It's fascinating to watch the non-verbal communication between Reddy and the baby-snatcher. You can almost read Reddy's mind as she is saying "I know who you are and I know what you do, so stay away from my baby, bitch".. it's remarkable how the facial expressions tell all. As for the weaning process, some mothers are still nursing at 24 to 30 months and the child is sometimes bigger than the mother. I find that weaning babies at 3-4 months is way to early, however I guess these mothers know what they are doing. Thanks Arroz.
That was the ABSOLUTELY cutest micro tantrum I have ever seen! Reddy isn't too soft. She loves him! The other moms are annoyed at full time nursing, Reddy loves it! One day he will be too busy with his life, and she knows it, if he lives. The time nursing is so small in the big picture. One day you look around and they're gone. You nurse him for as long as you both want, just don't get creepy about it. I'm starting to get a little concerned at the length of that left nipple, he seems to be purposely stretching it! One day he will have his own place with this 25ft long nipple coming from another tree, lol.

LOL anyway back to my question....I have been educated and watched through all your videos and educational thumbnails that NORM a napper is higher ranking so the babies mom rarely will be able to do anything I have even seen them put their hands in the air as if take them take them I am not stopping you as they grimace then follow begging for it back, yet Reddy CLEARLY challenges this napper numerous times with body posture, eyes and grunts yet she never looks around for retaliation from others AND I noticed the napper does not flinch or flee at Reddy"s CLEAR show of anger, confrontations and even a turn around last threat. Unlike LTMs, " kidnapping " according to the literature is rarely seen with rhesus macaques ( but nowadays I doubt that too because our knowledge is based on observations from a few well-studied troops both in the wild and in captivity - hence they probably shouldn't be extrapolated to be applicable with troops from other locales ) but we surely have seen something similar now with Dy and possibly Shary. I was surprised that I didn't see any with the batch of babies born in 2016 then suddenly it just happened out of the blue with the batch in 2017.The only substantial difference is that we have more girls this year. I'm really not sure what we witness is real kidnapping or not as the nappers seem to be just as caring ( except Dy but she was impatient with Spunky I think but she has also mellowed somewhat nowadays... ) and in the case of Aggy - I think she had not learnt the art of asking to aunt but she must have learnt it and gained the trust of Reddy as in a later video she was allowed to cuddle and groom Dopey. I think their society is lot more complex than we give credit for. It's just fun to observe them and try to find explanations for their behaviour. I don't think anyone could tell you what really is going on there......

Arroz I may get aggravated sometimes with you but I want you to know your channel has been the best about watching these little ones grow and just watching the life of these monkies. I've come across so many channels filming the death, rape, mistreatment of these little ones. An it has put so much anger in me I would probably kill them if I could get my hands on them. An I have got to brag on your channel. So far knock on wood I've not seen that type of sick shit on your channel. I do hate it when one is begging and has no food or after the food truck comes some didn't get nothing to eat. I know I've said things like give them something to eat. An I am sure you do from time to time. However I am truly grateful you don't film them being literally beaten to death and killed by others and you don't film them being raped by others or even falling from trees and laying on the ground dying or dead and having kidnappers mutilate and drag their poor little bodies and or filming the mother laying there dead. I can say I've not seen that from your videos and I want to say thank you for not showing that. The clan I am talking about it so obese it is unreal and those poor animals never have a moments peace. It constantly has cameramen chasing them, literally filming the babies being beaten till they die and will film other monkies raping the babies. Its horrific what they film. Which after I read what the local wildlife had posted that they was trying to get those cameramen shut down, it all made sense. Those cameramen are terrorizing them and that is what is causing them to be so aggressive and they are going as far as killing the mothers so a baby can be filmed struggling being raped and beaten by the older ones and they are also killing the mothers to sell the babies. I may get hateful and aggravated sometimes but it is only because I have fallen in love with these little ones. Thank you for filming what you do. Your channel is by far the best at filming these precious little angels.

If he was getting a lot of milk, he would be fatter and have better muscle tone. Some human mothers can't produce enough milk for their babies, but they can supplement. It's a double edge sword for both of them, he's nursing all the time because he's hungry, he doesn't forage because he's weak. Then she doesn't know to hold him off, or can't because she's so happy to have the little fella after losing two babies, until the good back milk comes in. Who knows? They remind me so much of human mothers and their babies.
Arroz, I need to tell you that you’re the best! You’re videos are the best. Recently I started watching a lot of videos of baby monkeys being kept as pets. Some seem to be well taken care of and others I have grave concerns about especially the tiny pocket monkeys. It sickens me nonetheless. Seeing these babies, some are only a week or 2 old and can’t even walk yet, are wearing a diaper and even clothes, drinking from a bottle etc.. one lady. Says she found her first monkey in a barn in a cage and her second one she only said it was malnourished. Honestly I didn’t see that and I watched from the very first video. I just don’t understand why they didn’t take these babies to a sanctuary, where they could grow up in their more natural habitat and hopefully get reintroduced back into the wild and maybe join another troop. Also once they get past being a baby you don’t see them anymore. I haven’t seen 1 past like a year old or maybe 1 1/2 years old. I’ve read that a lot of them are simply discarded back into the forest. I’ve also read once they reach the age of sexuality they become very aggressive and even mean. So what then? What happens to them? I feel heartsick just thinking about these things. I’ve been watching monkeys since long before it became a “thing” on RUclips. I’ve read a lot about them too. Anyway watching your videos is refreshing. It’s not always pretty but it is nature and I think they are so much better off in the wild. These pet monkeys I’ve watched are depressed little things. It’s truly heartbreaking. If you say anything, offer advise or just say how you feel you get a whole lot of backlash. Like every expert in the world comes at you. One person told me I live thousands of miles from these monkeys so what I think didn’t matter. How many people who watch these videos live right there? I think many people live in the states or other countries who watch these videos. I don’t understand how that could possibly matter. Anyway I guess I’m venting to you because you know how I’m feeling. You’re videos and narration tells me so. Keep up the good work. Watching your videos is a stress reliever to me and I always look forward to watching.
Reddy is such a good mom. I've seen Monkeys basically hand their babies over to the baby nappers and then groom them as they've got their baby. The whole act of monkeys kidnapping other's babies is fascinating to me. I don't understand the concept. Some people say that they're really just babysitting the babies and not really wishing them harm, but I've seen some nappers hold newborns hostage until they die of starvation. I see some moms, like Reddy, stare them down and refuse to give their babies up and will fight for their littles. And then there are some who cower beneath the napper. And I know some has to do with their troupes social hierarchy status. But otherwise, it's a mystery to me.
do you know what other episodes the kidnapper appears in? I really would love to see the day that the moms break rank and gather up and destroy one (the dangerous ones anyway). I have only watched the long tails and they are violent, but I have read the other species are not as dangerous

After reading your question, I watched the video again (and again) and came to the conclusion that it was a gentle way to get Dopey to let go of her poor left nipple. When he was held in odd positions, it was impossible for Dopey to grasp Reddy's left nipple, without necessarily stopping Dopey's nursing. What a great MOM.

Heather Hart hello Heather, I personally don't think Baty is weaned 100% at 4 months. I think Arroz just happened to be filming at a time when mom didn't want him nursing for whatever reason. I think that Baty's mom is still nursing him or he would be in serious health decline. He looks like a healthy energetic baby monkey to me. I'm sure she nursed him at night especially when they all hunker down in the trees & sleep. Batys mom seems to not like to have her babies on her nipple all day & that's ok as long as she feeds him at night. Which I believe she does. I'm sure if we could follow her around for a 24 hour period we would see that she lets Baty nurse quite a bit. I just think she was more focused on food when Arroz was shooting this video. Well you might not be totally wrong. Some people describe that grimace as defiance. (Arroz doesn't know what it means, but others familiar with it say it's defiance, though I'll accept what ever he finally figures out on it) if that is true, that she is being defiant, then yes, Miss. Snatch very well could have been laughing at her in her attempt to put her in a place. Standing up for her and her son. Their behavior/thoughts and feelings is a science but it's not a perfect science. It's all open to inturpitation as there are exceptions to all the rules. She very well could have thought, does Reddy really think she can put me in any place!? Hahaha yeah right. I'll have her son my next Tuesday! Ok so that went deeper into thought than they could go, but you understand my meaning.

Nothing wrong with that. I do it too. I'm always creating story archs for these videos. In my head. I would never use his work for my own. It's fun and it's human. We compare them to what we know. It's normal to humanize them. So long as people don't use that for their own agendas, like the crazy activists do. No matter how much we humanize them and romatisize them, they are still animals. Wild animals. So are we. Either way, videos can really really suck you in (they do that to me anyway, when I watch them it's just me and the troops) and it's fun to let your mind go with it. I believe that Arroz said that Dopey was only about 4 weeks old. I remember Arroz commenting that Reddy (not yet named) was about to give birth, about 4 or 5 weeks ago, and that was our Batty (or Baty, if you prefer.)
Baty's' mom is "Dolly" and Dopey's mom is Reddy. Or maybe I have confused myself, but believe that is correct...

Reddy is so much more loving then the other moms. I love how she cradles him to her and kisses the top of his head. She miss the only mom I've seen do anything even close to that.
Remember Reddy lost 2 other baby the last 2 consecutive years. Time may tell a sad story this next year.

Reddy is definitely one of my favorites. I can't stand the baby snatchers. I get so angry when they snatch a baby. I would end up killing or hurting myself if I was there cause I wouldn't stop till I chased it down to get the baby back.

Arroz I may get aggravated sometimes with you but I want you to know your channel has been the best about watching these little ones grow and just watching the life of these monkies. I've come across so many channels filming the death, rape, mistreatment of these little ones. An it has put so much anger in me I would probably kill them if I could get my hands on them. An I have got to brag on your channel. So far knock on wood I've not seen that type of sick shit on your channel. I do hate it when one is begging and has no food or after the food truck comes some didn't get nothing to eat. I know I've said things like give them something to eat. An I am sure you do from time to time. However I am truly grateful you don't film them being literally beaten to death and killed by others and you don't film them being raped by others or even falling from trees and laying on the ground dying or dead and having kidnappers mutilate and drag their poor little bodies and or filming the mother laying there dead. I can say I've not seen that from your videos and I want to say thank you for not showing that. The clan I am talking about it so obese it is unreal and those poor animals never have a moments peace. It constantly has cameramen chasing them, literally filming the babies being beaten till they die and will film other monkies raping the babies. Its horrific what they film. Which after I read what the local wildlife had posted that they was trying to get those cameramen shut down, it all made sense. Those cameramen are terrorizing them and that is what is causing them to be so aggressive and they are going as far as killing the mothers so a baby can be filmed struggling being raped and beaten by the older ones and they are also killing the mothers to sell the babies. I may get hateful and aggravated sometimes but it is only because I have fallen in love with these little ones. Thank you for filming what you do. Your channel is by far the best at filming these precious little angels.

If he was getting a lot of milk, he would be fatter and have better muscle tone. Some human mothers can't produce enough milk for their babies, but they can supplement. It's a double edge sword for both of them, he's nursing all the time because he's hungry, he doesn't forage because he's weak. Then she doesn't know to hold him off, or can't because she's so happy to have the little fella after losing two babies, until the good back milk comes in. Who knows? They remind me so much of human mothers and their babies.
Arroz, I need to tell you that you’re the best! You’re videos are the best. Recently I started watching a lot of videos of baby monkeys being kept as pets. Some seem to be well taken care of and others I have grave concerns about especially the tiny pocket monkeys. It sickens me nonetheless. Seeing these babies, some are only a week or 2 old and can’t even walk yet, are wearing a diaper and even clothes, drinking from a bottle etc.. one lady. Says she found her first monkey in a barn in a cage and her second one she only said it was malnourished. Honestly I didn’t see that and I watched from the very first video. I just don’t understand why they didn’t take these babies to a sanctuary, where they could grow up in their more natural habitat and hopefully get reintroduced back into the wild and maybe join another troop. Also once they get past being a baby you don’t see them anymore. I haven’t seen 1 past like a year old or maybe 1 1/2 years old. I’ve read that a lot of them are simply discarded back into the forest. I’ve also read once they reach the age of sexuality they become very aggressive and even mean. So what then? What happens to them? I feel heartsick just thinking about these things. I’ve been watching monkeys since long before it became a “thing” on RUclips. I’ve read a lot about them too. Anyway watching your videos is refreshing. It’s not always pretty but it is nature and I think they are so much better off in the wild. These pet monkeys I’ve watched are depressed little things. It’s truly heartbreaking. If you say anything, offer advise or just say how you feel you get a whole lot of backlash. Like every expert in the world comes at you. One person told me I live thousands of miles from these monkeys so what I think didn’t matter. How many people who watch these videos live right there? I think many people live in the states or other countries who watch these videos. I don’t understand how that could possibly matter. Anyway I guess I’m venting to you because you know how I’m feeling. You’re videos and narration tells me so. Keep up the good work. Watching your videos is a stress reliever to me and I always look forward to watching.

Reddy is such a good mom. I've seen Monkeys basically hand their babies over to the baby nappers and then groom them as they've got their baby. The whole act of monkeys kidnapping other's babies is fascinating to me. I don't understand the concept. Some people say that they're really just babysitting the babies and not really wishing them harm, but I've seen some nappers hold newborns hostage until they die of starvation. I see some moms, like Reddy, stare them down and refuse to give their babies up and will fight for their littles. And then there are some who cower beneath the napper. And I know some has to do with their troupes social hierarchy status. But otherwise, it's a mystery to me.
do you know what other episodes the kidnapper appears in? I really would love to see the day that the moms break rank and gather up and destroy one (the dangerous ones anyway). I have only watched the long tails and they are violent, but I have read the other species are not as dangerous
Rhesus don't normally kidnap. Aggy is just crazy with babies. Those few who actually kidnap do so coz' they been sterilised.

I have always thought that the rank and station of the individuals did not extend past the members of a particular group. After reading your question, I watched the video again (and again) and came to the conclusion that it was a gentle way to get Dopey to let go of her poor left nipple. When he was held in odd positions, it was impossible for Dopey to grasp Reddy's left nipple, without necessarily stopping Dopey's nursing. What a great MOM.

Heather Hart hello Heather, I personally don't think Baty is weaned 100% at 4 months. I think Arroz just happened to be filming at a time when mom didn't want him nursing for whatever reason. I think that Baty's mom is still nursing him or he would be in serious health decline. He looks like a healthy energetic baby monkey to me. I'm sure she nursed him at night especially when they all hunker down in the trees & sleep. Batys mom seems to not like to have her babies on her nipple all day & that's ok as long as she feeds him at night. Which I believe she does. I'm sure if we could follow her around for a 24 hour period we would see that she lets Baty nurse quite a bit. I just think she was more focused on food when Arroz was shooting this video. Reddy us a bad ass! I've always thought so and have wondered why she hides from Bossy. Maybe she doesn't realize she's a bad ass? I mean here for example, she's being groomed by three other adult females. That says something. And even then she gets up to let Dopey nurse. Too soft or just a dedicated mom? Well you might not be totally wrong. Some people describe that grimace as defiance. (Arroz doesn't know what it means, but others familiar with it say it's defiance, though I'll accept what ever he finally figures out on it) if that is true, that she is being defiant, then yes, Miss. Snatch very well could have been laughing at her in her attempt to put her in a place. Standing up for her and her son. Their behavior/thoughts and feelings is a science but it's not a perfect science. It's all open to inturpitation as there are exceptions to all the rules. She very well could have thought, does Reddy really think she can put me in any place!? Hahaha yeah right. I'll have her son my next Tuesday! Ok so that went deeper into thought than they could go, but you understand my meaning.

Nothing wrong with that. I do it too. I'm always creating story archs for these videos. In my head. I would never use his work for my own. It's fun and it's human. We compare them to what we know. It's normal to humanize them. So long as people don't use that for their own agendas, like the crazy activists do. No matter how much we humanize them and romatisize them, they are still animals. Wild animals. So are we. Either way, videos can really really suck you in (they do that to me anyway, when I watch them it's just me and the troops) and it's fun to let your mind go with it. Specially when they are filmed as well as they are.
