V-8s. When I put a trailer behind my F150 and hit the interstate, it was third gear and 3000 or 4000 RPM to maintain speed. The 6.0 did better, but there was still a lot of gear changing. My best tow truck is a 2000 GMC with a 7.4, put 10,000 pounds on a trailer and it just pulls it, no drama and no excessive gear changing. The 7.4 is rated 95 to 105 horsepower less than the Ford or GM trucks. Where the 7.4 shines is the 450 ft/lb of torque!

I call BS on this. First I will say, I am not a Ford “Fanboy”, but a truck enthusiast. Came from a 6.0 with the 6 speed in a 2016 and went to and now drive a 3.5 EcoBoost with the 10 speed. The Ecoboost rocks what the Chevy had - 470 ft-lb of torque in my EcoBoost. Ecoboost has 3.55 gearing, and my HD had 4.10s. My HD pulled good, but the F150 pulls better. There is no way a 2000 454 is pulling as good as either. Just my take, I’ll call BS on your comment.
Looking forward to this new v8 from Chevy. Let’s hope they don’t pull the cylinder deactivation, and use stronger internal components. Maybe some forged internals?
