Skenes only thru 97 pitches yesterday. I can't wait to see him throw a complete game. He doesn't waste many pitches, and a lot of the called balls are really questionable.
Ninja and Will, you gotta update your comments on Lopez. He said "I was looking like the worst teammate in the whole MLB", not on the worst team. A lot of people misconstrued his comment in this way due to his accent, but he clarified later.
It's crazy how they didn't have a translator for him and surprise surprise they completely misinterpreted what he said. Also dealing with his son being extremely sick and waiting for a transplant. Sometimes it's hard to see the person behind the uniform.
Skubal, Skenes and Gil 🤯 I’d take them to war right now against any team in a 3 game series. Just the 4 of us fielding and hitting ball wouldn’t leave the infield we’d bunt for the 1-0 😂 great video this 🥷🏼🙏🏼
@@PitchingNinjaVideos so many good rotations, relievers, closers and you rarely miss any and if you do they get there props and love it. Great channel man really quality stuff clearly hard work paying off well done 💪🏼 to all involved
We are all in agreement that skenes will likely need a surgery within 5 seasons, right? Young guy throwing 101 for 5+ innings, combined with lots of horizontal break… his lasting career would be more impressive than ANY acheivement this season.
He’s a big enough body hopefully he lasts a while. We’ve seen Randy Johnson do similar things for a long time with a much thinner frame. Not as fast no but I’d argue that Johnson has some of the nastiest movement on his fastballs ever. So I think in this case we can be hopeful. And even if he will ALWAYS have a career as a absolute shut down bullpen arm. That’s a pretty good worst case scenario if you ask me
We debated that (That's what I initially thought) but if you look further it seems that he actually confirmed he said team. Gelbs gave him a chance to clarify.
Every time there's a title like this I think it's an actual video on that topic. He had a chance to clarify it and apparently repeated it according to Steve Gelbs (we edited out me saying that he was misunderstood, after reading that confirmation from other Mets journalists), but I do also agree he deserves forgiveness because of both the language barrier and his son his dealing with health issues. What are your thoughts on players like Shota and Yamamoto being eligible for Rookie of the Year despite their years of experience in the NPB? It's always been an interesting discussion, because sure they are rookies in the MLB - but they have far more experience and are much more developed than rookies who came up through the minors - Skenes, Jones, Miller, Gil, etc.
Yep--it's tough. I get the categorization. And Yamamoto is pretty much the age of a lot of rookies (he's only 25, despite being one of the most decorated pitchers in NPB history). But they're definitely not "rookies" in a traditional sense that they played at the highest level of baseball in their country. I don't like that it, by the name, almost demeans the quality of play in NPB in some people's minds...but clearly that's not the intention. It's more like a newcomer award. I do think of Skenes, Jones, Miller, Gil, etc as more true rookies in my mind, if not in terms of the award. On the flip side, Yamamoto and Imanaga do face a lot of adjustments coming over to MLB, so I get it. I could argue it either way. LOL. I'm a lawyer, it's what I do.
Of course the rookies are doing well. They haven't thrown enough MLB yet to work themselves to TJ's. Which a majority of pitchers are doing in recent years.
Gil doing this coming off of TJS and almost being the odd man out in Spring Training is just insane
