*Works so well **Fastly.Cool** that it only requires daytime operation until high temp and humidity are overnight. It is difficult to get to side filters, but back is easily accessible.*

I have the Maxxair fan in my van and have been using it daily now for just over 2 years and love it. I got the model with the remote and the thermostat is adjustable. I leave mine set at about 90 degrees and it's wonderful. Running the thing 24 hours a day and it doesn't even use enough power to notice any drain from the battery bank.
One of the most over looked features is the difference like you pointed out with the Fanatasic fan only having a single lifting/support arm and the Maxxair having two of them. The fans with a single arm are famous for their top cover lids breaking lose and flying away on the highway because someone forgot to close the vent when driving. The maxair doesn't have that issue and can remain open and running while driving. Also another feature I don't know if you mentioned is that the Maxxair fan can be run with the top lid closed all the way and used like a ceiling fan. This is useful if you are running an AC to help circulate the air around the interior of the vehicle for more even cold air distribution.

Great response, I was going to ask if the fan still worked when closed.. when it’s closed does it still let outside air in? Or does it seem to seal up the gap so then the fan just moves the inside air around? One of my next purchases so thx in advance for your input!! ✌️

Maxxair fan thermostat is actually adjustable. You have to press the temp button like 3 times and it beeps I think and after that you use + and - buttons to adjust the temp. Or something like that. Love you :)

I think the important thing is the rain cover vs rain detector. Both fans are great and the FF has the biggest mindshare. When I spent my money I went Maxxfan for the sleek rain cover.

When I converted my U-Haul truck for full-time living (tour video on my channel), I opted for the MaxxAir fan as it seemed to have better reviews than the Fantastic fan. I am also in the Portland area if you ever want to meet up, Jed. I live in my conversion with my dog and cat.

Great comparison. Wish I would have been able to see this a month or two ago. As I installed the Fan-tastic Fan (3-speed, 2 direction, thermostat) and also installed the big cover. Which brought my cost to $250. (before install kit and install supplies) The cover is kinda gaudy big. :-(
Max air has a more comfortable noise factor it seems also.

To get the fantastic fan to blow rather than suck all you need do is reverse the polarity of the input power leads. I made a custom switch to do this with mine... works great and didn't cost me anything extra. :-)

That is exactly what I found comparing the fantastic to Max- while there are more speeds on the Max, you end up running it up 2-3 to move the same air as the Fantastic so extra speeds are irrelevant IMO. My fantastic has the rain sensor and the rain cover too so it does what the max does.

I want to share my review of the Fantastic Vent 3350 because my experience with the fan is anything but fantastic. I bought mine 18 months ago, as friends, who have an older model, said it was very good.
However mine makes a lot of noise and pushes so little air that I can barely tell if I have it set to exhaust or blow. If I turn it up to get more airflow it becomes even noiser!
The rain sensor closes the vent at night so I can only assume that it senses the night time moisture and closes even though it is NOT raining.
My friend's older model seems to push more air than my newer model.
I get much better & quieter airflow from my little Sirocco fan and it was only $!60 not over $600.
Dometic agreed to replace the fan and the airflow improved a little but it is still very noisy AND the rain sensor closes the fan at really odd times like late afternoon. So we can't use the fan unless we manually open the cover.
So in summary, I have found it an appallingly poor performing fan that is just not worth the money.

  • @ssbbmoto

The fantastic fan is my first roof vent installed in my first van that I live in full time for about 7 months now and my main complaint is the low speed isn't low enough, i like to have the fan on all the time but don't always want to listen to it and when its cold here in the Pacific NW my heater can't keep up with the amount of air it moves even on the lowest setting so i have to constantly turn the fan on and off to allow heat to build. Its better if I close every window but that adds resistance since the fan is trying to pull out air with very little able to come in so its much louder and that's annoying. Oh and it sucks in the rain, i have been soaked a few times because my hammock is positioned under the fan and if it wasn't raining when i went to bed and then starts raining I get a rude awakening. Im thinking i will swap it for a maxxair with a remote because thats a feature i didn't think i needed until i had to live with it everyday.
    Thanks for the video.

Just think, if the fans were bigger they'd be quieter and push more air through. But you don't want a larger hole in your roof.Maybe clever design could solve these problems. Great review.

AUTO: Auto Mode allows the thermostat to turn the fan ON and OFF depending on the
thermostat setting. Press this key once for less than three (3) seconds to enter Auto Mode,
three (3) quick beeps will confirm the MAXXFAN has entered Auto Mode. To EXIT Auto
Mode, press the ON/OFF key. Initial factory set point for the thermostat is 78°F/25°C. The green LED
will light to indicate the MAXXFAN is in Auto Mode. To adjust, follow instructions below:
If no previous thermostat temperature was entered, or you wish to change a previous set temperature,
press the HOLD TO SET key for more than 3 seconds and you will hear one long beep and the
thermostat will be reset to 78°F. To further adjust the set temperature, if desired, use the (+) or (-) Arrow
keys to adjust at 1° increments per press. The fan will emit a beeping sound to confirm this setting. If
a previous thermostat temperature was entered, the fan will remember this temperature setting and the
next time you enter Auto Mode, the fan will start ventilating automatically as directed by the thermostat.
The fan speed will automatically adjust based on the cabin temperature. As cabin temperature rises,
the fan increases in speed. Note: If 12 volt RV power is removed from the MAXXFAN, the thermostat
    will be reset to 78°F/25°C.

Everything you said was totally informative.
I will be getting the Maxxair now. Just started looking for the roof vent/fan option for my rig. So, unlike others, I don’t have any regrets after watching the vid.
You, again mention the two fan approach which is totally important. Because if that needs to be factored into the build, placement considerations can be made now, for the first Maxxair if people can’t buy them both at the same time.
I’m curious, if two fans are to be used to coordinate the flow, is there a way to get maybe one good delux model, and get a so so model as the 2nd unit to balance the air flow only.
If so, where would the better, fancy model go front, back? And why not next to each other not on top of each other, but side by side like a foot between or so.
That way, the regions on the roof (3 main regions - front, middle and rear), can be properly assigned air flow accessories.
Right now think I like fan No. 1 in center front region, an AC unit in the middle region and the rear region could be used for fan 2.
Any thoughts you have on the placement issue please share, or even discuss your findings in another video.
    Thanks!

What do you recommend battery capacity if want to run my fan on a warm night? Also running a small 12v fridge and a few led puck lights? 100ah? 200ah?
I wont be full timing it, but for weekend camping...I just want enough juice to power the essentials.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Looking at those fans it would not be that much harder to make a bigger hole in the roof and make a custom pop top or higher roof. $200 is not a lot if they don't break. Otherwise you could make your own with computer or 12V fans.

My motorhome didn't come with a fan, so I don't have wiring. Can I use the interior ceiling light's wires (splice) for BOTH the new fan while keeping the interior lights? Or is that overloading the wires which was meant only for the lights?

Fortunate Travel Adventures all you need is a grinder and a caulk gun from the looks of it. i bet you could pick it up at an RV store
