Rising temperature has led to longer droughts and almost 1,856 water sources in Bhutan are drying up. Even hydropower, one of the main income generators for Bhutan, is affected by the drop in water flow during the winter.
Bhutan’s National Adaptation Plan has identified several adaptation measures to strengthen its water sector, including natural infiltration and water buffering measures, protecting watersheds, restoring wetlands and planting more trees to improve flood risk management strategies.
