  • A quick dive into the lore of Urabrask, the red phyrexian praetor. For those who want the rundown on the villains of Phyrexia: All Will Be One and March of the Machine. There's an exhaustive history of the phyrexians and their plane on my channel but I'll be posting a lore short for each praetor over the coming days

    Plot Twist: Urabrask is the *biggest and most devout* believer in the perfection that is compleation, because he has so much faith in its superiority and virtue that everyone will willingly choose compleation, in time. He understands that if you have to forcefully impose compleation on others, it's an implicit admission in its shortcomings and undesirable nature.

Have him summon a legendary Urabrask token for the minus. + Is Proliferate, then shock target c,p or PW. If the creature had infect, repeat this process.

      Honestly I could see Urabrask as the one way New Phyrexia is able to live on in the event they'd be otherwise wiped out. Urabrask is still Phyrexian, but is the only major figure among them that won't force unwilling people to undergo completion, and makes this call on principle.
      It represents the one potential corner of Phyrexia that _can_ co-exist with non-Phyrexian life.

    • @remingtonluther6693
      @remingtonluther6693 Год назад +15

      @@snowboundwhale6860 true
      But also his method of improving what's great in an individual and removing flaws means there is less 'failures' as norn would put it
      From what I'm grasping norn wants everything to fit a mold
      If it doesn't fit for one reason or another it's useless and tossed aside
      Leading to alot of wasted resources
      Urabrask is a forge master
      He takes the raw material and listens to what it wants to be and he helps it achieve that
      Less material wasted meaning a stronger phyrexia
      And with it being basically a volunteer movement there is less risk of turncoats like Jace did to norn
      It's just the right way to go about it and since they are a hive mind of machines they could wait however long they need to become a multiversal super power like the eldrazi or the slivers

    Love the implication that Phyrexia, once a mindless force of assimilation and evolution, has assimilated SO MUCH sentient life that it has rapid-evolved not only strength and guile and intelligence, but also empathy and happiness. Phyrexia was so good at adapting in order to overcome that it accidentally became indistinguishable from the thing it was instinctually trying to destroy.

    • @NoFlu
      @NoFlu Год назад +4

      Even the fact that Norn is the leader now kinda underlines that, giving the nature of Phyrexia was black in the original sets and (mostly) black/green at the start of Scars of Mirrodin and white/red being the resistance colors...
      Original Phyrexia was a weird abomination which was extremly chaotic and self-destructive, safe for Yawgmoth at the very top of it.
      While the order Norn and the white faction brought to New Phyrexia, helps with the whole conquering stuff, it also betrays the old ways of Phyrexia in a sense.

    It's worth it to note that Urabrask and Sheoldred both HATE Norn for their own reasons, Vorinclex and Jin Gitaxias are both sort of neutral to her. She lets Jin Gitaxias do his experiments, so he's cool with her, while Vorinclex really couldn't care bc he's just kinda chillin with Glissa in the Hunter's Maze most of the time. I believe this current storyline is going to end not with a deus ex planeswalker, but with Urabrask turning Vorinclex against Norn by convincing him Norn's vision of perfection doesn't allow predation. Urabrask's going to win the civil war and Phyrexia will just be another world in the multiverse, a much more dangerous world, but no longer threatening invasion.

    I just knew this dude was gonna be cool inside and out and i loved how his card was objectively the worst of the others so he flew under peoples radars and when he hit the field people allowed him to sit and do his thing which usually didnt work out well for them.

    I always saw urabrask as valuing the things that make compleation special and perfect, and forcing everything to be compleat would make compleation the new normal, and thus, not special at all. Compleation, in his view, is something to be cherished among those who strive for it, not just handed out to the inferior masses. He is still evil, but in a way that conflicts with Elesh Norn's goals of compleating everything.

    Urabrask does believe that Compleation is perfection. However, he disagrees with Norn about what that perfection should look like...
    Norn believes that everyone who becomes Phyrexian should be homogenized because to her perfection has only one form and so therefore everything should look the same. Anything that doesn't meet her standards is therefore imperfect and requires Compleation at her command to perfect it. If only one thing is perfect, then to make everything perfect, all should be that one thing -- hence, All Will Be One.
    Meanwhile, Urabrask believes that powerful entities can contribute individual strengths to the glory of Phyrexia, and that there is power in creativity and innovation. He believes that Phyrexian perfection is achieved by incorporating every strength they can get their hands on and therefore will have no weaknesses because everyone will glorify Phyrexia. He also believes that Norn weakens Phyrexia with her single-minded vision.
    Norn is an Autocrat. Urabrask is a Democrat. Both want Phyrexia to be perfect. They just can't agree on how best to do it.

    • @NoFlu
      @NoFlu Год назад +1

      Also important to note is that the other Praetors have equally conflicting visions:
      Veroniclex and Jin-Gitaxian believe in opposite forms of evolution, "natural" evolution (although sped up by extreme aggressive-darwinism) and engineered evolution through science.
      I think "Thundering Tonadon"'s flavor text says it nicely "We do not need beakers and vials to test our predators".
      Phyrexia is surely gonna loose (unless WotC is doing the equivalent of a DC/Marvel universe reset by letting them win) and I hope its due to infighting (even as a Phyrexian fanboy), its what would make the most sense, since the whole alliance of the Praetors should be extremly unstable, maybe kill off (or remove for a bit) Norn and make it so Jin, Veroniclex and Sheoldred all start murdering eachother in order to gain leadership and the attack fails....

    "Do not misunderstand me human. I oppose the Tyranny of the Orthodoxy, and see value in the freedom your kind cling to so desperately, but make no mistake, the perfection of Phyrexian compleation, is indisputable. However, the process of ascension only retains it's true meaning if it is done by choice. Forcing compleation upon the other planes will only increase the desire to resist, and carry the implication that it is an undesirable fate. This approach is antithetical to the very purpose of compleation, a fact my counterparts are blind to. I will help you defeat the Mother of Machines, and all others of my kind who aid her, but understand I fight for Phyrexias survival, not its destruction. If we are victiorious, I will see that hostilities against the rest of the multiverse cease, but in return I expect my kind to be left alone to conduct the great work in peace. Compleation will never be forced on your kind by mine again, but understand should any seek us out and wish to ascend to perfection, it WILL be granted to them, regardless of any objections.
