This is so helpful because frontside cutbacks are the coolest looking turns but are definitely the most difficult to learn

Good content as always brother 🤙🏾great pointers 🙏🏽 I personally think forehand top turns are way harder than anyone gives credit for. There's also very little good quality/detailed videos out there on how to do more vertical off the lip forehand top turns. Its way harder than it looks, with the timing of the rotation/arm/head movement etc. I always feel it's super hard generally as the wave is all behind you when you're at the top. Would be so stoked if you did a breakdown video on this topic 🙏🏽🙏🏽🤙🏾🤙🏾 loved your latest board test series brah

This was great, I think a lot of intermediate surfers struggle to understand why they're coming off on their top turns and this video exposes the reasons clearly.
Additionally I think it's worth mentioning how important back foot placement is; usually I'm surfing an MR style twin fin, but when I switch to a 5-fin board where the fin placement is more ideally suited to a thruster I often run into this problem as my back foot is not far back enough.

7:38 dude should probably also try to scoot back foot all the way back to get even more pivot and projection

agree, was about to comment that it looks like the students don't have their back foot all the way back in the sweet spot

What do you mean by extending as mentioned in around the 8min mark? Great advice by the way! Really helpful for me to realize my own mistakes :)

Super helpful! Right now I’m struggling with learning how to know when to compress vs. extend. I feel like I’m always more extended than I should be...

When you do a bottom turn, is your weight meant to be on both feet evenly? or more on the front?

The catch surf 6’0 log offers the amount of liters I need as a beginner, but there are other boards that also offer the liters I need but are just longer and bigger, do you recommend to get the shorter board or the bigger board for me to progress even tho they are the same amount of liters?

Short is less stable, needs more rail to get speed

That’s actually what I’ve been trying to improve. I keep noticing in videos that I throw head head and shoulders too early. They’ll usually start to open and whip around before I finish my bottom turn. It’s weird because it feels like my body is in sync. Do you have any tips for this?
edit: okay after watching I'm almost positive I need to do this right here 7:45 I'm extending during bottom turns way too early instead of holding that power until the last moment
