Probably one of the best finished and quality looking watches I've ever seen 😮😮👀👀 have to agree with the reviewer it's definitely on the level of a £15000/£20000 watch 👌🏻👌🏻
Thanks for bringing us that piece Bruce! I have it on my list of watches to consider for future purchase. I've owned the GS Divers in past (229/231 and 461/463 series), both the titanium and the steel. The dial on this watch is a big improvement in overall visual appeal. GS excels in dials and movements, no question. They should keep playing to those strengths. However, there is something about the bezel that just doesn't quite complete the picture. Maybe the font or the overall busy look of the 60 minutes markers. It just seems incongruent with the upscale dial and case. On the bracelet front (not a Seiko strength by any means), they do seem to be at least moving in the right direction. That clasp though! Honestly, what are they thinking!? It is like strapping a box of tic-tacs to the underside of your wrist. It is much too thick for any kind of desk work. As Bruce mentions, GS is moving these watches away from the realm of actual tool watch. That clasp is ONLY suitable for tool watch work. It is great from a functional standpoint, but so not befitting a watch in this price point. That you can see the stamped portion if using the extension system at all is truly a sin. The biggest sin is that Seiko has proven they are capable of creating a great micro-adjust clasp. I've owned the Seiko titanium GMT's and those bracelets come with an amazing clasp with push-button micro-adjust. You cannot beat on-wrist adjustment and these clasps are excellent. Second only to my DSSD for usability. Anyway, I'm sure I'm not saying anything that most people familiar with the brand haven't already thought. Overall I like the watch. I might consider owning it if I can figure out a clasp retrofit or find something to replace the bracelet altogether. Do I think it is worth the nearly 2x price from some of the earlier divers, no. I would be looking for a great deal in the secondary market if I did buy this watch down the road. The finishing might surpass Rolex and other Swiss luxury brands, but it just doesn't have the brand cachet yet. Part of why people are okay to pay 5-figures for a watch like Rolex is they know that, if history is any guide, that they will preserve their investment over time. Not so with GS at this point.
Which seiko titanium gmt have push button micro-adjust? Curious to see how seiko handles it. My iwc has a great push button on the fly adjust. Fairly thin also
@@clifflin I had a SNR049/SBDB041. I think all of the watches in that family have the same clasp. SNR033/ SBDB031, as well as SNR051. There are a few others as well. It was a 3 position adjust run off the release triggers for the clasp. Take a look, I believe Bruce actually did a great review of the SNR051 a while back. I've heard of the IWC system, but haven't seen it in person. It sounds like a winner as well.
This is a stunning piece. However, I’m still trying to understand why GS can’t also make a Spring Drive diver in a 40mm case. Clearly, a 40mm diameter is possible with Spring Drive, as there are dozens of examples in their catalog. GS has the potential to take their tool watch collection to new heights, but seems stuck in the bigger is better mentality, when many people (regardless of wrist size) want a more subtle, less brick-like, presence on wrist.
I just tried this on at the GS boutique in SOHO. It is large. I have an 8” wrist and it looked large on me. That said, it has great presence. The dial and the the sweep on the second hand are simply awesome. The bracelet is not the negative people are making it out to be. The titanium is light and works beautifully for a watch this size.
Even a 42mm case would be an improvement as long as its really 42mm. I've had a look at this in the boutique and compared it to my mm300. All the tricks that seiko used to employ to make bigger watches wearable went out the window with the GS divers. 23mm lugwidth, big dials, big cases...it wears/looks it's size on wrist. There is a huge difference in visual size perception between a mm300 and this one due to these factors. That was always the case with GS divers, but with this one even more so.
This is the first GS dial where the pwr reserve doesn’t bother me as it fades into the background to my eyes. I’m with you on every other GS though. I would prefer no date or date at 6
You did a good job on this video. I want to want to buy this watch, but at this high price I haven’t been able to pull the trigger. If it was $8k, I would have ordered one already, but priced higher than a Submariner is tough for me. The words you used to describe this watch is exactly how i feel about it too, thank you
Amazing Bruce, so jealous right now lol. Absolutely gorgeous piece......maybe someday. Really wish they'd redesign the clasp, that's my only complaint on the spring drive diver models.
Bruce, great video. Beautiful watch but another massive disappointment dimension-wise. They need to downsize these divers to gain mass appeal - 40-41mm case with 13mm height and up to 48-50mm lug-lug length. This appeals to the large wrist club, and that's a shame for those with normal or even smaller wrists.
Beautiful watch but am I alone in thinking that maybe grandseiko have too many variants/options? I could be totally wrong or watch too much GS reviews but it seems a constant flow of releases to the point they don't feel special or exclusive. Less might be more.
please tell Grand Seiko to make a movement that supports the outsized big date feature, then also tell them to take a common lug width, for example 20 or 22 mm, then also tell them to use a quick release to make it easier to change bracelet or strap
Good vid, Bruce. Yes, I agree. This is GS's Fifty Fathoms (and they'll no doubt launch a Hi-Beat one). Large, beautifully finished and absolutely designed to be a true luxury dive watch first and foremost. One of only 3 top tier luxury serious dive watches (Bp, GO and this). As such, it has the most functional dive bracelet ever made (independent micro adjust for fit and quick adjust for comfort/diving). Not all dive watches should be 40mm daily diver Rolex clones. Want that, there is always the ultimate of that genre - the Sub.
Lovely watch and GS make amazing watches. I have the older SBGA229 diver which is amazing apart from the over large ugly clasp. If GS copied something like the Rolex glide lock system to get a clasp half the size they would make the best mid-tier luxury dive watches hands down. But they don’t and this watch suffers like mine of beautiful watch, great bracelet but ridiculous clasp. Such a shame as this watch so could have been a 10/10….
The dial, the movement, and the finishing are gorgeous as expected. However, the bracelet looks cheap and out of proportion with respect to the case. The watch is extremely chunky to be just 200MWR. It is a nice watch, but not $12K nice 🙂. It will be around $6K-$7K in the pre-owned market
This to me is the best GS diver I’ve ever seen. It’s finally starting to have its own identity.

That's a beautiful piece. I love my SPGE253 spring drive GMT and am saving up for the Tentagraph chronograph for my next piece.

I sold both of my GS sbgn005 and sbge255 coz of poor bracelet and clasp

Love the eclectic mix of brands and pieces you review
Keep it up
I've read somewhere that seiko bezels are a lot softer in clicks due to using a gasket on the underside of the bezel.
what is that other seiko with the power reserve that was next to it

Love the dial!
Hello from New Jersey. Once again, Bruce delivers the goods. Love that Seiko, just wish it didn't have the power reserve on the dial.
This is the first GS dial where the pwr reserve doesn’t bother me as it fades into the background to my eyes. I’m with you on every other GS though. I would prefer no date or date at 6

I prefer the 4oclock crown on the LX SEIKO spring drive divers
True. There is a nice GS Quartz GMT watch with the crown at 4 o'clock. I have it in my collection. Love it!
Which model is the black one on the left?
Amazing Bruce, so jealous right now lol. Absolutely gorgeous piece......maybe someday. Really wish they'd redesign the clasp, that's my only complaint on the spring drive diver models.
Hey Bruce, where did you get the 44.1mm diameter measurement from? Across the case from 8-2?
They could do better with the clasp, for a 12000 dollar watch
That alone would keep me from ever buying any grand Seiko that has a stamped clasp. Way too much money for that nonsense.
The clasp is made out of high-end proprietary titanium. 🤷♂ It is very functional and easy to use.
I think it's just laziness from GS. They could and should have re-design the bracelet years ago.
Clasp is way too thick...
Some people love these clasps

Hey Bruce. It’s beautiful, but too big (for me) and too expensive (for me). But I would love to see it in person.

What's your wrist size, sir?

Why are the straps lagging behind? He knows what he is talking about. Will stainless steel be available?
fuck man I really like this piece but it is so expensive. And I know its a diver but I would love to see a clear case back on this watch.
I have seen this in person. The dial as expected is awesome. The 3D textured blue is amazing. But too big and the clasp is still not right.
I can't believe he said satisfying 3 times
GS is all dial and movement, the rest seems unrefined for the price
Omega Planet Ocean is reel Diver 600meters waterresistant. In oposit to this beautiful GS only 200meters. Swisschris
There was the GS SLGA001 600m Diver
If you had to choose 1 dive watch in your collection and it was between this and blancpain you showed in the video
Which would you go for?
Having looked at both,…I would go for the GS. The dial and second hand movement/sweep are simply awesome.

wtf is that second hand lume? why is it like that? lmao
GO ad Blancpain every day over the GS!
Lume pip on the opposite side of the seconds hand is weird
Man, GS does so many things right, but they’re so stubborn to improve on the little things.
Prefer the seiko lx 5 day instead
Change your wrist checks. I automatically skip your wrist checks now, cause I assume you wear it. Rightfully so. But still.
I gotta point it out. Does this have a misaligned bezel??
Unfortunately GS have gone completely crazy with their prices. It’s a 5000 dollars watch.😤
This is not a $5,000 watch. It is priced correctly. If you are thinking $5,000, take a look at the Tudor Pelagos.
For the price they are charging for this watch that bracelet and clasp is unexcusable.
True diver watch will be Seiko Tuna series, not this. $11K is way over priced.
Lovely watch and GS make amazing watches. I have the older SBGA229 diver which is amazing apart from the over large ugly clasp. That bracelet is horrible for that price ...
It’s nice enough but I wouldn’t buy one. I’m not a fan of the bracelet or the hands and looks like a homage piece. There’s nothing unique about it
The waves on the dial are beautiful to look at on a sunny day
too thick
Thank you but for me a quartz on a watch is not a mecanic caliber.......and for this price i can buy a real luxury watch and not a seiko like this.
Grand Seiko is no longer affiliated with Seiko as of 2017
